The Devil’s Harvest was such a dark, unsettling read, and I genuinely loved how it blended a murder investigation with psychological horror, grief, and the terrifying side of blind faith.

The story follows Darius Jackson, a San Diego homicide detective investigating a pair of ritualistic murders that quickly turn into something much bigger than he could have imagined. The deeper Darius and his partner, Frank, dig into the Harvest of the Risen, the more disturbing everything becomes. What really got under my skin was the way the organization preys on people who are already vulnerable and grieving, twisting their pain into something they can control.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this one. Setting the story in San Diego in the fall of 1995 gave it an eerie, almost nostalgic backdrop while the investigation itself kept getting darker. There’s a constant feeling that something is seriously wrong beneath the surface, and every new revelation made me want to keep reading.

The psychological aspect was definitely one of my favorite parts. This isn’t just about figuring out who is behind the murders—it digs into manipulation, obsession, grief, and how desperately people can cling to belonging when they’re hurting. The idea of someone using faith and suffering to manipulate others was genuinely disturbing.

Darius was also a character I enjoyed following. His investigation feels personal as the stakes continue to rise, and watching him uncover just how far this organization is willing to go kept the tension high.

Overall, The Devil’s Harvest is a creepy, atmospheric psychological thriller with a disturbing premise, a compelling investigation, and plenty of darkness hiding beneath the surface. If you enjoy murder mysteries with cults, ritualistic killings, psychological suspense, and stories that explore the darker side of human nature, this one is definitely worth checking out.

That ending though… 👀 I definitely needed a minute after that.

I LOVE how all of Becca's short stories fall around a season!
We had The Final Carol for Christmas, Yours. Always for Valentine’s Day & Now we have The Devil's Harvest for Halloween Spooky season!!! “Halloween. Because apparently murderers care about the vibe now.” will forever make me chuckle coming from Frank 🤣

As always, this short story, like the rest so far, connect back to the world of her debut novel The Fifth Lock, all short stories are told from the POV of Darius Jackson (the father of the fmc from TFL). - Spoiler or no spoiler, you need to know who he is for them all so you can find the link to all stories.

Anyways, with regards to this short story. I really enjoyed getting to know Darius some more. This particular one follows a cult, that is all I'm saying.

It had me hook line & sinker, and I downloaded and read it as soon as i got the email. Within like maybe 2 hours or less I was 60-80% through..it is a 1000% page turner and I was calling the main unaliver from the start whether I was right, I am not saying 🤣, read it and find out.

The twist at the end got me and becca and I had words 👀😝🤣 (not the bad kind lol, but the ermmm wtf becca kind)..

'The Devil’s Harvest' by Becca Lynne delivers a dark and spooky narrative centered on the manipulation of vulnerable people. The story is told from the point of view of Darius, the detective investigating a string of murders. This perspective grounds the darker themes and turns the procedural elements into a surprisingly emotional read. The spookiness comes from the unsettling nature of the crimes and the psychological manipulation rather than the physical setting itself. Even though the chapters are medium in length, the pacing felt a bit slow given the shorter format of the story. The grim atmosphere carries the momentum instead of relying on big twists, leading to an ending that is executed quite well. I appreciated that the motives unfolded naturally without relying on a massive information dump to explain everything at the climax. A few unanswered questions do linger, which detracts a little from the overall experience by leaving the case feeling slightly unsolved.
If you like dark psychological manipulation, slow-burn mysteries, and detective-focused investigations, then you will enjoy this book.

I enjoyed the premise of the book, but much of it felt rushed, likely due to this being a rather short book. I wanted there to be so much more to the story, but it wrapped up so quickly and so definitively. Had the book been twice as long and really dug into the details more, and made it a bit more difficult to solve, I would have given this another star.

I did still enjoy it, but I have liked other books by Becca Lynne more. The last few pages did provide a great tie in for other books involving Darius (without giving anything away). I really enjoyed that easter egg.

I did receive an advanced copy of the novel in return for a review, but my review is honest.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, no spice


Ooh Becca, Becca, Becca. This. I'm in the narrators head. It's such a fascinating view into the mind of someone who is cross examining every move that people are making.

This is the first of Becca's books I have read and oh boy did it not disappoint. The interview techniques and the detailed psychology was just "mwah, chefs kiss".

There are unanswered questions, but I have a sneaky suspicion the case didn't close. I cannot wait for the follow up and I Need To go dive into the next ones and meet Delilah!

The anticipation of what the story would unfold was great with this book!

Darius and Frank had to investigate a few homicides, only to find out who it was, and who was the true culprit, was a surprise to me. A grief support group brought in broken people, but a few didn't make it out.

The slow burning mystery of it all kept me at the edge of my seat, forcing me to keep turning the pages to solve the case.

Like all of Becca's books, I loved this one and would highly recommend it if you like suspense, trauma and a thrilling time.

The Devil's harvest by Becca lynne is a lot things, it's a thrilling and suspenseful mystery, an exploration of the desperation that makes people join cults but more importantly well written story that can be read in an afternoon knowing what details are important and which aren't with characters interesting enough to quickly get you invested in their lives, it was an honour and a privilege to arc read.

Fantastic detective/crime drama book. It gripped me from the first few pages! Ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next one. I need to go read his previous stories, bc they are hinted at BUT you don’t need to have read any of her other Darius books to enjoy this one. I love the suspense, she put us right in the room with everyone. A church that’s not a church and not exactly a cult, preying on the grieving. Can’t wait to see where else this goes. “The Devil’s Harvest” by Becca Lynne was DARK! Full of deception, manipulation, dangerous spiritual beliefs, and serious cultish vibes. Set around Halloween, this story dives into an organization that preys on people in their grief and uses faith as a weapon to manipulate them.
It’s intense, unsettling, and suspenseful from start to finish and I absolutely couldn’t put it down! Becca Lynne did it again! I absolutely loved this one!

Wow, I loved this book! I wanted to thank Becca Lynne for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC book for my honest opinion. If you want a good Halloween story, this one will be up your alley. Don’t sleep on any of Becca Lynne’s books if you are a fan of thrillers.
