Sara Gordon knows better—don’t sleep with women she works with. It just leads to awkward mornings and moving on. But she did and it does. Now she’s in her hometown of Atlanta, looking back at a string of broken relationships and making the same promise to herself on the eve of yet another new posting.

Mikaela Small’s last date set personal and regional records for Worst Ever. On the upside, there’s a plum job opening in her firm, but the competition for it will be fierce. This is not a good time to make an epic mistake, like falling into the arms of the gorgeous new security guard.

This time will be different. Neither of them knows how right they are.

3 1/2 Stars. I enjoyed this, thought it was a decent romance. I found myself liking both characters and feeling connected with them. It's always nice to read a LesFic romance with some diversity. I really enjoyed the character of Mikaela, I liked her hyper-ness, her humor and strength.
I don't always enjoy characters that are the typical "player" that can't do more the one night stands. But I found myself liking Sara anyway. After her horrible childhood, I could understand why she shrank away from relationships. I liked the slow place of the romance, but still thought it was resolved too quickly, if that makes any sense.
What I did not care for was Mikaela's ex. I didn't think she was needed in the story. I also thought there was a bit to much about Mikaela's job. While I did find parts interesting, it dragged on a little too long. I also would have enjoyed another intimate scene or two. Not that I have to always read about sex, I just thought their relationship could have used that intimacy.
I enjoyed this enough to read another book by Watson, she definitely did a good job building her characters.

This is a pretty quick read. It could have been a much better book, and honestly I only really enjoyed the parts where the leads were together.

Sara's family storyline was vaguely intriguing but Mikaela's work drama was overly long and not at all interesting. Her crazy ex was also too stereotypical for me.

The relationship building between Sara and Mikaela was going along pretty well until the end, then it's just wham!, light speed and there was no real rationale for why it happened so quickly.

The book would have been better if less time was devoted to the work drama and more to the relationship. It's probably 2.5 stars, but I give it points for having a POC as a main character, unfortunately character/relationship development is lacking.

Really enjoyed this one -- interesting characters, interesting story. I was really enjoying that at the end there was a little uncertainty. It was totally cleared up in the epilogue so it didn't last long, which was a shame in a way -- it would have been a more interesting choice to leave the ending without the epilogue. I liked both characters and their life outside the romance was really nicely written and kept me reading (except for Sara's ultimate reveal -- which was too fairytale). The downfall of the coworkers was satisfying -- the tragic realism of the struggles that mikeala had at work was nice to read. Even though there wasn't really any threat to her even when she was convinced she was being fired because of the heavily emphasized support by her bosses, it was interesting to see the development of office politics. Sadly it seems all too real that there was no blowback to the gossipers. It saved the story from being too unrealistic (can't say the same for Sara's story on the other hand -- she really was a knight for a supposed damaged person and had a sickly sweet ending that was annoying).

the start really caught my attention. It got my tension and heart rate up and even made me a little scared with the little girl. I was really impressed, wow!!!! Haven't read anything in a while that could get me emotionally that involved. Have to warn you though the part that really impressed me was only those first few pages. But it does give me hope to know that the author can write something that could get an emotional/physical reaction out of me.

The work place interactions was interesting and i was looking forward to read more about those interactions, unfortunately those events and the inner-workings was only discussed skin deep.
The romance was also cute, but the transition from lets-be-friends-first and real couple-hood was really abrupt. We only got some kind of summary of the happy ending.

Tere were a lot of subplots that were introduced that weren't fleshed out enough. It was like OK you introduced this realy interesting fact/story line but you don't do anything with it. With some of those "subplots" the author could've branched this story out to the beginnings of a series. So i was a bit disappointed that she didn't do anything real constructive with those interesting tidbits.

But overall it was a nice read.

Really enjoyed this story about two women, one closed off and not wanting a relationship dealing with a disturbing past and one woman that is dealing with a contentious ex
Really enjoyed this as you fell like you get to know and understand these two women. You get to know their pasts and their day to day lives today. Loved Mikeala’s sense of humor.

Sara Gordon has a new job as a security guard in Atlanta. She's been gone for years, but coming back has triggered nightmares about the loss of her parents when she was a child. But are they dreams or memories? That's what she's got to find out.

Mikaela Small works in the same building. There's a nearly immediate attraction between the two. Despite Sara's promise to herself not to become involved, Mikaela appeals to her on more than a physical level.

The relationship is tricky because Mikaela wants more than Sara is willing or able to give. Because her parents were killed when she was a child and she was raised by a resentful aunt, Sara has trouble with commitment. She's adopted a gypsy, love them and leave them lifestyle. They both help one another through some difficult times and Mikaela wins her trust.

While the ending is more like a fairy tale than reality, it was a enjoyable read. I was particular moved by when Sara saves the woman and her baby during the hostage situation. As she said, it brought her life full circle to when she lost her parents and her unborn baby brother. From that point in the book, I believed that Sara could change and allow herself to finally enter into a mature relationship.
