For anyone who is a fan of My Fair Lady (or Pygmalion) and a good romantic fantasy, My Fae Lady is a win/win read — that perfect combination where the nostalgia of the classic meets the magic of romantasy tropes.
The great merit of S.L. Prater and Jen Lynning lies in how they honor the original work. The winks, along with some of the iconic behaviors and lines, are all there — like the memorable "Rain in Spain" exercise, cleverly reinvented as a lesson in Fae etiquette and sharpness —, but without ever falling into a static copy.
The dynamics between the protagonists gain even more strength thanks to the setting: Rook Manor itself is no mere backdrop, but a character in its own right.
Which was an instant bonus for me, as I adore sentient houses; I believe they bring so much more "flavor" to the plot.
Of course, this one could be no different: a sentient house with a very strong mind of its own and bold actions, acting as a true matchmaker by constantly pushing them into each other's orbit.
This house-forced proximity intensifies the chemistry and the friction that obliges them to resolve pending issues and hidden feelings.
It is a delight to witness the characters' banter through sharp dialogue and a fluid pace that maintains just the right balance between a cozy, fun tone and dangerous intrigue.
Having read several books by both authors, I can confidently say that the partnership between Prater and Lynning is, in my opinion, a complete success.
My Fae Lady is a clever, engaging, fun, and unmissable retelling of a movie/work I love!
I can't wait to learn more about the side characters and see how the main couple evolves in the sequel focused on the heroine's friend. It definitely left me curious!

One of my favorite musicals of all time is My Fair Lady. Eliza Doolittle, the rain in Spain, the humor... I love it.
So I’m going to be completely honest, the title of this book is what grabbed my attention.
Then I read the blurb and saw marriage of convenience and a sentient house with a mind of its own, and I was like, okay, you have my attention.
But actually reading it and getting those My Fair Lady vibes?
I was hooked almost immediately and loved every second of it.
Giselle is strong, independent, and feisty, but she needs to play meek. Sylvan is rough around the edges and willing to do just about anything to get his house back. Put these two together and the banter is SO GOOD. I loved their interactions.
And then there’s the house.
This house is a freaking trickster.
I never thought I would say that a house was one of my favorite characters in a book, but here we are.
This book was just so sweet, cozy, lighthearted, and FUN. Sometimes you need a fantasy book that doesn't feel like it is trying to emotionally destroy you every five pages, and this was exactly what I needed.
If you are sick of all the dark and heavy fantasy stories and want something sweet, funny, cozy, and completely enjoyable, you HAVE to pick this one up.

It’s a 4.5 but leaning more towards a 5 than a 4.
What did I love?
- The Beauty and the Beast vibe. With a sentient manor, a grumpy MMC and a curious FMC? It was obvious it would happen, buuuut… It was such a precious feeling for the kid in me. Some moments are heavy nods to the Disney version and it was well done!
- The backstory. It was intriguing just as it should be. Just as it needed to be. Sylvan’s backstory is given piece by piece, at the right pace, and as much as I needed.
- Giselle, I love her, she is so cool. Actually I love the characterization in general. Yes the characters surrounding Giselle and Sylvan can be clichés (not all), but it makes them so funny and THEY WORK. They are so tangible. I could see them, I could hear them.
- Sylvan, I tend to be fed up with dark hair bookboyfriends with fangs and pointed ears. He was the part I was worried to not enjoy as much as the rest. I love him. Because he isn’t just as dark and mysterious, because he is FUN. Thank you S.L. And Jen, he is FUN. He is fun AND sexy with Giselle. He has a huge Adam vibe from Beauty and the Beast (again yeah I know).
- House, I love the manor and I love it even more when we discover the other side of its personality.
What did I dislike?
- The fact that Caroline’s nickname is Caro. I think it’s just a Tiffany effect and as you can see, it’s really not important. But I had the same feeling as if I was reading an anachronism each time it appeared.

- I didn’t enjoy the epilogue as much as I thought I would. It is nice, love that it’s from Caro point of view (it was really clever with what happens in it).
But the main thing is : concerning Giselle and Sylvan, the last scene was a bit too much lovey for me. Too much Disney if you see what I mean (which is funny when we see the rest of my review).
The second is that I felt as if it was much more a way to announce a book about Caro than an epilogue. And this is where if it wasn’t, I look like a fool.
Soo yeah, not a huge flaw and not even a flaw as it’s just personal preference.

