And the fastest way to destroy one of the most feared men in New York...
...is to take me first.
Wrong Number is a steamy dark Bratva romance featuring an obsessed antihero, a 35+ heroine, wrong-number texting, forced proximity, protective obsession, touch-her-and-die energy, slow-burn chemistry, and a guaranteed HEA.
Maya Wren writes dark romance featuring obsessive heroes, fearless heroines, and happily-ever-afters worth fighting for.
A lifelong lover of travel and questionable fictional decisions, she creates stories where red flags come with tattoos and a devotion that borders on obsession.
Fortunately, Maya doesn’t have to look far for inspiration. She married her own tattooed badass. They live in the Northern US with their dogs.
Wrong Number, right man? This was steamy, filled with banter, and has a FMC who refuses to back down just because it's expected. Obsession and possession are the names of the game Gav and Jane are playing and I am here for it. Now for book 2!
This was one of those books where I kept seeing it all over TikTok and finally thought, “Okay, I have to buy this book.” And I’m really glad I did!
Jane is your pretty typical, overworked, stressed-out woman with a boring office job and a lot on her plate. She’s also trying to help care for her mom, who needs to move into a care facility, and when the cost suddenly goes up, Jane starts looking for a side hustle.
Enter an ad for a job writing dirty text messages back and forth with men and getting paid for it.
First of all… if this is an actual job, I would be AMAZING at it, so somebody please tell me where to apply. 😂
Jane signs up, and everything is supposed to be anonymous. She sends her first picture—just a sexy little shot of her legs in heels—and a sassy message asking what “sir” wants her to do.
Except…she has the wrong number.
She accidentally transposed two numbers and, even worse, she didn’t send the message through the app. She sent it from her personal phone. 😳
Cue the embarrassment.
What Jane doesn’t know is that she has accidentally texted one of the heads of the Russian mafia in New York.
And honestly? The banter between these two was one of my favorite parts. Jane is incredibly sassy with a man who is very much not accustomed to people talking back to him, and that immediately catches his attention.
Things obviously escalate from there. He starts keeping tabs on her, helping with her mom, and making sure she has protection. Then there are attempts to kidnap or kill Jane, and his security team steps in before things get much worse.
Once Jane discovers who he really is, she wants absolutely nothing to do with that life. But now she has become a weakness that his enemies know they can exploit, putting both her and her mom in danger.
Eventually, they’re moved to the family estate up north, where Jane gets a much closer look at the world she accidentally stumbled into.
And I really enjoyed how much actual mafia world-building there was in this book. I feel like some mafia romances just assume you already understand how everything works—or they make up their own version of it—and I really appreciated that Maya Wren took the time to establish the hierarchy, the families, the power dynamics, and how this world operates.
There is definitely tension, violence, kidnapping, danger, and all the things I want when I pick up a mafia romance.
As I’ve found with a lot of mafia romances, the spice isn’t necessarily the highest, but I actually think that’s okay as long as you know what you’re getting into. This book was much more focused on the mafia world, the danger, the relationship, and all the turmoil that comes with being involved with a mafia boss.
I especially loved the camaraderie between Gavriil and his brothers, and I really loved Jane’s transformation throughout the story.
She starts out as this overworked, stressed, meek, mild, “go along to get along” kind of woman who constantly puts up with things just to keep the peace. Watching her become this much stronger woman who somehow feels completely at home in the underbelly of the city was SO satisfying.
And then there’s the setup for Book 2. 👀
I am HERE FOR IT.
Book two is going to be about Gavriil’s brother, Rurik, who is the oldest and the actual head of the family. The elders are getting concerned because he doesn’t have a wife or an heir, so naturally…they decide it’s time to help him find one. 😂
They literally give him a list of women to choose from at the end of the book, and Rurik is basically like, “Nope. None of these.”
So now I NEED to know what kind of woman is actually going to catch this man’s attention.
Overall, I’m really glad I picked this one up. I genuinely enjoyed it, I got sucked into the world, and I’m definitely continuing the series.
And honestly, I think knowing going into Book 2 that this is very much a mafia romance will help me set my expectations from the beginning. 😂
Now give me Rurik. I need to see who is going to be able to handle that man. 👀
3.5⭐️ This was fun! Good Bratva vibes, suspense, a strong FMC, and just enough fluff to make it an easy read. ❤️
Jane is a 36 year old corporate cubicle girl who is looking for other ways to make some extra money to help take care of her mother with dementia. She finds an app where she can “work” as a text buddy and somehow ends up texting the wrong number… I’m still not entirely sure how that happened, but okay, we’ll go with it. 🤷♀️
The text gets accidentally sent to Gav, the second heir to the Pakhan and more of a Bratva enforcer? He’s a little suspicious at first, but that quickly turns into obsession, and then he is having her followed everywhere. When her life is in danger, Gav now must keep her safe.
I really liked the suspense and the Bratva politics, and Jane is a strong sassy FMC, which I always appreciate. I wish there had been more of the brotherhood/family dynamic. That’s one of my favorite things about Bratva “brotherhood” books, and while there was definitely some of it here, I wanted more.
The story felt a little two-dimensional at times, and unfortunately, I didn’t really feel the romantic connection between Jane and Gav. The spice was also pretty low and came more toward the end, so I definitely wouldn’t pick this one if you’re looking for a super spicy romance.
Overall, though? I had a good time.
If you’re here for the vibes — the vibes are good. ❤️
MMC: Gavril Viktorov (37) FMC: Jane Fitzgerald (36) ❤️Tropes: Bratva, romantic suspense, older FMC, forced proximity, obsessive protective MMC, mild stalking 📍Setting: Manhattan 💁POV: dual, first person 🖤Darkness level: 2/5 🔥starts at 53 🌶️Spice: 2/5 📚Plot: 3.5/5 🌎World building: 3/5 ⚠️Triggers: parent with dementia, car accident, gun violence, torture, kidnapping
I accidentally stumbled across this book and I’m glad I did.
36 year old Jane is living a stressful, financially ruining life. Not only that but she is taking care of her mother who has dementia. She hates her corporate job and her small basement style apartment. Which to be fair, I get. She’s desperate and looking to make some quick money to help with the extra cost of her mother living. Just a mistype of a number is all it took. Gav is a brutal Russian man. He receives a risqué text message from an unknown number. He stalks her and protects her from a distance and even covers our mfc mother’s care. Basically he’s a big grumpy teddy bear.
I ate this book up. While it wasn’t a 5 ⭐️ read for me doesn’t mean I didn’t like it or wasn’t entertained. I just needed it to be a little darker. Like our mmc while he comes off dark he’s very vanilla if you know what I’m saying.
Either way I’m happy I accidentally stumbled on this I can’t wait to read the next one!

