Coetir: People of the Woods

Rate this book
Beyond the boundary on the edge of town live the druids, the Coetir, a species so deadly that they threatened to destroy our very existence.

We have a law: don't cross the line that keeps humanity separated from the druids, on penalty of death.

I've never been good at following the rules.

My name is Ellya, and I'm the first person to cross the boundary since its creation. What follows will change more than any of us could've possibly imagined.

If you only read one book for 2017, let this be it. It will take your breath away in all the right ways. I received it in my March Box from Indie Book Connect (Cratejoy) - which, if you are wondering, is the BEST THING EVER!!!! - and the cover definitely drew me in. I felt like I could walk into the forest on the cover or at least reach out and touch the trees. Yes, it is an indie book but the quality is the same as a Harry Potter or Divergent (Indie Book Connect clearly knows how to pick 'em).

The cover is just the beginning, however. The story will grab you from the very first paragraph and never let go through the epilogue. The plot involves a human village surrounded completely by the woods, which are alive with druids. The humans fear the druids, even more so when one of their own, Ellya, abandons the village to follow one of the druid males, Elim, in to the woods and abandon life as she knew it. After that, everything changes for everyone - humans and druids alike.

This story is a beautiful metaphor about how diversity can either divide us or bring us together. It is also an epic tale of how love can literally perform magic. This is a book you do NOT want to miss out on.

My first Indiebook purchase.

3.5 stars

First I'd like to recommend Indiebookconnect to anyone out there who hasn't subscribed. Friend them here. They have a great selection of independently published writers AND every book you buy is autographed. I've been pleased with every book I've received.

This book was a continuation of a Celtic series, which I didn't realize, but it read like a stand alone.

The main female character was a clingy, emotional wreck. She did not attract me in the least. Her relationship with the Cotiere male was a little sickening. I was more into the protective flirtation between a member of the elite fighting force and a human woman wanderer. That was more electrically charged and realistic. The birth of a baby seemed superfluous, as did the witch most of the time. I just couldn't get a good grip on her. She needed to be more aggressive.

Having torn apart most of the characters, I still fell for the plot. Searching for our true nature, being forced to meet our demons, learning to commune with nature, supporting those in need- these are all themes we on Earth should ascribe to. We choose not to for the sake of materialism and power.

I'm interested in buying other books in this series. This author is quite promising.

I got Coetir in my March box from Indie Book Connect. At first I wasn't sure what to think because I'm not really a fan of this genre. I'm more of a chick-lit/romance girl. But.... I think that just changed. This book has so much story to it! Every character has a story line but it is easy to follow at the same time. And each character is easy to understand yet complex. The story is about a girl who lives in an isolated human village where the humans are afraid of the druids who live in the woods. When Ellya, the MC, ventures into the woods with one of the druids, Elim, everything changes. When you read this book, your world is going to change too. Be ready to cancel all of your plans because you will not want to put it down for anything!

This book was.... amazing. There just really isn't another word for it. It took me on a journey to explore the woods with the druids and I just got back from my adventure. I feel like I have been really picky with my books lately. I've picked up several books only to read one chapter in just to put them aside and never pick them back up. With Coetir, I kept this book with me in my purse, in my gym bag, etc. I had to have it with me in case I could sneak some time with Ellya and Elim. It was as if the world of the druids was the real world and my world was the fake one. I am really sad this book is over and I can't stop thinking about the meaning of the ending. This book is technically listed as the 3rd druid novel but it is a complete stand alone. I will definitely be checking out the other ones!

This book came in my March box by Indie Book Connect. I never would have guessed this book was indie if it hadn't come in the box.

I can't remember the last time that I loved a book so much that I didn't want it to end. I had to pace myself so that I wouldn't rush to the end because this is the kind of book that you just don't want to put down. I fell in love with Ellya and Elim, the main characters. I am at that place when you finish a book where you feel like the book was real life and real life is the fantasy world. The side story between Saeth and Raichel fascinated me to the point of obsession. I don't want to spoil the story for you but the plot is genius. Everything in the story happens on purpose and leads to the greater meaning. If you liked books like Hunger Games, LOTR, Divergent, or Harry Potter, this is your next great contender.

Coetir is a fantastic read full of mystical characters and wonderful worlds. It is clear who the main characters are yet even the supporting characters are strong enough to capture your heart. Before embarking on your journey with Ellya, be prepared to lend your heart and soul to this book. It is not a read that you can be a part of halfway. It is fully engrossing.

This was such a pleasant surprise! I mean, based off the description I figured this would be a book right up my alley. But I didn't expect to love is as much as I did. And I really did love it a lot. More people should be talking about Coetir because it's seriously fantastic.

First there's the characters. I loved so many of the characters in this book. Ellya was such a strong, complex character. And I really enjoyed most of the others too. Everyone had such a deep and fascinating back story. I'd love a few more books with these guys!

I really enjoyed the plot for the most part too. It was simple in many ways, but at the same time so incredibly beautiful. This story drew me in completely and made my heart melt with joy sometimes and sadness other times. It was so gorgeous.

There were a couple plot holes and a few instances where I wasn't quite sure about why some things had to happen. And the ending felt a little rushed. But, my issues were pretty minor compared to all of the things I loved about Coetir.

Needless to say, I'd 100% recommend this book. I want to give a big thank you to Indie Book Connect for introducing me to this great writer. I'm so excited to read more from Devine!

Great story! It was captivating and full of emotion. I (obviously) took my sweet time reading it, but it was really good. I must admit, I cried.... I have already moved on to Cedwig, which is somehow even more engrossing. Rani is, and always has been, one of my favorite authors.

Great job, Rani!!! You nailed it!

Awesome book! I loved the setting, very evocative imagery. The characters feel very real and have a lot of depth. I'd say more, but I don't want to give anything away!
