'Your lives are in danger...leave the hotel before it is too late...'
When newlyweds Clarice and Cliff Thorley arrive in the little French town of Tourville-sur-Mer for their honeymoon, the last thing they expect to find is the corpse of a wanted jewel thief in their hotel room.
Nor do they expect to find a stolen diamond necklace worth over half a million Francs hidden in their luggage. Somebody wants to get hold of that necklace very much. So much, that they are willing to kill for it.
The police make slow progress, and when Clarice and Cliff receive an anonymous death threat, they realise there is only one way to reveal the truth. They must set a trap for the killer...with themselves as bait.
This exciting crime novel is the third in the 'Clarice and Cliff' 1930s Golden-Age-style series by the author of the popular 'Reverend Shaw' mysteries.
This is the third in Morrison's Clarice and Cliff series and sees our titular leads tying the knot and heading off on honeymoon to France. Of course crime follows them there - in the form of a murdered jewel thief in their hotel room. The French police seem to them to be making slow progress and determined to look in the wrong places so they take it upon themselves to try and solve the crime. I don't like this series as much as the Rev Shaw mysteries but this was a light, easy read even if I had the rough outlines of the solution figured out fairly early on. I don't know if the fact that I've been listening to the Miss Marple series has made me a bit fussier at the moment but that can't be ruled out as a factor in my opinion on this one. Still I liked it the most of the books I'm writing about here today - and I'll be keeping an eye for the next one and they're definitely a better than some of the other Golden-Age-style mysteries I've read recently.
