Skylar and Brinay Williams are the true definition of “sisters from another mother.” The product of an extramarital affair, Brinay has always been the outsider in her father’s family. When her mother dies unexpectedly, Brinay seizes the opportunity to put some distance between herself and her painful past. A change of scenery seems to be just the cure Brinay needed as she soon finds herself on the path to real happiness-excelling in medical school with the man of her dreams by her side? Her life is shaping up to be picture perfect-until she discovers just how much love her man has to give. Skylar has always been a daddy’s girl, and when Brinay pops up as the prettier and more likeable outside child of her parent’s marriage, Skylar makes sure to let Brinay know that she’s a non-factor, just like her side-piece mother had been for their father. Skylar is the epitome of spoiled; she moves through life flaunting her wealth and looking down her nose at anyone that she feels is beneath her–that is, until she meets Dontie, who’s the complete opposite of her upscale lifestyle. Despite his thuggish ways, Skylar can’t resist the sexiest man in Miami, so she jumps at the chance to be his wife. Little does she know, he takes “keeping it in the family,” to a whole new level. My Sister’s Husband takes the reader on a wild ride and shows how some familial ties can never be broken, even between sworn enemies.
Oh my word! The plots, twists and turns. Women are a hot mess. Men cheat but a woman can do it so much better and that ish is scary!!!! But this book was full of it all. I was skeptical of the title when I first saw it but it sat in my to read que for a while. Im glad I did. This is a must read.
There were too many coincidences and nonsensical decisions in this book to me. Towards the end, it turned into a Lifetime Movie where things you knew wouldn't really happen, did, just for shock value. I also didn't particularly see how Dontie was such a good catch to begin with seeing as how he was a lying cheater from the very beginning of the relationship with both sisters and just got more and more stupid as time went on. Ugh... I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it that much either.
I was disappointed because I felt like I knew what was going to happen because of the Prologue I mean I read it because I thought maybe I would get more information on how Sky and Tae will end up I mean she should've have known what was up at the wedding but whatever I am curious to find out how part 2 will be though I needed a little more drama Ambria but good job
This book had a good story line There were inconsistent in the the story such as time lines and errors. I look forward to reading more by this author and will be reading the next book
This book just makes the world seem too small, to have all of those connections crossing multiple states is just insane. The book could have been shorter if so much detail wasn’t given (in depth info regarding the character paying for clothes etc).
I was all here for the foolishness even though a lot of times I gave it the side eye. A few things just didn’t add up and low key pissed me off. Now explain to me how Dontie is a “street nigga” but sat and did NOTHING when Skylar escaped the mental facility, waited in the limo after his wedding, said she was going to kill his bride while pointing a gun at her, got in a fight with her in the limo, dropped the gun, then they eventually got it again while fighting. The street dude sat frozen while his bride was in danger and didn’t move until a shot was fired. Huh? Ok and tell me why the dad allowed his wife who he knew from the beginning was cheating in him and the child that wasn’t his to abuse his biological child and do nothing? And before Skylar really lost it her hands were shaking with the gun, Dontie handed her papers and nobody thought to hit her or knock the gun out of her hands before she ahot her Mom, understandably, but why shoot the dad who took care of you and was not obligated? Ugh, I could've been ok with the other events if Dontie did something in the limo, other than sit and watch. And why did they give Dontie so much energy like he was a good guy. He literally cheated and lied from the beginning and then married a girl he didn’t want to marry to try and go back and fight for the girl he loves.
If you like family drama then read this book. It’s messy, petty and has a twist like no other. I was skeptical at first. The title kind of had me thinking this was just another ghetto story. But nah, she put in work on this one. There is no way to review this book without giving away spoilers. So I’m just gonna tell you READ the book.
This Was Good. The Characters Had Me Yelling At Myself While Reading. This Stuff Actually Happens Everyday, But Reading It Is So Much Better Than Being In That Situation.
This book was good up until the final hospital scene where all the secrets were reveled and everything that followed. Everything became a bit farfetched. It was a little too crazy to believe.
I listened to this as an audiobook and this was a wild story but it was good! The narrator was okay! Very inconsistent story line that made me confused at time! To much back and forth from past to present to past with no direction sometimes
Where do I begin, reading the sample I was intrigued. Thought ok something different, and sounds interesting. My attention wavered. A lot. Here we go reasons why one star.
Multiple character POV. Each POV was separated you knew exactly who was talking. I’m ok w/m.c.pov when done that right way. But why did every character needed an entire chapter was beyond me. All we needed was the main character Brinay, Sky, Donte. Not the best friend the cousin and the brother, they were highly irrelevant.
Was this book sponsored? Because I couldn’t figure out why I needed to know the brands of their body wash, deodorant, sneakers, lotion, perfume. Or why they went to forever 21 and Walmart.
