It is time for Angeline to be mated and she has little choice in the matter. That is because it is her mother who is responsible for matching Alphas with good potential females. So she is determined that her daughter be matched with one of the most eligible bachelors around.
That man is Clyde. Strong, handsome, dominant and, most importantly, LOYAL to the woman he wants.
Angeline is about to discover just how much she really needs an Alpha in her life. The only problem is Clyde is not so sure he really needs Angeline in his life.
Can Clyde learn to want and love Angeline as his mate? Or is Angeline set to forever be the Alpha's “Unwanted Mate”?
WARNING: Containts scenes of an adult nature RATING 18+
There were just way too many inconsistencies in this book. I didn't really get a good feel for the plot or characters. Any of them. It was ridiculous. The concept was good, but execution poor. This is my first to read this writers work and most likely last.
This is a re-read. I really hate it when my past self fails to take the time to jot down a few sentences, so I can remember forgettable books. Based on my rating, I didn’t love this one and that is still true. The concept is a unique take on mates, although I really like my true mates, but there wasn't much in explaining/world building. Werewolves have become inbred and sickly, and discovered that human women are compatible to breed their future litters. Angeline’s (h) mother works as a sort of matchmaker to match the human women with the shifters. (I guess they were just kidnapping them before) The human girls are part of a club/group that are aware of shifters, and know that one day A's mom will pick their mate. This part is a bit fuzzy. How are the girls selected? Do they have a choice?
The title is misleading because although Clyde is reluctant to find a new mate, (his died the past year) he doesn’t reject Angeline. He actually tries to get to know her, but A has agreed to the mating with ulterior motives. She hates the matchmaking program and has entered as a spy to gather dirt, and convince her mother to shut it down.
I had a few issues….First, I hate this plot device (when one of the MC’s is a spy trying to take the other down) but it also didn’t work here, because Angelina came off as judgmental and borderline hostile to a widowed father of two disabled kids. It just doesn’t work to be standoffish to grieving kids, not to mention one is in a wheelchair and the other is blind. The author does her no favors by having her stubbornly remain locked away in the house despite witnessing no abuse, and receiving reassurances from a fellow human. There's also a lot of talk about sharing knowledge, but that really doesn't go anywhere either.
My second issue is the pacing, nothing happens forever…. And this is a short book which makes it worse. It takes until 70% for Angelina to even begin to thaw, and then poof it’s game on. She LOVES him, and wolves are the best!!
Bottom Line- Not the best KU shifter book, but not the worst either. I was bored, and skimmed, but can say that the actual writing wasn't bad. There just wasn’t enough going on, or development for me. It felt like we were stuck in holding patterns for long periods of time, then would just jump forward… repeat.
I hated Angeline's attitude and personality and the way she treated Clyde. She didn't even try to find out if her assumptions were the truth in the beginning.
She wasn't no unwanted mate. Smh. Neither was he to be honest.
This book, was actually good. But the thing is, the description of the book didn't go with the story. Because for one, they wanted each other from the beginning Clyde and Angeline didn't make it hard for each other. She just was cautious of what was going down with the human women and the wolves. And he just didn't want to replace his wife. At the ending when he didn't wake up for awhile, only time he did was when she mention she was pregnant with his pup. That's what got his attention in his sleep. The ending had me thinking he better not be dead. Until she went to the infirmary to check on him. And it's like the main character women in Ellie Valentina books, always save the day while their alpha mate end up hurt.
Ok this book started off with a different concept altogether. Female wolves being weak and sickly. Male wolves having to mate with human women to produce offspring that were healthy. Sad but true. I was a little disappointed. The author used different points of view when writing the story she also used young women to much. It wasn't the alpha who had a problem with the relationship. I don't usually mind different takes on books but this had May flaws. I gave this 2 stars because when I think of wolves... It's their strength, their cunning, and if they have a flaw they make up that weakness with other tuned attributes. So not feeling weakling wolves.
Clyde and Angeline. Kinda meh. In this world, Shifters are a secret and live in villages away from everyone else. Lots of gaping holes in the world building. Shifters have come to realize they need new blood but only mating with humans with dark skin works. So Angeline's mother set up a match making company for wolves and human woman of colour. Angeline herself doesn't think much of this setup and wonders why her friends who have accepted matches are never heard from again. So Angeline decides to accept a match with Clyde, an older wolf whose mate died the year before, in order to investigate. Clyde doesn't really feel ready for a new mate, but his two kids need a new mom... touching isn't it (sarcasm). When he meets Angeline though, he finds that he is actually attracted to her. There's a super evil wolf from another pack, too much violence and not enough romance. It all kinda falls flat really. Why does Clyde care for Angeline? Why does Angeline change her mind??Why doesn't anyone crack a joke or smile???
Story needs work to make more sense. The idea that they needed to dilute their blood to have healthy offspring was kind of silly. The pack as a whole was weak and the little detail about what was going on with them was a flop. Maybe if it made more sense it would’ve been better.
I really tried to like it ....but it needs editing BADLY!!! The writing style was confusing, and some the sentence structures made it difficult to know who was speaking. I would not recommend this author.
