Romantic Comedy Duo #2

Caught in the Act

Rate this book
Caught in the Act is a zany, surprisingly sophisticated screwball comedy reminiscent of the 1930s Hepburn movies.” — Harriet Klausner When I unexpectedly catch Chrissie, a teenage thief, in the act of stealing my mother’s jewels, I let her go because...why not? She needs the money more than we do, and it’s our fault her family’s in a bind. But when her honest, upright older sister Nicole shows up to stop the robbery, Chrissie is already gone, and Nicole berates me for setting a horrible example for the teenager. Well, crap. How can I get this gorgeous woman on my good side? I can’t believe this outrageous guy allowed my little sister to get away with grand theft. I want to talk Chrissie into giving the gems back, but it’s too late--she’s already sold them. Worse, Scott’s mother knows the jewels are fake, but she plans to collect the insurance money anyway. How are we going to keep our crooked relatives from being arrested? Somehow, this witty, wacky, whimsical man convinces me to steal the fake gems back. But how can we, without getting Caught in the Act ourselves?A steamy, hilarious opposites attract romantic comedy with a straitlaced heroine who has worked hard all her life and a wealthy capricious hero who seems to work hard at nothing at all. Get caught up in Caught in the Act today! (This is a follow-on to My Favorite Husband, but can be read as a standalone.)

I've been a reader all my life, starting out with fairy tales and graduating to reading everything in the house when I grew older, including my parents' romances, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and action/adventure.

If a writer can combine romance and humor with a fantasy, science fiction, or paranormal element, I'm hooked. Add action/adventure, and it's even better!

Since I couldn't find quite enough books that combine these elements, I sat down to write some of my own. The result is the books you'll see on my website.

I now live in Colorado with my three dogs: Mo, Daisy and Trixie.

Pseudonyms: Pamela Luzier (Fantasy genre) and Parker Blue (Young Adult urban fantasy genre).

Caught in the Act is a cute novel by Pam McCutcheon. It is a hilarious story about real and fake jewels and trying to replace them before the insurance company finds them.
Scott Richmond heard something as he entered the mansion where he lived. As he investigated the source of the noise, he found a young girl stealing his Mother’s jewels. Thinking to teach the young girl a lesson, he helps her by adding some outlandish items to her bad and she leaves. First, he found out she was taking the jewels as payment for his family’s firing her Father for nothing and leaving them broke. She needs the money to pay tuition for Julliard so she can continue there. As he is contemplating his revenge the next day, the doorbell rings and he finds Nicole Dreyfuss, the young girl’s older sister, at his door. She is looking for Chrissie to stop her from stealing but it is too late. Scott explains his solution as they wait for morning.
The next day, he finds Chrissie has already sold the jewels and refuses to tell who she sold them to but leaves hints it is three friends of his Mother’s. Then he finds his Mother is going to call the insurance company about her jewels but when they look in her safe’s, he realizes she has the real jewels. If the insurance company finds she has the real ones, she will be arrested for fraud. There is nothing left to do but exchange the jewels. He and Nicole set out to do just that.

I read this because I enjoyed My Favorite Husband, but I did not like this one as much. Scott is funny, but I did not enjoy the heroine at all. It seemed loosely based on How to Steal a Million, but wasn't nearly as entertaining.
