I have this one as a companion to my guide to the night stars. From buying a telescope and what to wear when you're using it (honest), on to a planet by planet guide of our solar system and then beyond, this is a really great and informative reference book. It gives you mind-blowing context to what you can see in the skies above you, it's full of interesting little facts and myths, and a really enjoyable read. I'm guessing not for boffs, but for me, it is perfect.

Awesome reference book. Filled with information on constellation, solar bodies, and images. Great balance of mythology/history and science. Locating formations and understanding the maps can be a bit mind bending but once it sinks in, it makes sense.

Ironically, the summer of planting I bought this for we ended up so far north the sun never really set. So starseeing wasn’t exactly possible. Have used it a lot since and is very durable. Has survived living in a tent and multiple house moves, it’s nice to have quality of product match quality of text.

This is the newcomer astronomical book I would recommend. After reading some of them and trying to invest myself as a very amateurish astronomer I find this one to be the most simple and precise, while giving a strong horizon view of "everything" you need to know. Very useful, educative and well done!
