Lots of info to pre plan for your trip and add to the excitement of going. Beautiful pictures. But be sure to leave it at home. Won’t need it on the trip, just extra bulk.
The Complete African Safari Planner covers Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana, Nambia, and Kenya. With colored photos and detailed descriptions of what each region and park has to offer, the guide covers safaris from luxury to shoestring. Among the many features are charts of seasonal access to parks by month and where to find specific animals; recommendations based on considerations, such as, if you would like to bring the kids and specific animal encounters; and a safari planning timeline starting six month before your trip.
I wish this guide had been more useful. All of the parts I use the most (maps, index) were lacking in this book. The descriptions of places (cultural sites, restaurants) were accurate, but not cross-referenced with corresponding maps. I don't think this is too much to ask. Other travel guides routinely do these things well.
Really good guide to some of the key safari spots in Africa. Well organised into 'must sees' and 'nice to haves', good safari etiquette and helpful chapters covering the city bases that will provide most with their gateways to adventure.
Read in several stages as preparation for my own current safari adventure, this is a highly recommended guide if any of the titular places are on your route.
