The Way in is the Way On is a compilation of the late John Wimber's teachings and writings on life in Christ. In classic Wimber style, he captures the heart of the reader by sharing practical applications from the Bible that result in life-changing experiences with God.
Read first-hand accounts from Matt Redman, Jack Hayford, Robert Schuller, Carol Wimber, Jackie Pullinger-To , as well as many other Christian leaders from around the world who have been impacted by John’s life.
Discover John’s passion and zeal for Christ through this collection of his writings and teachings on Jesus.
John Richard Wimber was a musician, charismatic pastor and one of the founding leaders of the Vineyard Movement, a neocharismatic Evangelical Christian denomination which began in the USA and has now spread to many countries world-wide.
In this collection of teachings, John Wimber demonstrates intellectual humility and a dynamic relationship with God. There are golden nuggets of insight throughout this book. The most outstanding thought for me is that musical worship on Sunday is simply the expression of all the worship that had been going on during the week: "I believe that when we gather and express our worship, it is all the expressions of love and devotion that have gone on before that make worship meaningful".
Chapter 7 & 8 where he talks about the biblical metaphysics of the spiritual realm with Satan and his demons and the idea that we are at war was potent and worth re-reading in my opinion.
Chapter 9-10 will be a good challenge to the average evangelical Christian who either holds a positional or practical cessationist view. Wimber carefully outlines how we can use the gifts of the Spirit to heal in order to point to the Cross and also how to handle the "disappointment" of a healing prayer "not working" as we like. He also warns against the abuse of these gifts.
As you read this book, you get a feel that John was probably a really kind hearted guy who loved God with all his heart and soul.
This was one of the most fun books I've read in a long time. And I think I genuinely love Jesus more after reading it. I don't attribute that necessarily to the book, but anything I've ever read by John Wimber makes me more filled with faith, and this is no exception. What a cool, average guy that God used in amazing ways! I can't wait to meet this guy one day in heaven. This book was kind of an overview of a lot of the values and beliefs that came out of the vineyard movement/revivals of the 80s and 90s.
Enjoyed this one. Some great reminders about faith in there. The formatting was a little bit weird on the kindle edition. Would probably recommend reading some of his other books first before diving into this one.
Really interesting book about the history of the Vineyard. You might want to skip the odd chapter but overall it’s a good read. It all depends on whether the subject matter interests you.