Kinda disappointed that there was no knotting in this book and only a few sexy scenes i usually give a better rating but i also feel that this was rushed
With the strength of their isolated pack dwindling because pure wolf matings only produced sickly or handicapped pups and the alpha himself kidnapping a human female to produce stronger children, Clyde strikes a pact with a sect of ethic women aware of wolves agree to provide mates provided no more women are stolen and they women can return if they want.
Clyde lost his true mate and a year later both his younger blind son and older wheelchair bound son are rebellious and everyone keeps telling him to take another mate suggesting Clyde needed a mate and the boys needed a mother. Reluctantly, still grieving, Clyde goes to visit Madeline the matchmaker.
Madeline’s daughter Angeline’s always been again her friends being carted off to be sex slaves and brood mares for wolf pups but she’s smitten with Clyde at a glance and he feels the same. Angeline is fiercely resistant when Madeline suggests she accept Clyde as a mate.
Determined to prove she’s right about wolf cruelty to their human mates, Madeline accepts. Meanwhile, a neighboring pack has been preying upon Clyde’s pack and (naturally) Madeline has is a bone of contention among unmated males. Finally, Angeline learns how true Clyde’s earlier words to her were, that she had much more to learn about wolves than she knew.
Hmmph. Definitely not the usual shifter read and different than this reader expected. There’s a not quite likable lead, a May-December romance, wolf/human hybrids being stronger and more desirable than pure wolf matings and wolves with unhealing bones and catching human diseases to dispute every shifter romance I’ve read. Rating: 3.5stars
Loved the characters of Clyde who comes across as a caring yet frustrated father who is still in mourning for the loss of his wife. Then there is Angelina whose mother has struck a deal with Clyde to bring more human women into the world of the wolf shifters to strengthen the gene pool. Her own daughter though highly sceptical arranged to mate with Clyde so she could find out the truth of these relationship. Both Clyde and Angelina are in for a shock as both under-estimated the other. A great read!!
I will admit the FL kind of made me mad with how she was acting towards the wolves. But I get it, I guess I would think that way too given the info she had. But still. I’m glad it turned out the way it did. I totes did not see our ML as old as he was in the book. I pictured him younger but not like young male age. Maybe like his 40s and very handsome with the description the book gave. Overall a good read.
Quite a few spelling mistakes / wrong words here and there, but an enjoyable read. Interesting. I've not read many of these types of books but the characters in this book were good.
Great paranormal with a lot of action and suspense!!!! And two hot scenes, but it had me tears with the attack on the pack. Clyde is a damn strong wolf that was suppose to be Alpha but he didn't want it so his younger brother Lex took the position. But these two Alpha wolves need each other in this series. This is quite different from the usual paranormals I've read. The male wolves that have pups with female wolves the kids are usually sick. Clyde was mated to Lelia and they have two pups one is in a wheelchair and the other is blind. The pack came to the conclusion years ago to have strong healthy pups they need human mates. So for quite a few years males would just up and kidnap females and mate them. Clyde pact isn't like that with the exception of the Alphas mate so he knows of a woman that had ties with a wolf long ago who eventually sets up mates for the wolves. Angeline thinks that these rules of growing up knowing eventually your going to be pawned off to rut and leave civilization behind is absurd. What she doesn't realize that it's nothing like that. This review may be a bit confusing but it's hard to explain without giving everything away. I think the only thing I was missing in this is if the male wolf mates with a human is it for life and she can live as long as he can or just her actual life span. I may of missed it in the book. Other issue is the aging process. Other than that I think this was a great start to a new series for me to follow and a new author for that matter. Look forward to more from her.
I consider myself a sucker for paranormal romance, but after reading this book (sorry) I ended up getting confused. I give it 3 stars rating because 1. The plot is somewhat interestingly original, not the usual claim-the-mate, pack-rivalries-war kind of story. 2. The character has its potential to develop somehow, but it has a lots of loophole, like you wanted more but it is not there. Plus it is disheartening to read deaths of pups/children specially the death of pregnant Samantha, Angeline's childhood best friend whom one of the reason she agreed to the mating match. She wanted to see and talk to her in the wolf settlement but somehow it did not happen in the story. And I found the ending so rush like I said I wanted more but it is not there.
Angeline has been waiting and watching as her mother matches young women with shifters. She never hears from them once they leave for their mating and worries about just what these women face. She hopes to avoid a similar fate. Clyde is not what she expects. He is older and not foolish like so many of the young wolves she has seen. Her mother believes they would be a good match. Clyde lost his mate and the mother of his two children and hasn't been interested but Angeline catches his attention. With a push from his Alpha, he is ready to try again. I like that it is not your typical storyline in that Clyde is an older wolf shifter with a lot of experience. His children are disabled and that is a new twist to and one that makes a new relationship more challenging. The characters are well-developed and it would be interesting to see more stories featuring this pack. I received a copy in return for a honest review.
Clyde did not want another mate Angeline didn't want to mate a wolf. However upon first meeting each other there was an instant attraction That is until Angeline realized her mother wanted her to meet with this wolf Angeline feels that the women are being treated horribly because her friend left the year before with a promise to keep in touch. she has not heard from her friend nor any of the human females that have went to Marry the wolves. Angeline excepts the offer with the intent of finding out just how badly the women are being treated. Just as she begging to see she Angeline excepts the offer with the intent of finding out just how badly the women are being treated was wrong, tragedy strikes
