“Our Unsung Heroes: Honouring their Love, Celebrating their Legacy”
This book is quite different from the other books I have read by author Jane Reid, and I absolutely loved it. It is a wonderful collection of stories about animals whom author Reid fittingly describes as “our unsung heroes.” They truly are heroes!
From cats and dogs to elephants, horses and sheep, and from eagles and parrots to orcas, whales, pigs, and goats, this book includes a remarkable variety of animal stories. It takes readers from farms to jungles and from land to water, highlighting the important roles animals have played throughout history. The book combines real historical events with inspiring accounts of animals’ courage, compassion, intelligence, and loyalty. These stories show how animals have contributed to human society through companionship, domestic work, transportation, rescue efforts, and many other forms of service. In each account, their bravery and devotion shine through. I also enjoyed the “titbit” sections, which were informative and interesting. The references and sources provided at the end are especially helpful for readers who would like to explore these stories further and expand their knowledge.
This book also brought back memories of my first pet, Rosy, whom my parents adopted when she was just a tiny puppy—almost like a little snowball. She grew into a precious companion to our entire family and, in many ways, became an even more cherished child to my parents than we were! What amazed us most was her ability to sense changes in my parents’ health and emotions. She could also recognize differences in people’s behavior. She seemed to have an incredibly keen awareness of everything happening around her. Because of her, I firmly believe that the loyalty and love animals give us are pure, unconditional, and selfless. Reading this book made me miss her deeply. She, too, was truly one remarkable pet.
This was an emotional, meaningful, and deeply satisfying read. It is comforting to know that animals are being seen, respected, and honored for their contributions to their human companions and to society as a whole. I hope this book touches the humanity within each of us and fills readers with a deeper appreciation for animals as loyal companions, brave protectors, and heroes who serve human society. May their stories inspire greater kindness, respect, and awareness while helping reduce animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment. A beautifully written, well-researched, and heartfelt book. Highly recommended!

This novel is a little different. It's a collection of stories, and facts, about animals that have left a mark in history. Everything from cats to giraffes, from pets to war heroes, they have been in the shadows for centuries.
I found the stories, and tidbits of facts, very interesting. It's a well thought out, and heartfelt, collection that can evoke memories of your own experiences with animals.
I think anyone with a love for animals will also find it interesting.
