Genuinely cannot tell who this was written for. Are these the bitter ex Mormons I keep hearing about? As someone who left the church years ago and critiques its leadership frequently, the entire book felt like it was intended to win favor with those who want to mock Mormon culture despite having no experience with it. A clownish caricature of a Mormon woman that looks nothing like the women I still very much love and respect. Making me defend Mormons on Goodreads? Count your days, Olive Young.

I’m going to try and fail to write a coherent review about this mess. This was a tough read. I left the church years ago, but this was lowkey offensive lol. This book felt more like it just wanted to bully and mock the people in the church, instead of saying anything about the church itself.
Darcy, I think, was supposed to come off as a sweet and naive girl with a strong testimony, but instead came off as self centered and, quite frankly, stupid. There were no real stakes because I don’t think even she knows how she feels about the church, she was so easily dickmatized to throw it all away lol. (But not really cause they still get married in the temple, HEATHENS)
Don’t even get me started on the third act miscommunication. That was the most ridiculously manufactured miscommunication I have ever read. I actually screamed.
For any non Utah natives, please, we do not celebrate Pioneer Day like this. We only do the wildly emotionally manipulative trek across the desert ONCE as teenagers, okay?
Anyway, can’t tell if Olive ever actually was a Mormon or not. She simultaneously knew too much and nothing at all.

I stumbled across this book online and decided to read it as a joke, and then somehow “I’m just going to read for five minutes” turned into devouring it in one sitting! A delightfully fun and absolutely hilarious read.

Full disclosure: Missionary Position is definitely not a book for everyone. I went into it a little hesitant, but I ended up absolutely loving it.
At its core, this is a rivals-to-lovers romance set in incredibly unique—and undeniably forbidden—circumstances. While miscommunication plays a role, what stood out to me most was how authentic and deeply human the characters felt.
Darcy's character growth was especially compelling. Watching her realize that life isn't always black and white, and that people have different experiences, beliefs, and needs, made her journey feel genuine and thought-provoking.
Despite being a work of fiction, the emotions and relationships felt surprisingly real. This is a story that challenges perspectives while delivering an unforgettable forbidden romance.
If you're looking for a romance that pushes boundaries, sparks conversation, and isn't afraid to explore complicated emotions, Missionary Position is well worth picking up.

I really wanted a quote that was completely out of context. Honestly I was really expecting to hate this book, but it was perfect. As an ex Mormon this story really hit the nail on the head. I never served a mission but many of my friends and my spouse did. These two had me cracking up with their fumbling and general awkwardness.
My girl Darcy came very far, I knew I was going to hate her in the beginning, and I did, but she actually came pretty far in a short period of time. I was never as devout as Darcy but the patterns of thinking were spot on for how I was several years ago. Damian was cute, very very respectful for a Mormon boy so I liked that. I really wanted more of their life after the mission, I really wanted to know what happened!!! This is a huge deal for Mormons and I really needed those details.

An excellent read
I have not read a book (with my eyes) in over a decade. It’s been 10+ years of audiobooks only, this is the first book I decided to read visually, and wow was it a feast for my eyes. I have never been LDS, but I’m in a same-sex marriage with a former member, and this book delivered just about everything someone with Mormon ties could want in a story. The characters are endearing, the pacing of the plot is perfect, the LDS references are accurate and funny, and the book is well written. I am someone who often edits books as I listen to them, and I did not do that once here. I was fully immersed in the story and invested in the HEA.
5/5 stars I will happily come back for Olive Young’s future books.

never in my life did I think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. I saw it being advertised on Threads and figured it would be fun to read as a joke. I never intended on taking it seriously and I never intended on it being one of my favorite books of the year.
I’m not Mormon, but I was raised in a very religious southern Baptist household and I saw so many similarities between the two. the growth Darcy went through over the course of the book was incredible.
I read 98% of this book in one sitting and it was amazing . Totally worth staying up until 3 am when I have work at 8 am. If Sister Clark or Elder Banes ever gets a book, I will be first in line to read it.

So I saw a thread about this book and I thought I’d read it as a joke…and it’s actually one of the better books I’ve read this year haha.
It’s a cute story that had me smiling and giggling a lot. I honestly related to Sister Brooks in the beginning with her devote spirit and attentiveness to living the gospel: at the expense of being performative and judgmental of others not living as “celestial” as you. At times, she was a little thick and I had to roll my eyes at her naivety. Overall though, I like how she chose to challenge her worldview and became a more loving disciple by not caring so much about “the rules”.
It’s a cute story that had me smiling and giggling a lot. Spice: 5/5, multiple explicit scenes
This book was funny. It was mildly relatable, especially with how much Darcy virtue signals, lol. It was a bit surface-level and unrealistic in places (like how Darcy & Damien ended up together, or how they all accepted Elder Banes' lifestyle in the end). I did like Sister Clark & Mrs. Wheatley!
One thing I did love is that, in the beginning, everything feels very superficial. This is because Darcy is a superficial person. In the end, the characters begin to gain depth, and this happens as Darcy begins to gain depth through her experiences of getting to know Damien. I think that's clever.

This is a funny look into how the strict upbringing of Mormon youth leads to surprising revelations (not the religious kind!) when a single woman missionary (Sister Brooks) is faced with a HOT single man (Elder Knight) who stirs feelings in her she's never experienced before - and shouldn't while on her proselytizing mission - leading her on a different kind of mission of romantic and sexual exploration. Funny, heartwarming, and so accurate on the Mormon/Provo mentality.
If you liked the Book of Mormon musical, you'll like this!

Cute and fun read
I read this in a few hours! It was very cute, clever, and brought back feelings of falling in love in my late teens with my now husband. All those butterflies and first times.
It obviously was a heavy on the religion but as an athiest, I appreciated her growth throughout and realizing that faith doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

this is by far one of the worst books ive ever read but i have not laughed and been this entertained in so long. i could not put it down. i will never think of YSA, robes, mumu's, or churning butter and not laugh. i cant believe this is real
