The first Anne Tyler book and certainly not the last. A riveting family saga, which seemingly, at first, is a typical mundane family. When Tyler explores the thoughts and back stories becomes a tale so involved and interesting, it's hard to let the family go.
I loved the writing as is is reminiscent of Maeve Binchey, Alexander McCall Smith and all the writers, who can weave an interesting life tale. Another "new" author to explore.

I’ve been a fan of Anne Tyler for many years. Her books are always well detailed and thought out. I enjoyed this book, but it did leave me with several questions about the characters...I wanted to learn more about them! Like -Nora’s background, and how she met Stem. More about Abbie’s and Red’s youth and what were the circumstances surrounding Junior and Linnie’s death? How did Red and Merrick react to their parents death? What about more info in Denny?? How did Red fare in his new apartment and what happened to the old house? I admit, I listened to this story as opposed to reading so I may have dozed off and perhaps missed some clarifying info. (I tend to listen to it in bed before I go to sleep....I don’t even remember Jr and Linnie’s wedding! Was it addressed?? So, although I enjoyed this, I was somewhat disappointed when it ended with too many strings dangling, and me still asking questions.

(Reviewing this summary book, and not Spool of Thread book itself.)
This book is a disgrace. How did this get published? Incomplete sentences. Meaningless sentences. Wrong character names. Wrong words. WHAT THE HECK? Read the description - that's a taste of the whole book: "They are the folks of four kids." That's supposed to mean the the are parents of four kids. It goes on and on with these queer phrases and words.
