Kitty struggles, and rises up
An amazing story of family, love, resilience and dreams. This book about Kitty McKenzie is filled with wonderful characters and original story lines. It was hard for me to put this book down, and I felt almost bereft when I reached the last page. Thankfully, there is a second volume of Kitty's story to enjoy.

I was so surprised by this i don't usually read historical but gave this a go for a group challenge.....
Kitty weaves through England in the Victorian Era as all her wealth and riches are stripped from her and her sibling... its a story of a woman with so much strength love and kindness she overcomes the impossible....
I loved the writing style the characters the descriptions everything was perfect and pulled the reader in....I did feel some of the luck she stumbled on was a bit too fortunate so quickly but still an amazing read... wish it was longer.

Que leitura gostosa! Eu suspirei, chorei ( MUITO), torci, fiquei irritada... enfim, o livro me despertou diversas sensações. Kitty é uma personagem forte, ela coloca seus sonhos e vontades por último, em troca da felicidade e necessidade das pessoas que ama. Acompanhamos a aventura da família McKenzie tentando reencontrar uma forma de viver após perderem tudo. Os personagens secundários cativam tanto, que é impossível não nos apegar a eles.

Hoje vim trazer para vocês um livro que li em parceria com a #leahabooks
Kitty McKenzie é uma moça que cresceu em meio a riqueza até que ambos os pais sucumbem a uma doença e a deixa com seis irmãos mais novos.
Despejada e falida com o que restou de sua família e sem ter para onde ir, mas se negando a falhar em sua promessa de manter todos juntos, Kitty encontra em um bairro pobre um abrigo.
É um recomeço difícil para os McKenzie's, o irmão Rory, de dezoito anos, abandona a todos e Kitty precisa enfrentar ainda a desconfiança dos credores de seus pais, ela continua com sua força e inteligência.
Amizades verdadeiras e um grande amor vão surgir, escolhas e momentos muito duros também. Um livro sobre uma batalhadora que se nega a desistir de lutar.
Que livro, gente, que livro. Eu fiz um diário de leitura no meu instagram e chorei, sofri e sorri também, é muito rápido de se ler, não tem uma pausa nos acontecimentos e sempre que parece tudo bem algo inesperado acontece, algo feliz, algo desesperador de querer chorar e chorar mesmo.
Senti revolta e entendi o lado de Rory, apesar dele merecer uma tijolada na cara para parar de ser ingrato (sem querer ser muito violenta, e isso não é SPOILER porque está no começo do livro), por que ele teve que fazer aquilo? Eu me senti traída, e admirei muito mais a Kitty por ela ter sido tão forte mesmo com essa traição.
E há outros personagens adoráveis que a gente se apega, apega e se preocupa, e outra que também merece tijolo na cara. Sou da paz, porém têm coisas que são difíceis de aceitar.
Tem romance, suspirei, não possui cenas +18, e só espero o casal no próximo livro, torcendo aqui para eles até com bandeiras se for preciso.
Enfim, recomendado!
A edição é em E-book, tem detalhes em cada capítulo e aprendi que o verbo falir tem conjugação no futuro do pretérito do indicativo, é por isso que adoro ler kkkk.
Chorei, partiu meu coração em diversas vezes, mas acima de tudo eu admirei a Kitty pela força dela de superar as dificuldades e conseguir manter a família unida. Espero ansiosa pelo segundo livro.
Coloquei uma trilha sonora para o casal, acho que combina: Lost for Words, de Plested.

While I read Kitty Mc Kenzie I really cared about her and hoped her story would have a happy ending. Every twist and turn in the tale by Brear, a talented novelist, made it difficult to put the book aside. I wanted to keep on reading to find out what happened next, regardless of everything I had to do.
In York, England in the year 1864, at her mother and father’s funeral, 21 year-old Kitty vows she will take care of her 6 brothers and sisters, whose ages range from 16 to 2 years. However, Kitty wonders who will take care of her. No longer do her family hold “an esteemed position in the community with money, handsome looks and good health.”
After the McKenzie’s “once happy home” and its contents are sold to settle their parents’ debts, they are almost penniless. Kitty must find somewhere for them to live, and she and her two eldest brothers must find work.
Kitty and her siblings are forced to live in the slums. There “…in the bowels of the city people lived and breathed poverty. Despair, depression and the threat of sickness and disease faced them every day of their lives.”
In the dreadful cellar the only place which she could find to live in “Kitty looked around at what had become of her life. A damp, dirty cellar was all that stood between her and her family having a roof over their heads or being thrown out on the streets.”
I admired Kitty, who found a job on a secondhand clothes stall in the market. She also made friends with Connie, a neighbour, and Connie’s husband good-hearted Max, who are always ready to help. From then on, bit by bit, Kitty forges ahead. She also meets Benjamin Kingsley, whose father wants him to go to Australia to start an import export business. She likes Benjamin who “didn’t play the high and mighty gentleman, pleasing Kitty immediately. It was becoming clear to her that Benjamin Kingsley was no ordinary man and she liked him very much.” But I wondered how much did he like her and what he wanted of her.
Through all of the difficulties life threw at Kitty, she kept her pride and endured them, while her financial situation gradually improved. I hoped she would have a happy ever after life, but until I have read the sequel, Kitty McKenzie’s land, which I will review, I won’t know what her fate will be.

