Mr. Steep’s bad night has been put to bed: the dart game is finished, the assassins have gone home, and most of the fires are out. But the morning after is no cup of tea either. For one thing, Magnus still can’t see straight. Add to that a dress shop burnt to the ground, two hyperactive twins, and Lucinda’s awkward attempts to nurse Magnus back to health, and Teacup begins to wonder if he shouldn’t just stay in bed . . .

RINGS addresses unanswered questions from DARTS and toys with favorite caricatures from Sword and Sorcery. It also asks new questions: Since when could Petri leap between rooftops?

The second was as good as the first

Not sure what I can say that I didn't already say about the first book I think the only reason I didn't give it five stars, is because they were both too short I think you should combine them into one book. Nonetheless this is an excellent book with a well-thought-out plot excellent storyline and wonderful characters.

I enjoyed reading Darts and Rings of The Paladin’s Thief series and quickly moved through them. There were underlying stories working their way to the surface and craftily kept in their places to keep me interested and wanting more of this fun tale.

Both books tell a compelling story, individually and overall. For readers who play role-playing games, The Paladin’s Thief fits into the fantasy genre of how many of us expect a story to unfold. There are twists occurring to the characters who each have a story to tell. And relationships building between the characters that should keep them together for more stories in the future.

If you have younger readers wanting to read Darts and Rings, you may want to read them first. There are some adult themes that are hinted at, but not overly done. They are subtleties to a story and plot without slapping you in the face.

I recommend The Paladin’s Thief, Darts and Rings, to readers looking for a fun fantasy that is a quick read where it isn’t about the hero being the absolute good guy.

***Received from a goodreads giveaway ***

Another fun and imaginative short story in "The Paladin's Thief" series.

Although "Rings" displayed the female characters with somewhat more complexity than the first book, I'm still not a fan of the way women are portrayed in the artwork (waists that are literally too small to be healthy) and in the content. This book sticks to stereotypes about women being obsessed with men and trying to trick men into commitment. If it weren't for the propagation of negative stereotypes about women, it would be a 4-star short story.

Rings picks up right where Darts left off - we jump back into the story as Magnus and Teacup walk away from the burning tavern. Teacup now has to deal with the fallout from the fight as well as with old and new enemies coming after him.

In this book, we learn more about the characters we met in Darts. Magnus, Lucinda, Teacup's love interest Carmen and - perhaps most important - his kids and his dead wife Sarah. Everyone needs to come together as a family to defeat the evil that lurks in lower Ector and they don't know whom they can trust. The support of friends and family is more important than ever, as poor Teacup (who does not have it easy in Rings) faces certain death several times.

I loved how Teacup's character becomes much clearer in this story. He's someone I really enjoy reading about, someone I enjoy telling me a story, his story.

It's funny and engaging writing with beautiful description and cool details as we get to see the world beyond the tavern, where Teacup lives, what Ector is like and as we learn more about the mysterious nightshades and their even more mysterious oath rings.

Rings feels more mature than Darts did - a well-rounded story with an ending that leaves the reader satisfied for the time being yet contains enough open questions (did he try on the pants?) that make us want to return to Ector and find out what happens next.

3/10/19: I still love this book! It's fast-paced and exciting. I can't decide who my favorite character is, and I love that for the most part, the good guys aren't completely good and the bad guys aren't completely bad.

7/18/15: An excellent sequel: funny, sharp, and fast-paced! I especially liked getting to know Teamus's children a little better--they helped add color to his character, and were interesting all on their own. Hewett's nuanced cast and vivid world-building create a delightful escape from everyday life!

Ben Hewett has me hooked. This second book is a great addition into the Adventures of Teacup, or as he calls him, The Paladin's Thief. Teacup and his friends make for a great group to make for a nice, quick adventure that provides for a short, but fulfilling adventure that while it makes for a great read is also not a long, drawn-out novel. And yet it is just as thrilling as a long drawn-out novel.

The second book starts right where the first left off, after the bar brawl that day Carmen's shop on fire and killed the town's resident night shade.
Teacup is faced with a new series of problems, the least of which is a wanted fugitive housing with him. Very well written quick book. I can't wait to read how the series ends. The character development is much better than the first.

Hewett's aim is dead on with this well-paced, witty follow up to the bar-room romping DARTS. In this sequel, the leading ladies turn up the heat while Teacup swings and Magnus sees the light. What about Pale Tom's legacy? You'll have to read on to find out.

What a pleasant surprise! I received this book free in addition to the first one from #GoodreadGiveAways from the author themselves! It was a quaint quick read! I enjoyed the depths to the characters and the story. I only wished it was longer. I will be purchasing the rest of the series soon!