In a few words : It was such a pleasant reading, I devoured it in 4 hours. The vibes are ON POINT, the characters are evolving at a good and natural pace (and with a book about a woman and her unseelie paper husband, it was really important). It’s a fresh take on the fae world, a cute retelling of the « My fair Lady/Pygmalion » story, for fans of period dramas and one bed trope (this one is shrinking btw). Love it!

My opinion:
I enjoyed this novel, especially the House and the humor. How fun would it be to live in this House?!? I recommend this book to all who love fun romantasies.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a quick, light read, with low angst- great for when you just wanna cozy up with a book. It's like a magical, gender-swapped My Fair Lady for the first half of the book, then the second half switches to concentrate more on how Giselle and Sylvan's expectations for their future are upset by their sentient, meddling house. I thought Prater and Lynning did a really good job of transitioning between what was basically two acts. I was also a big fan of the FMC, Giselle. She was super capable, curious, and kind. I think I would've like to get a little more depth to Sylvan beyond how he felt about Giselle and his property, but it wasn't a big deal.
My only real criticism, which had me waffling between 3.5 and 4 stars, came near the end of the book and was how one of the conflicts was resolved. I don't want to get too detailed because of spoilers, but it's a thread that's mentioned throughout the book, and when it was resolved, we didn't really get a chance to just sit with the emotional impact before we were moving on to Giselle and Sylvan declaring their feelings for each other. For me, it lessened the impact of both of those really significant moments and felt like emotional whiplash. I had big feelings (not in a good way) about Giselle's relationship with her dad at the end, but considering my own biases, those might be more of a me problem, so I tried not to consider them when giving the rating for the book.
Overall though, this was a fun read. I loved how the house acted as a third main character, and found its cheeky, interfering nature to be super entertaining.

The story follows Giselle, who has been residing in Rook Manor all her life. But when a distant family member tries to take ownership of it, she has no choice but to get married to receive the house as her dowry before she loses her home. After making a deal with an Unseelie Lord who's been living in a tree for decades, she doesn't quite expect the suitor he provides for her. Or his ungentlemanly manners.
I struggled a bit with the pacing of this book, as it felt a bit rushed at times, and I wish we would've had a bit more build-up for the romance instead of it seeming to happen very quickly. I also wish we could've had more background on the world itself and some information about her father because that was brushed over quite quickly.
I tend to enjoy more complex fantasy books, which I think is why I felt a bit mediocre about this story. It was fun for what it was, and anyone who enjoys easy, lighthearted fantasy romance with sarcastic banter, the one-bed trope and the marriage-of-convenience trope will enjoy this one!

This is a story of structure and disorder, of rules and chaos, of forests and towns, of bindings and enchantments, and the most unusual house. Two opposing worlds collide and merge into something new. What fun! Lord Scratch, known as Lord Sylvan, has his life rudely interrupted as he sleeps in his tree home. He finds himself in the eye of a storm, known as Lady Giselle Barton. He is all bark, an Unseelie fae, ready for revenge, but I have to question his bite. Lady Giselle, a Seelie who is forced to make bargains with the devil (an Unseelie, Sylvan) to win the fight to protect her life and keep her house. Sylvan is working with Giselle to win back his house. Unfortunately, it is the same house. Seelie vs Unseelie, their adventure results in an unplanned merger. Their time together is full of tension, unexpected tenderness, arguments, secrets, and planned revenge. Best of all, there is The House. It is a house that has extraordinarily strong opinions and is not afraid in the least to show it. Sylvan and Giselle are much like the house. Join these two, no, three in a most wonderful story of finding home. I am a fan of Jen Lynning, I believe I am now a fan of S.L.Prater as well. My heart NEEDED this precious Romantasy standalone by SL Prater and Jenn Lynning. It was utterly hilarious, whimsical, banter filled, sweet with a dash of spice, and cozy. After being tormented by so many high stakes cliffys, this story gave me some healing.
We follow a dual POV in MFL between Giselle, who seeks a paper only husband to save her sentient mansion from her conniving cousins, and Sylvan, an Unseelie lord bent on revenge for the family that stole his home and wings…. Which so happens to be Giselle’s family AND home. So, naturally this binding fae bargain begins with trouble. This quick and cozy read gives us all the laughs, slow burn, tension, and yearning that we long for in a romance while also weaving a fantastical story full of seelie, Unseelie, a sentient matching among mansion, magical artifacts, and fussy humans. I laughed and smiled so much!

