She has exactly one piece of leverage on a very dangerous man. She uses it to get herself a job. And, somehow, a boyfriend.

Brynn Satcher is a graphic designer with a taste for the darker things in life, an appetite she feeds on true crime documentaries. But watching them has never made her want to be in one.

Operative Zero doesn't exist—not to the Bureau, not to anyone but the man who runs it. He specializes in permanent solutions, the kind that erase people from existence. Right now he's hunting a predator to deliver his own brand of justice.

A foul-mouthed woman in platform boots walking into the middle of it? Not part of the plan.

To make matters worse, she's the designer contracted to work with his daytime identity: Indigo West, curator of one of the most prestigious art museums in Los Angeles. And Brynn is already piecing together exactly who he is.

Most witnesses run. She negotiates. He tells himself that keeping her close means keeping her in check.

But when the police turn their attention to Brynn, she becomes a liability—a thread that could lead investigators straight to Operative Zero and everything he's buried.

Forced into an alliance neither of them wanted, Indigo and Brynn have to stay ahead of the law long enough to survive each other.

Staying alive turns out to be the easy part. Falling in love is what could ruin them both.

N. N. Britt - Zero

Super dark, intense, and deliciously suspenseful!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Heirs of the Dark: Zero & Brynn

This was intense! I’ll admit, I wasn’t entirely convinced at first how Zero and Brynn were going to work. He seemed a little too detached, and while he showed intrigue of a sort, it wasn’t exactly screaming attachment.

But… as the story progressed, I started to see it. I became invested in them, and by the end, I was having a grand time with these two!

Both have complex histories that have shaped who they are, but I really liked how those histories weren’t the main focus of their story. They had an impact, certainly, but added context to the characters rather than taking over the entire storyline.

The tension just kept building, and building, and building...
It was a delicious waiting game, wondering when it would finally break and how that was going to happen. Add in all the twists and turns, with some things going in completely the opposite direction to what you expect, and I was hooked.

I also loved that both characters were strong yet vulnerable. Neither felt one-dimensional, and watching their connection develop was all the more satisfying because it wasn’t an instant, obvious attachment.

A seriously dark romantic suspense with an explosive slow burn, plenty of surprises, and two characters who really grew on me

Brynn Satcher is a graphic designer who loves all things dark and true crime. But she never expects to find herself caught up in a mystery of her own.

Indigo West is a respected art curator in Los Angeles, but behind his professional life is a dangerous secret. When their worlds collide, Brynn finds herself tangled in something far more complicated than she ever imagined.

I really enjoyed this dark romantic suspense! I loved the mystery, the suspense, and trying to piece together what was happening as the story unfolded.

Can we talk about Brynn for a second? I absolutely loved that she could hold her own! She’s outspoken, sarcastic, and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. I really enjoyed her personality and the back-and-forth between her and Indigo. Their dynamic worked really well for me.

Why four stars instead of five? While I enjoyed the story and the characters, I never felt quite as emotionally invested as I wanted to be. There were moments that should have hit me harder emotionally, but they just didn’t. It wasn’t that anything about the story or the relationship didn’t work for me. I simply didn’t develop that deeper connection that usually makes a book a five-star read for me.

Thank you to N.N. Britt for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I devoured this book! Give me a morally gray man, a fearless heroine, murder, mystery, and sizzling chemistry, and I am immediately hooked. I absolutely loved Brynn. Her dark interests, sharp tongue, and refusal to be intimidated made her such a fun character. Instead of running when she realizes Indigo is hiding something dangerous, she negotiates her way into his life, and I loved every second of it. Indigo was equally fascinating, balancing his polished museum curator persona with his secret life as Operative Zero. Their chemistry was fantastic, and I loved the tension and push and pull between them. Even after things turned physical, their relationship remained complicated, which made me even more invested. The spice definitely delivered! Although I guessed some parts of the mystery, it never diminished my enjoyment. The writing kept me hooked, and I flew through this in a day. Dark, addictive, and packed with tension, this has convinced me to explore more of this author's books.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This is Book 2 of the Heirs of the Dark series, as a standalone novel.

The book is dark...but you know what youre getting into....Read the Trigger Warning List!!

I like the characters...Brynn & Indigo are powerful...especially when they work together. There are good, unexpected plot twists, which I appreciated. Their chemistry is explosive and the push and pull between them is well written. The book is fast paced & will hook you & keep you coming back for more!

The book is told in a dual 1st person POV (with a couple chapters interspersed that have a perspective from another character).

Spice level: 3.5/5

N N Britt is a new to me author and I will absolutely be exploring their other books. I loved this. Whilst some of the plot is things we’ve read before, I still couldn’t put it down. I’m starting to realise that I just love the combination of mystery, morally ambiguous murder and a badass FMC.

I loved the tension between Indigo and Brynn. I loved that once we’d crossed that line, it wasn’t go go go. They kept on bouncing back and forth. The spice was hot af. Although the mystery wasn’t really that unpredictable, I don’t think it took away from how much I enjoyed this. I really enjoy how this author writes.

I read this in 24 hours… that’s my verdict! Enjoy!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Victory Editing for allowing me to read this arc #NetGalley #Zero

Zero was the perfect mix of mystery, murder, and spice. I love a good serial killer romance, and this one absolutely delivered! The mutual trauma they were both working through and healing from added so much to their story. The sass, the reluctance, the tension… I ate it all up. It was so, so good, and I loved every minute of it!
