August 4, 2026The idea for The Safe Room came to me after reading several stories about celebrities and the frightening stalkers they’ve had to deal with. It made me wonder how terrifying it would be to find yourself in that situation without the money, security teams or resources that a famous person might have. How would you keep yourself and your family safe when someone was determined to get close to you?
One of my favourite parts of writing this book was the relationship between Amber and her sister, Honey. Their bond is complicated, painful and full of history, but there is also so much love between them. I really enjoyed exploring everything that had pulled them apart and the things that might bring them back together.
The Safe Room will be available on 10th September 2026, and I’m so excited for you to meet Amber and Honey. I can’t wait to share their story with you!

Peter has created an isolated life for Amber where she limits her daughters activities for fear Peter will do something creepy.

Denzil has all the elements for a stalker storyline. This story leans on the slower side. I prefer faster paced stories with darker elements. I started to lose interest since the situation with Peter became redundant. Amber is crippled by paranoia of the unknown. Even the reader is experiencing the unknown about Peter because Denzil has not provided us with his point of view. I think the story could’ve benefited having the stalkers personal thoughts in the chapters. Showing him as unhinged would add an element of danger that I’m not getting from Amber’s point of view. She’s carried this with her since she was fifteen. It’s stunted her growth which is carrying into her adult life.

What I don’t understand is how Peter got away with stalking when it is defined as a repeated pattern of unwanted behavior making a person feel afraid, threatened, or unsafe. The story was okay. It could’ve been better had the emotional turmoil been turned up a notch.

And the abject terror of knowing the police can seemingly do very little to stop someone who is determined to find you? That got under my skin. The years of relentless harassment don't just affect Amber either. They seep into her marriage, her relationship with Honey, and the entire family dynamic.
There were moments when I was reading this alone in my bedroom late at night and feeling decidedly uncomfortable with the idea of someone watching from somewhere I couldn't see. The author does a great job of showing how prolonged trauma can reshape a person's entire existence, while the dual timelines slowly reveal just how deeply Amber's past has followed her. This one made me look twice at the shadows and think about how terrifying it would be to never truly feel safe in your own life. A genuinely unsettling read that reminded me that sometimes the most frightening monsters are the ones who simply refuse to leave you alone. Overall I’d give this 4.5 stars! I really enjoyed this book, I’ve never read a stalker thriller before and I was so pleasantly surprised!
This book follows a family and follows Amber who from the age of 15 is being stalked, threatened and completely ruins her families lives which is told in ‘before’ chapters and her current life with her daughter constantly looking over her shoulder.
I loved the earlier chapters in this book when Amber was 15 and being stalked by Peter, some of these chapters were absolutely terrifying. The author does an absolute amazing job of bringing reality to how scary being stalked can be, Peter completely ruined a full families lives. The earlier chapters with Peter were honestly more frightening to me than the later chapters when everything happens in the safe room. This was a real page turner and really does show how stalking is so real and can be so scary and how sometimes, there’s nothing than can be done to protect victims.
I really enjoyed the current timeline that this story shows, it was gripping, so entertaining and I found myself on the edge of my seat near the end! This really was a great thriller and a definite author I will be reading more from!
My only criticism-
•the ending felt a little too fast paced for me, I was shocked when it was the epilogue I would’ve loved some more ‘after’ chapters and to have seen some kind of after for Amber and Honey too.

"The Safe Room" is a book that stays with you long after the last chapter. Following Amber's journey from teenagehood to adulthood, the reader follows a story of stalking and what it can do to family and social circles. It was only after a few chapters that I found myself saying "oh no" as I felt the menacing vibe begin. What began as a simple friendly encounter quickly turned into a substantial amount of years of survival. When Amber isn't dealing with this, she has to live with the psychological result of it. I could feel her exhaustion and pleading for a normal life. Her family is distant, and despite Amber trying to be open about the situation, she is nearly always met with side-eyed judgments and a lack of friends.
I highly recommend this book to anybody who likes thrillers that border on psychological horror for the people involved. If you describe yourself as an empath, this book will give you an emotional roller coaster for sure!

I loved how the story takes us back to where everything began, allowing us to see what happened to Amber when she was just fifteen years old and the devastating impact those events had on the rest of her life. Moving between the past and the present made the story even more powerful, as we see Amber struggling with memories and experiences she has never truly escaped.
And one thing I will say…
Don’t be fooled into thinking the past stays buried.
Because the past has a nasty way of raising its ugly head when you least expect it.
The tension throughout this book was incredible. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I was questioning everything again. It’s dark, gripping, emotional and completely addictive.
If you want a thriller that keeps you on edge, gets your heart pounding and has you turning the pages with sweaty hands because you NEED answers — pick this one up!

