A car crash, an awakening and a post apocalyptic landscape are only the start of his problems. He's alone apart from a mute companion, there's nothing but wrecks on the highway, and somewhere, somebody won't stop singing. He heard the crash on the highway. But he didn't hear nobody pray.
I'm a Scottish writer, now living in Canada, with more than thirty novels published in the genre press and over 300 short story credits in thirteen countries.
My work has appeared in a number of professional anthologies and I have recent short story sales to NATURE Futures and Galaxy's Edge. When I'm not writing I play guitar, drink beer and dream of fortune and glory.
This is one of the finest tales that I've ever read. Meikle has written some good stuff, but this one has stuck with me. It's sadly no longer for sale. Maybe it's a publishing issue, or perhaps it's now in a story collection. Whatever, it's one of the most haunting stories ever told. For me? It's a classic. I'm just happy that I bought it over a decade ago!
Found my original review!
I didn't hear nobody pray. Dang. This story was something else. I finished it yesterday and my emotions were all over the place. It's bleak, and maddening and so heartbreaking. I knew what was going on, because this is how my mind turns. So, I knew how this would end. Even then, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I hadn't heard this song before so I went to YouTube and listened to it. It's beautiful, but put into context with this story and it changes into something almost unbearable. This may be one of my top favorites from Meikle. Highly recommended.
Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror adventure thriller short story by William Meikle Chapbook Collection book 51 of 53. A very strange story of a man 🚹 searching down the highway for a lost woman 🚺. He is being chased by demons and monsters. The ending brings it all together. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of paranormal fantasy adventure mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 😡😮😁
A harrowing and gruesome horror short story about retribution and justice that is well worth the read. When this writer is firing on all cylinders, and that seems to happen most often in his short stories, he creates a macabre world for the reader that haunts well after the finishing of the final page. Such is the case here. Suspension of disbelief is required, but was easily achieved as I followed along the trail of wicked twists and turns. A new circle of Hell has been created, and it has been paved with Blacktop.
After dying in a car crash, the main character finds himself trapped on a seemingly unending highway....A new twist on the theme of the person who dies suddenly and doesn't realise they are dead yet. The bizarre situation in which the main character finds himself, and his slow realization of what has happened to him, makes this a very effective story. This author hasn't let me down yet!