*My Fae Lady* was such a fun and quirky read! I really liked the whole idea of Giselle needing a fake husband just so she can keep her manor and be left alone with her magical studies, only to end up with Sylvan, a wild Unseelie who has his own reasons for marrying her. The fake marriage, forced proximity, fae setting and especially the magical manor made this really entertaining. Giselle and Sylvan were both so fun to read about, and I honestly loved watching their relationship slowly change from “this is just a deal” into something much more.
The writing felt light, funny and easy to get into, and there were quite a few moments that actually made me smile. I especially enjoyed the banter between them and Sylvan slowly becoming more protective of Giselle. The magical house was also one of my favorite parts because it almost felt like another character in the story. I do wish there had been a little more world-building and time to explore some of the magical parts because I was curious about them. But overall, this was a really cute, funny fae romance with a charming couple and a cozy magical feeling. I had a genuinely good time reading it and definitely finished it with a happy feeling.

I was excited to get this ARC because this book has some of my favorite elements in a cozy romantasy.

Giselle is a lovely character. She is intelligent and curious, and scientifically minded. She studies magical artifacts and the flow of different types of magic in the house. She is enthusiastic and playful and kind.
Sylvan is a little rough around the edges, and must learn to fit in with polite society. They have a lot of banter as Giselle instructs him in etiquette.
It reminded me a bit of How to Find a Nameless Fae, with the whole sentient house concept.

What an absolute delight of a book! I have read 5 of Jen’s book these past few weeks and loved all of them, so when I saw she had ARC signups open for My Fae Lady I absolutely rushed to fill that form out 🏃♀️
As soon as it came through it made it to the top of my TBR and I promptly devoured the whole thing in a matter of days. I loved every single second of this book - the forced proximity to friends to ENEMIES to lovers was chefs kiss 🤌🏻 and I absolutely ate up the sassy lil matchmaker house! I had forgotten all about that by the time it came up because I was so engaged in the other storylines, so when house started being a little brat I was kicking my feet and giggling away

My Fae Lady was my first ARC read, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself the whole way through. This lands somewhere around a 3.75-4 for me, and my few complaints all fall neatly into the “Would have benefited from being longer” category. Some deeper explorations of things brought into play late in the book would bring this solidly to a 4.5-5 star read, easily.
The best way I can describe this reading experience is bouncy and fun. A scheming, sentient house scratches a very specific itch in my brain, and I loved every second of House’s interactions with Giselle and Sylvan.
The banter and general writing style is reminiscent of Howl’s Moving Castle to me (another itch that I should devote more time to scratching.) It’s a whimsical world that allows you to sink into magic without having to sacrifice your sanity to keep up with world building, but still feels complete.
All in all, this is a super fun read that I’d recommend to anyone looking for an easygoing, loveable, ✨magical✨ romance

Plot: Seelie Giselle lives happily alone in magical Rook Manor. But a meddling cousin is making a bid for ownership, since it legally isnt hers until she marries. So she enlists Sylvan, a scuffy Unseelie, to be her husband on paper so she can claim the house. Little does she know the house was originally his and he wants it back.
Props to that house, who is really all us readers. It just chucked a tanty when they were fighting for it and forced them to spend time together (eg locking them in a room, making them share a bed) and it was so good.
The MCs were really cute together, and both fell early, which made it even better because they fought it. I loved Giselle's love of tinkering, and Sylvan's love of sweets. And their possessiveness of each other.
This was just such a nice, fluffy (in a good way), story to enjoy.

I love the characters and how their relationship evolves over the course of the book. At first they seem to not be compatible. Sylvan is bitter, angry and trying his best to get good his house back. Giselle is inquisitive, kind and desperate to keep her house. But as they are forced together we see how good they fit together despite their differences.

My Fae Lady was such a fun, unique read! Giselle's fake-marriage scheme with the feral Unseelie lord Sylvan sets up a delightfully funny premise, especially once his secret plan for revenge over the house comes into play. The magic system is genuinely inventive, and the sentient, mischievous house was easily my favorite part, constantly throwing obstacles in their path in the most entertaining way. Watching Giselle and Sylvan's dynamic shift as etiquette lessons turn into something more was enjoyable, though I'll admit their relationship felt a bit rushed at times rather than developing naturally, the forced proximity was fun, but a slower burn might have landed even better for me. The pacing dipped in places, but the humor and charming cast kept me engaged throughout. My only real complaint is that I wanted more time with these characters!

