The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

This book actually had 2 stories in it: Used-to-Be Lovers by Miler and Into His Private Domain by Janice Maynard. I liked Miller's story but didn't love it--though it was well written and a unique plot, it was a little too emotional for me. The story is about a recently divorced couple with 2 kids. Both Tony and Sharon are suffering; they both still love the other and neither really wanted the divorce but just couldn't figure out how to live together without hurting each other. I cried through most of the story and had to stop frequently because I couldn't read through my tears!

I really enjoyed Maynard's story. Gareth is a reclusive millionaire who has been hurt more than once in his past. But then Sharon shows up on his doorstep, falls and ends up with amnesia. He takes her into his home to help nurse her back to health and they both have trouble keeping their emotions in check, even knowing that they probably won't like what they find when she regains her memory.

I liked the ending...not to be rude, because it was over, but because the hero behaved intelligently and well. Before that, I had a hard time with both characters--her being too weak and him being too mean. Unlike other books where I come away thinking I want to read more by this author, this time I'm not there. At the same time, I recognize we're all different and best wishes. By the way this is for the 2nd story. I reviewed the first under a different cover.

Perhaps a little more back story would have helped me understand the main characters’ behavior better thus making them more likable. There was a lot of emotion and anger. Often, reactions seemed over the top. I love this author, and as always, enjoyed her writing style. Linda makes observations, metaphors, and similes that are memorable. This would have made a great full-length novel that started at the beginning of the marriage.

So I found a new romance trope I love, ex spouses. There were so many emotions that I felt during this book and it even made me cry. The second story in this book was really lackluster.

Great Book

Loved both stories. I have read Linda Lael Miller's books and she is a great author. Had never read any of Janice Maynard's and if this one is her style I will definitely read more of them

This was a fast read for me, but there really was a depth to either of these novels.