The banter between Jane and Gavriil is lighthearted and witty and brings a new dynamic to the mafia world, which usually has surly, grumpy men. Though the obsession is still there and I am here for it.
Jane and Gav accidentally cross paths through a text Jane sends to a wrong number. I love their initial flirting over the text. The first time they meet is definitely explosive and not at all the way you’d think that would go. There are definitely some funny moments in all the seriousness.
I am so excited for the rest of this series. Maya Wren created a beautifully violent world of mafia men, with the sweet innocence of what happens when a woman is accidentally pulled into a war she knows nothing about. But as Gav quickly learns, expect the unexpected.
I picked up Wrong Number on a whim and ended up reading it in one sitting. The story hooked me right away with the accidental text premise, and the chemistry between the characters was impossible to resist. Their conversations felt natural and funny, and I loved watching their relationship grow from strangers to something much deeper.
There was a great mix of humor, romance, and emotional moments that kept me invested the whole time. The pacing was smooth, and I found myself smiling at so many of the interactions.
If you’re looking for a sweet, engaging romance with plenty of tension and heart, I highly recommend this one. Definitely a worthwhile read!.

This started out SO strong for me and I was convinced about 40% in that it was going to be a 4 or 5 star read...Then after about 53% it just changed. I can't put my finger on exactly what happened but it was not interesting anymore. I did feel like the chemistry between Jane and Gavriil fell flat once they met in person and the tension leading up to when and how they would meet was very anticlimactic. Once they were locked in his apartment together there was 0 tension and it was jut like "Ok, now what..." I will read the second book when it comes out because, this wasn't bad enough for me to DNF but I am not looking for it the day it comes out. I skimmed a lot near the end and that really stinks because the first half was so good!

Well, this was fun. I read this pretty much in one sitting, so I definitely enjoyed it. I liked Jane and wanted to see her happy. The stuff with her mom was heartwrenching and relatable. And Gav had his own struggles with his dad, and people going after his family. The way these two met wasn't the most original, but it worked for them because these two had lots of banter. There was action and some violence(this is a mafia romance after all), emotional scenes what with both characters' family troubles, and a romance it was interesting to watch grow from flirtation to love. Well. Obsession to love on Gavriil's part. I'm a little interested in Gavriil's brothers, so maybe I'll read the second book.

FANtastic start to the series! Look forward to more from this world.
The characters were very complex and compelling and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!
Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy the read!.