There was way too much detail that didn’t need to be mentioned. “I stepped out of the shower, grabbed a towel to wrap around me then went to the drawer to grab my bra and parties. I put on my bra then stepped into my parties”..... I stepped out the shower and got dressed. See? Easy.
Flash backs are supposed to be quick not multiple chapters taking five minutes to read through.
I began skipping a lot. And the book refused to end. By time I ended I had to laugh. This was a 85 car pile up. The beginning held you captive then eventually you had to go cause you had stuff to do. I ended the entire book only because some moments it got back on track. Story concept was great. Delivery was a mess.
This was a pretty cool read for the most part, and the beginning of the book definitely started off with a bang. The reason I gave this book 3 stars and not 4, was because of some of the continuity issues it had. For example, Dontie says if he would of met Bri before Sky, things would be different, but somewhere in the beginning Sky states they have been only dating a year, and Bri says she had been dating him for a year and some change. So it confused me, cause if I'm going by that, it seems like he met Bri first. Then towards the end of the book Sky says they have been together for almost 2 years, and I was confused again. There is also a part in there where she puts 2 entirely different ringtones for the same person. At first the ringtone was you and I, then she said it was always in my heart by tevin cambell as few sentences later. The story was still good though, so my rating is more of a 3.8. I didn't really care for too many of the main characters. Dontie was a dog, Sky was a bougie trick, with grimey ways, and Bri just pissed me off with the way she was going about things. I did like Chance and Kourtney though, they was the only ones keeping it real, and being true friends. To sum everything up, I enjoyed the read despite those hiccups I described, and will be tuning in for the next installment.
This book was easily read in one sitting. Brinay, a lady who isn't about the business of running after or nagging a man, learns that she's pregnant Meanwhile, Sky, a lady who was brought up with much more attention and spoiling, is in Jamaica with her brand new husband. He's not exactly an over the moon happy newlywed, especially since he married her for ALL of the wrong reasons. Drama unfolds as Brinay begins to recognize that something strange is going on with her child's father and Sky begins to get a little cranky about her new husband's lack of interest. There are some twists, though, as Dontie, Sky's husband, didn't consider that his wife may have skeletons of her own or that Brinay may not be as willing to forgive as he'd anticipated.
The writing here is superb. The story flows easily, the characters fit together nicely, and there are no errors that take away from the ability to enjoy the book. The story is complete, but there is just enough of a cliffhanger to leave readers wanting more. I look forward to seeing what else happens with this mixed up family and the new baby. Hopefully there's a part two.
The premise of the book intrigued me, but reading it was a chore.
The timeline was all over the place. It starts in the present, then drops into the past to work it’s way back up to present, but then randomly drops from past to future in disjointed sections. It was hard to follow at times.
There were several continuity errors regarding Dontie’s description, when each relationship started, things Dontie and Brinay discussed in various settings, etc.
Another mildly annoying thing was describing these people as well off enough to buy Jimmy Choo and Rolex, buying multiple large properties in Miami etc, then consistently making them use Walmart level body products like Caress, Degree, etc. Are they rich or not?? Maybe that’s petty, but for me, if you’re going to put an emphasis on this luxury life people live, do the research into the luxury products their money can buy.
Omg how would you feel if the dude you’ve been dating not only cheated on you but married one of your family members. You only find out because you’re invited to an event where they make the announcement. What do you do?
Well find out what happens in My Sisters Husband. What happens in the dark always comes to light. You never know who’s watching you. Treat others how you want to be treated. How you treat someone May come to but you in the ass and have you helping some tour of way of they treat you the same way.
This was a great read filled with drama and it kept me entertained.
Ok. The narrator and the male character brought the ratings down a notch. Her voice was not bad for a narrator but what killed it was All that unnecessary yelling and mispronouncing names throw me off. Not enough to abandon the story, some narrator’s will make me stop a good story. Dontay was a stereotypical black male character which irritates me . A few things you can tell were thrown int the writing without thinking. Like the evidence of Dontay relationship with Brinay including a paternity test. How ? When they never too a test. Anyway the story was entertaining enough to keep me interested so was ok.
Really Enjoyed this book. Binary was really working my nerves cause she be acting childish as Hell. Sky was just low down as they come. The verdict is still out on Dontae because he was dead wrong but I believe that he really do love Brinay. This was really a good book from start to finish just waiting on Part 2
This was a good read minus all of the mistakes. An author should really read an re-read an re-read again to make sure there aren't as many mistakes as I have found in this book. Other than that, the storyline was good. I pray Brinay and Dontie are able to work it out for their sons sake of she pulls through.
I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely a must read. It was great from beginning to end. I can't wait for part 2. I can't wait to see what's going to happen. You did it again Ambria. Keep up the awesome work.
I liked this story and the way everything unfolded had me going crazy. I can't believe that it ended like that I can't wait to find out happen. I would suggest you read this cause its crazy.
