I was incredibly lucky to receive an ARC of Angel's Song from the author. This is a wonderful continuation of Christine and Erik's story. And not to mention all the drama going on back at the opera house. What a tangled web! If I could give this book 6 stars I would. It is so wonderful to see my comfort couple really settling into their new home and finding their place in the community. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give anything away but I loved this book! (I will say though that I think they may need to kill Raoul in book six and if they do I won't be mad at it)

Thank you so much, Jessica for an ARC copy of this book! I love this series so much and am thrilled to be back in Erik and Christine's world. As always, the story is gripping, well researched and brings so much depth to the characters. Both Erik and Christine have both changed so much since the first book and seeing them in their new home was a joy. Of course things are never as simple as they might seem and I am looking forward to the next book although not looking forward to the fact that it is the conclusion to the story! I will miss all these characters so much!

ARC Review | Spoiler Alert

I picked up the first four novels, along with the novella, in this series purely out of love for The Phantom of the Opera. The moment I realized it was a retelling, I was immediately invested. So, when I had the opportunity to read the fifth installment as an ARC, I was over the moon.

Now, with that in mind, it’s worth noting that while I really enjoyed the first few books in this series, my interest had slowly started to decline—and unfortunately, this installment continued that trend.

As the series has progressed, it has become less of a retelling and more of an original story. There are plenty of new characters, new plotlines, and lots of LGBTQIA+ representation, while only retaining some of the original elements. That’s not a bad thing at all! It just becomes less of the story I originally came for. I do have to admire the author for the many ode’s to the original novel in her work. Those little moments felt like a reconnection.

Furthermore, there are definitely highlights in this book. Our main antagonist, Raoul, becomes even more of the obsessive, unhinged ex that has been building throughout the previous four novels. There is one scene in particular where he compares his current bed companion to our lovely FMC, Christine. Chills. It was genuinely disturbing in the best way. Another standout was the pregnancy plotline. After it becoming such a major discussion throughout the previous books, it was exciting to finally see not only the idea itself, but everyone’s reactions to it, especially Erik’s. My poor baby has been through so much 🥺

While I’ve genuinely enjoyed this series, I found myself having to push through parts of this book. Any chapter that wasn’t from one of our main characters’ perspectives left me feeling a little bored—especially because the scenes between Erik and Christine are so addictive. (And yes… the spice absolutely delivered. Wink, wink.) The additional POVs often felt repetitive, almost as though they existed to maintain the structure of previous books rather than because they were essential to this story.

Overall, I liked it—I just wanted… more. I’m really hoping the final installment gives this series the ending it’s building toward.

In the foreword of Angel’s Song, Jessica Masson wrote, “Songs are hope. They come out of nothing and offer joy and consolation and meaning in a wild, weary world. They find us when we most need them, whispering wisdom and urging us on. Not unlike a ghost. Or an angel.” For me, this is an apt description of the Phantom Saga. Jessia Mason does such an amazing job at being consistent with her characters, that when I pick up her newest book, it feels like reuniting with old friends. Her books are a comfort that I value in my life. I adore the beautiful way she writes. I feel anyone who is a phan of the Phantom of the Opera or of devoted marriages, this is for you.

Every character was left on a cliffhanger for the finale. I really got a sense of Christine and Erik finally being happy and setting up roots in a world that is hellbent on destroying them. And they are unaware of the sharks that are coming to eat them. It makes me excited and sad to see how this all ends.

I have loved The Phantom Saga from the very beginning and, without giving away any spoilers, I was truly happy to see Erik and Christine grow and change so profoundly throughout the series. Jessica managed to take a story that is more than a century old and transform it into something entirely of her own, while always remaining faithful to the heart of the story.

One of the things I loved most about The Phantom Saga was watching Erik and Christine’s journey intertwine with the stories of so many other characters, who become more important than ever in this book.

Thank you, Jessica, for The Phantom Saga. Thank you for filling this book with hope. I would recommend Angel’s Song to anyone, and to everyone who picks it up, I hope this book will inspire you to be brave enough to sing.

I am such a fan of this series, and this book was no exception. It was wonderful to be with these characters again, and I didn’t want it to end! I love this version of Erik and Christine, and I also love the supporting characters! Their stories are coming together, and while I won’t be ready for the series to end, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