Absolutely loved this book. The way the characters are written is great, they are not indestructible gods, which is nice. They get hurt and are not still perfectly put together and polished is a nice change. Gavriil and Jane are amazing. She fights and she fights dirty, with no training she holds her own. The garage scene is my favorite! The banter between her and everyone is top notch. I really enjoy the way she gets under Gavriil's skin and just makes herself at home. Her quiting her job was also something that im pretty sure anyone who has ever had a shit boss dreams of! I can't wait for more!
This book was excellent I saw it on TikTok and usually I just scroll past those because TikTok is not good for book recommendations but there was an excerpt and the writing seemed okay and premise was interesting. I enjoyed the premise when Jae did it in Wrong Number Right Woman so I figured I’d give this book a shot and I’m so glad I did
What I liked: 🥰 Jane - I loved Jane - she was awesome So hard working and a fighter and her own person 🥰 the story - I loved how the story developed, the writing was good and the characters were interesting 🥰 the chapter where Jane quits her job - so satisfying
I grabbed this because I liked the cover lol. But once I got into the story, I couldn’t put out down. Texting a number by mistake, and having them text back. More than once. Turning into a conversation by messages. I loved that these two were enjoying texting one another back and forth. Then to find out he’s watching you. Knows things no one else should know. Protecting you from a distance. This was such an intense story. I loved both of the main characters and the relationship that they built with one another. I just couldn’t put this one down until I was finished.
Loved it. Couldn’t put it down. I love having an FMC that isn’t in their early 20s. What got me though is the descriptions. This author knows the right way to describe emotions, describe fight scenes and describe what it’s like being poor, trapped in an office with bills piling up around your neck .. I could go on about this forever, but I’ll leave it at - this is a grown woman’s book. 100/10 and Maya Wren has been pushed into my top 3 authors with this book!
Okay!! Started off intresting but there wasn't any chemistry between the leads when they meet in person. There text exchanges were far more crackling than their face to face meeting. Tbh..it started going down after that only. The full blown war started in the middle of the book.. there wasn't much between the couple by that time.. one f+#k is nthng I guess.. and suddenly there was so much love and mine and touch her n die things happened which didn't even make sense to me! Technically I DNFd it at 92% but it's okay I guess.. nothing was left to happen by the time.
There’s something to be said about a book that features the gruesome tendencies of MAFIA and mix in a dose of authentic comedy.
I LOVE mafia novels - arguably my favorite trope. However, it seems like most book these days are about “shock value” and seeing who can one-up the other. Wrong Number was a refreshing and HIGHLY needed palate cleanser!
MMC? Drool worthy.
FMC? Fiery, ADULT, and real. Not the least bit annoying.
AND THE BEST PART??! Everyone was over the age of 30. NO TEENAGERS TO BE FOUND!
Just make sure there’s a table set for Burt. He’ll take the chicken.
Bratva romantic suspense . . . What's not to love ❤️. I devoured this book and loved every word of it 😊.
Jane freeking Fitzgerald 👏👏 this gal is bad ass!! Not in the beginning mind you but this woman grows into a bad ass and i loved that for her ❤️. For me she stole the whole book 📖. Gav ( Jane's wrong number guy) and main male character is captain for the bratva. Powerful, loyal and captivated by Jane ❤️.
Its gory, its finding love in the most unusual way and its 1000% recommended 🇮🇪🍀
I DNF this book, but I’m giving it 3 ⭐️. Based on my progress in the book, the writing was really good. It was descriptive without being verbose; I laughed out loud at some of Jane’s witty/snarky internal monologue. I think the problem was Gavriil. He was so impersonal and distant, even from the reader’s perspective, and there wasn’t anything that drew me to him as a reader. The action/intrigue was slow to develop, and I found myself uninterested in what would happen next. So, for that reason, I tapped out.
Jane’s mother is in a nursing home with early onset dementia. She hates her job because her boss is not pleasant. She needs to supplement her income.
She sees an ad being paid to text men. Her first profile he’s Alpha male seeking strong woman to surrender behind closed doors.
She transposes the last two number and texts Gavriil seductive photos. It’s his phone that only contacts his brothers and father. He is second in command in the Bratva. He tries to leave her out but becomes obsessed.
They are chasing the family trying to cause a war and shot their father.
Jane finds her place in the family.

Gavrill and Jane what can I say ! The stalker meets his match. The love he has for Jane is so real. He tried so so hard to keep her from living in his life. But she absolutely loved it.
Cant wait for the next one !.

First for me from this author and I deffinately will read more ! It’s the usual mafia sagas but the characters dynamics made me laugh out loud from the beginning with their banter inbetween the seriousness of the story a definite read.

Normal everyday girl drowning in corporate America and juggling her mom’s skill care costs finds herself in search of a second job. A fat finger leads to changing her life forever. Jane is witty, determined and a fierce FMC. Gavriil is born Russian Bratva and protects what is his……she texting the wrong number……makes her his. I think you’ll this! 5 ⭐️ 2.5🌶️
Potential is here. Good story, suspense, a bit of ‘who dunnit?’ I kept reading because I wanted to know what would happen next and I wanted to see the romance bloom, but that is an area this book is really lacking. The chemistry, the push and pull, the angst, is just missing. The last 80percent really drags too. I found myself skimming to get to the end. I did love how tough Jane is though.
Gav and Jane start out on very unpredictable paths. From how they met to how they ended up these two were destined to be together. Plus she had a great personality.
It was good but it wasn’t great. More heat would’ve been nice, I did enjoy the banter. I do love how fierce Jane became but idk I was still left wanting.
It was a good read, I enjoyed it. Funny but brutal. Loved the way this couple “met”. They were perfect for each other. Will definitely read the next one.
Meh. I enjoyed the flirtatious texting at the beginning of the book. The character personalities for the rest of the book didn’t match the beginning of the book.
