Mai Ding: "You look so handsome, besides so many people like you, why would you be with me?" An Zhi Yan: "You look so plain, besides no one likes you, why would you not be with me?"
This is not a regular Chinese BL novel. Although the relationship between the gong and the shou "An Ziyan and Maiding" (Or An Zhi Yan and Mai Ding) is rather superficial and chaotic ... not to say "traditional" in BL books, the story development is interesting and daring.
The leading characters' personalities are distinct and memorable for sure. The naivety and the sweetness of Maiding, his optimism even in the bottom of the pit, were quite exemplary. He had a dream, a purpose in life, and aimed for it through thick and thin... From the other side there is An Ziyan, the misunderstood "young master" who has never felt loved in his life, having been neglected by his family from a young age - if not by his very understanding and "trendy" grandpa.. - he grew antisocial and unfathomable, cynic and distant until he met Maiding. When the two that everything opposed met, their conflicting universes collided and then started the long journey to love for the two young men: A bottom who wanted nothing but to love dearly and a top who didn't know what to do with that new feeling.
When the fire reaches the wick, the fireworks fly... this is to summarize Maiding and An Ziyan's quick yet temporizing combustion in the bosom of love lol
The book is very good, I think I loved the personality of its author more than the characters' themselves... we get to know an author through their book and Angelina is rather a feisty one, I like that about writers. I advise you to read this story before watching the drama otherwise its beauty will pass you by.
As the adage goes, "You have to be cruel to be kind." It seems to be the moral of the story!
I absolutely hate this goddamn story. I read over 90% of it, and I got mad enough to almost quit several times but this is it, I've really had it. The poor main character gets treated like crap by his "true love" and all their friends over and over and over and over again. And each time it's played for laughs, even though it includes tricking him several times into believing that his boyfriend is leaving him, constantly calling him stupid, kidnapping him, and the worst one, the boyfriend not showing up to their wedding and tricking him into believing that he cheated on him on the night before their wedding. Also he's sexually assaulted several times by women and it's played for laughs, and he has to interact socially with one of the girls who tried to rape him. I kept trying to read it because there would be sections where they would get along well and be happy etc, but I swear this is an abusive codependent relationship and I couldn't bear to keep reading it. We hear a lot about how their love is beautiful and perfect and great, but it's barely shown in their actions, and I didn't even think that An Ziyan cared for him at all until fairly far into the story. Would not recommend and I wish I could take back the time I spent reading it.
This book is SO funny and adorable, An Ziyan's love for Mai Ding is unconditional and vice versa, even if they don't have the same love language they are the perfect match for each other. I'm not a big fan of pranks and i think it was really unnecessary during some scenes but this story is still one of my all time fav.