Amei conhecer a escrita de AnneMarie Brear. Sinto não ter lido nada dela até hoje, mas sempre há uma primeira vez para tudo, ainda bem.
Simplesmente perfeito. Disparou para o primeiro lugar das leituras desse ano, tomando a posição do A Filha do Duque da Lorraine.
Nunca tinha ouvido falar dessa autora, mas ela é maravilhosa.
Vivi uma montanha russa de emoções nesse livro.
Que força e senso de família extraordinários tem essa personagem. Que coragem, que dedicação.
Fiquei com raiva, chorei, tive que tomar calmante, sorri, me emocionei.
Esse é daqueles livros que provam que não é preciso ter cenas hot para ser bom.
Tem um romance tão lindo, tão puro que encanta.
Não vejo a hora que saia o segundo volume para poder continuar acompanhando a saga dessa família quer já tomou conta do meu coração.
Não dou 5 estrelas, dou é cinco estrelas com cinco corações.

Bem, eu gostei deste livro, porém menos do que eu tinha projetado.
Continuarei lendo a saga, porque quero ver ainda mais a evolução da Kitty diante de tantos infortúnios da vida.
Preciso dizer que gosto da ambientação do livro e da forma como ele é estruturado. Grata surpresa conhecer mais uma escritora talentosa.

Nem sei descrever quando a Kitty é guerreira. Pense só, na época, 1864, ela quase com seus 21 anos de idade, se vê na responsabilidade de cuidar dos seus irmãos.
Muitooo difícil, pois seus pais, quando morrem de febre tifoide , deixaram muitas dívidas acumuladas.
E pobre Kitty estava perdida. Seis irmãos mais novos que ela sob o seu cuidado, todos sem teto, até um certo momento...
Apesar de todos os embaraços que a protagonista estava vivendo, sua vida teve uma nova cor quando Benjamin aparece.
A história tem um enredo super envolvente. Recomeço; garra ; força; coragem ; perseverança...

Set in England in 1823 – after losing their parents, house and home Kitty, as the eldest child, has to find a way of surviving, living and providing for all her younger siblings. The culture shock of trying to make ends meet, affordable living, clothing and keeping warm during the harsh winter months she finds help comes from surprising places.

Que delícia de livro! Que mulher maravilhosa!!!!! Despreparada pra uma vida totalmente oposta a que vivia, Katty prometeu a seus pais que manteria a familia unida, enterrando seus sonhos...de uma rica família ate a extrema pobreza, Kitty nos mostra sua força e determinação, com a ajuda de pessoas incríveis e de um amor, Benjamim (ou Ben❤). Um livro incrível que todos devem ler!

I have come to conclusion that the authors books are very similar, after reading several of her books after the first chapter or thereafter you know how the story will develop! Rather disappointing !!

a top class story.
I feel I have found another very good author. I have now read three of AnneMarie Brear’s books and they have all been excellent. They have a proper ending which I like.

Brilliant
Loved this story of Kitty's struggle to save her family. Them descriptions of how people lived then were very interesting.
I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Really enjoyed this, although I didn't realise it was the first of 2 books. I have now bought book 2, Kitty McKenzie's Land.

Kitty McKenzie is a gritty but heart warming story of a young woman in York in the Victorian era, fighting to protect her siblings and keep them together after their parents are killed. At the hands of a very good writer, my emotions rose and fell with Kitty's struggle.. Kitty is such a great character, strong, and determined not to allow the hardships she faces to get the better of her as she works hard and selflessly to rise above their bleak future. But all the other well-drawn characters were great too. A slice of Victorian life with a real ring of authenticity. I was caught up in this story. Loved it. Can't wait for the next book.