Amber at the tender age of 15 agrees to a date with her mums friends son Peter who she has grown up with. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable as the date progresses Amber rejects his advances which Peter does not take well. Instead of respecting her wishes he becomes utterly obsessed with her but to what lengths will he go to make her his?
I loved this taut, unsettling, atmospheric psychological thriller and found it impossible to put down. If you give this book a go I highly suggest cancelling any plans you have as trust me once you've read that first page you'll be well and truly hooked.

This story was intense and told in dual timelines by the main character. The locked-room aspect reminded me a bit of When They Find Me by Carter Wilson.
I did predict a few things, but there were also some revelations that surprised me. This wasn’t really the typical type of thriller I usually read. It was more about the tension and the constant back and forth surrounding the stalking than big twists.
At times, the story started to fizzle out for me because of that back and forth, but it stayed intense throughout. I’d recommend this more for readers who enjoy tense psychological thrillers rather than books that rely heavily on twists.

This book was great, fast paced and exciting. When 15 year old Amber rejects the attention of a boy she barely knows, she never expects that he will make her life hell for the next twenty years. He turns into a stalker, showing up where least expected, watching her every move, taking pictures of her. Sitting outside her house all night watching her bedroom window. Police and restraining orders do little to help. In defense, Amber moves to a high security house, which also includes a safe room should she and her daughter ever need it. And comes the day when they do. Will it protect them as it is meant to...or will it become a trap?

I absolutely love Sarah Denzil, and this book was no exception! From the very first page, I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the way the story moved between the past and present—the different timelines added depth and kept me wanting to know how everything would come together.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced thriller that keeps you guessing and feels like something you could watch unfold on TV, this is definitely one to pick up. Sarah Denzil never disappoints!

This book follows Amber, who when she was 15 years old went on a date with Peter, for the next 19 years she will regret that date as Peter becomes her stalker.
This book kept me hooked, a true psychological thriller. Set over a then and now timeline, we get a true feeling of the extent of trauma Amber lives through.

This book follows Amber, who when she was 15 years old went on a date with Peter, for the next 19 years she will regret that date as Peter becomes her stalker.
This book kept me hooked, a true psychological thriller. Set over a then and now timeline, we get a true feeling of the extent of trauma Amber lives through.

We're introduced to Sophie and her family on two timelines, and as the story develops we understand where her feeling of unease comes from. The plot is clever and it reveals just enough as you read to answer some questions but also leave you wanting to read more. There's a pretty epic plot twist at the end that ties it all up together in a lovely bow.

What a roller coaster ride this one was!!! Amber accepted a ride as a teen from a nice stranger. She never felt safe again. For nineteen years, he was always there, watching, stalking, calling. Finally, she feels she is safe. A new house, security system, safe room. But, is she safe?
This is a must read, it had tension and suspense throughout the entire book! I couldn’t put it down!

“The silent child” is one of my all time favorite books so I was thrilled to read Sarah Denzil’s new book. The premise was right up my alley and I was not disappointed! Peter has aggressively stalked Amber since she was 15 and we get a dual timeline between then and now.
I flew through this book in about a day as I couldn’t put it down. So much tension and anxiety as I waited to see how this escalated and what would ultimately happen. Great story!

I received a digital ARC from the author's team to read and review. I loved this book. I had trouble tearing myself away to go to sleep. The story unfolded over 2 different timeliness, past and present. I had no trouble following the 2 timelines and they worked perfectly together. The book is fast paced and definitely something I would recommend.

Absolute cracker of a thriller. Great pace which kept me engaged. I really felt invested in Amber's story. Loved the complex family dynamics which played out over the dual time line which worked really well. A very crisp ending which felt satisfying. Thanks to the author for the copy

Wow I ❤️ Sarah Denzil books but this has got to be one of my favourite ones! This was an early copy and im so pleased I got to read it. This seriously is a brilliant book. Loved the storyline and the characters every page kept you hooked. Definitely one to read when it comes out.

I loved this book. It had me hooked right from the beginning! I enjoyed the 2 time lines of then and now. The middle was a tad slow but I was dying to know what would happen. Definitely recommend this book.
