Struggling to finish this extremely boring book that is basically an essay on Nazi history weakly told in novel format. The structure of the novel is lazy and relies entirely too many times on peripheral characters inquiring why the main characters are interested in learning about naziism. People in real life would not think they owe strangers such elaborate explanations and having the characters continuously entertain this in the novel is exasperating. The hook on the cover that this is a “gripping and unputdownable” ww2 novel is a joke. As an avid WWII historical fiction reader, this book easily goes into my bottom 5 books of all time. At almost 80% finished, I could care less about this book or the characters.

So so boring. More like an essay in a psychology class. The characters were neither realistic or very likeable. Struggled to finish thinking perhaps it would all come together but it was just more of the same. I am an avid reader of books of this era and honestly think this is at the bottom of the list. It just seemed contrived and not at all "gripping and unputdownable".

disappointing

Book mentions another child but never explains what happened and the true connection with 2 main characters. It feels unfinished and lead to a boring story overall