This was a very fun and unique book. I really liked the magic system in this, even though the explanation couldn't always keep my attention.
The story was a little slow at times, but it was very enjoyable. The characters were well written, and watching their dynamic change was very enjoyable.
I did feel that their relationship was forced very quickly instead of having a chance to naturally grow. I'm all for the house forcing them together, but the bed scene was a little too much. I would have preferred for them to drift closer instead of being shoved together in a small box.
But my favorite part of this was definitely the house and its antics. The idea of a sentient house deliberately putting obstacles in the owners' path is very funny.
If there is another standalone set in this world, I'm not sure I will pick it up, but I will definitely recommend this one.

This was a fun, short read. We definitely jumped right into it with the story, and while at first it was slightly jarring, I do feel like we eased into the story nicely once it got going. Could this book have been longer? Sure, but I actually don't feel like the story really suffered for the length.
I like that Giselle is fierce, knowing how to push to get what she wants without being insufferable. I liked the blend of her strength and her curiosity. Sylvan was also a good character. I liked the growth that we see from him and the contradiction between his wild nature and his segue into polite society.

I enjoyed the first half of the story involved with the marriage of convenience in order to save Giselle’s sentient house from being taken from her, but I found myself really hungry for more details about the world, how society worked, and with Sylvan’s prior conflict with her family, especially since that conflict is so crucial to the second half of the book. However, the characters get over their pride and prior hurts and end up with their HEA. This is the start of a series and it seems like Giselle’s friend will be getting her HEA next, so looking forward to that.

I am a die hard for arranged marriage and fake dating, so this was automatically spectacular. I couldn’t stop reading once I started it was so good. The authors explored the differences between Seelie and Unseelie fae so uniquely, even going into how power and fae qualities would dilute with mixed lineages. I have to say that Sylvan reminded me of King Bog from Strange Magic which honestly made this an even funnier and more entertaining read, and Giselle was a fantastic fmc to learn about. I loved the description for this book and how well it advertises the main ideas without taking away the anticipation and mystery of the actual story. This was a book to remember and one I look forward to rereading.

This book was a delight to read, it’s the perfect light romance to use as a palate cleanser. It started a bit awkwardly and I felt the chemistry wasn’t full there, but around 60% it found it’s stride.
I really enjoy a sentient house character regardless of any other plot. I Also love the connected stand-alone type of series and will 100% read the next one.

This was quick read with a couple who have lived some longer fae lives (she’s 200+ and he’s older, likely 1000+) and world development. The pacing in the first half of the book when they are getting to know each and getting ready for the legal battle felt like a solid foundation, but the second part of the book when they returned to the sentient manor felt more rushed.
One of the principle conflicts between the couple was resolved a bit quickly, and the fade to black bedroom scenes were okay, but I think that we could have a few more chapters to get to know the main characters as a couple, especially as the relationship grew along with the sentient manor’s antics.

We’ve all been there, we’re in a pickle and the easiest way out, is a deal with an Unseelie Faerie that lives in a tree - the usual.
The FMC, Giselle, has to face eviction from her family home, unless she can marry and claim her dowery before her cousin declares her father dead and take it all away. Sounds easy enough? Not quite!
From here on out, we go on an adventure of intrigue, magic, scheming and family history.

I absolutely adored this book. I loved the comedy of manners aspects of it, as well as the nods to my fair lady. It felt fresh while still clearly drawing inspiration from the musical. The FMC was quirky and fun while still being the “proper” one, and the MMC was dreamy and unsettling at the same time. Their dynamic was great, they still felt like equals even though they came from different worlds, and they still respected each other. I also loved the house as a character, meddling with the main characters in fun ways! Overall this was a fantastic read and I can’t wait for more from these authors.

THIS BOOK WAS ADORABLE. Giselle is a Seelie fae who lives alone in an enchanted house, but when news comes to her that shady relative is trying to steal her home from her she tries to take her future into her own hands. The home is her dowry, so she goes to ask an ancient Unseelie fae in the woods for a husband. Fae bargains, being tricky, end up with that very Unseelie fae, Sylvan, being her husband. It's a lovely grumpy/sunshine story. Their banter is adorable and laugh out loud funny at times. It will also make you want a magic house, I know I do. But the characters are absolutely charming as is the world they've built. I can't wait to read the next in the series!!
