Fury Verse #2

Blood Code

Rate this book
I’ve spent years hiding in plain sight. The Russians call me a ghost. A myth. A monster lurking in the dark.

Good.

I am taunting Severin Volkov. I am hunting him. But the closer I get to crossing his name off my ledger, the harder it becomes to remember why I’m supposed to hate him. He should be my enemy and my final victim.

Instead, he’s becoming my greatest weakness.

⸻

The Ghost is no longer a rumor. Every lead points to a woman who shouldn’t exist. Every answer uncovers a new lie. Someone is manipulating my organization from within, feeding information to our enemies and staying one step ahead of me at every turn.

I will find the traitor.

I will find the Ghost.

And when I do, I’ll make them regret they were ever born. But as old secrets surface and loyalties begin to fracture, I’m forced to confront a possibility far more dangerous than What if the woman I’m hunting is the one person I can’t afford to lose?

BLOOD CODE is book two in Volume 1. It is a dark mafia romance featuring a female serial killer, enemies-to-lovers tension, and obsessive romance.

Hazel St. Lewis is a Dark Romance and Romantasy author. Diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, she struggled to read and write, but fantasy stories inspired her to start storytelling. Unfortunately, now, she is a little too obsessed with morally grey characters. When she isn’t writing, she can be found playing with her hoard of cats (too many to count…it’s a problem), singing songs to said cats—like Cinderella—or painting.

Gosh, this was kind of exhausting, and it isn’t even over, like wtf! There are more books in this series (all the others after this one are unpublished), and I was kind of over the story by the end of the first one.

For a while, I felt like this was the Mindfck Series* reincarnated. Truly, the author was going in that direction, before she fucked everything up badly!

So, the FMC was forced into human trafficking (prostitution) after the MMC’s father basically kidnapped her by faking her death so no one would come looking for her. He also made her believe that her family and the MMC were behind it. But let me start from the top. The MMC’s family and the FMC’s family are part of the Russian mafia. The MMC’s father was the Pakhan at the time, and I believe the FMC’s father was his right-hand man or something. Because of this, the FMC and MMC grew up together and eventually fell head over heels for each other (although the MMC seemed more obsessed with the FMC than actually in love with her).

On top of that, the MMC’s father hated the FMC from the start and believed that she was doing nothing but damaging the MMC. He actually slapped her around several times as a kid and also made her train like the rest of the boys in the Bratva were trained. His hope was that she would get killed this way, and when she didn’t, he tried to have her killed. When that didn’t work, he finally managed to make everyone believe that she was dead by blowing up a restaurant and then kidnapping her and forcing her to become a sex slave in some kind of cult.

He was the first man in a very long line who sexually assaulted her, and after that, it just kept happening until someone high up in this cult decided that she had to die. So he killed her by drowning her, and she came back as a ghost (a Fury), whose sole purpose is to kill every single man who touched her in that cult or who was responsible for her ending up there. And at the top of the list was the MMC, whom she believed was the one who ran the cult and put her there.

Crazy, right?

The story itself wasn’t bad. It was actually quite interesting. But it became crazy when the FMC, as a ghost, had a part-time job of saving other victims, trying to get revenge on everyone who wronged her, trying to ruin the MMC, and trying to scare everyone.

On top of that, she could turn into a human, and while she was human, she was unrecognizable from her previous human self. So she was playing the MMC and was currently believed to be part of the Irish mob. So right now, she is even engaged to the MMC. And she is also a computer whiz who is helping the MMC solve a lot of riddles within the Bratva and figure out what his father was up to, because there is a lot of suspicious activity surrounding that man.

Yeah, this was kind of crazy.

But I kind of lost it when the story kept jumping between the past and the present. Half of the first book was just throwbacks to the past, and I was just so not interested in reading that! Like, I couldn’t care less about how these two were and behaved as kids/teenagers.

The worst part is that the MMC was a manwhore before he and the FMC became exclusive. So he would fuck everything with a hole, and it was described in the books because the FMC would stand in a corner and watch him while he was with another woman. And she would get turned on by it. And his explanation for all of this was that he felt so deprived because he couldn’t have the FMC, and he was so obsessed with her that he would fuck anything, trying to ease that feeling.

Yeah, no thank you. It just kept leaving me disgusted! 🤮

Then there were the other time jumps, showing when the FMC was incarcerated by the cult. Those were important and explained everything that happened, so I didn’t mind those. But it was truly exhausting reading about the FMC and MMC during their late teens and early twenties. Especially the MMC’s sex life. It was just so obvious that the author was trying to fill out the book so she could lengthen the series and probably make more money from it. Just so bad!

Otherwise, this story had potential. It was good! But like I said, I hated the time jumps. I’m also not that big of a fan of paranormal elements in books. I tend to stay away from reading that kind of stuff. Here, it was okay, but at the same time, it was kind of weird!

Yeah, I don’t know. By the end, I just wasn’t a fan of this story. It was dragging, and it was just so annoying that it kept going in circles. The FMC as a ghost and as a human (in her previous life) shared so many attributes that it was seriously concerning how no one literally put the pieces together and figured out that they were the same person.

Especially her family, who was seriously a disappointment throughout the entire book. Like, her twin, wtf?! And the fact that everyone was basically acting like normal even though someone in their family had died. I know it had been years, but still, give me some sorrow! It honestly felt like they gave zero fucks!

So I’m gonna stop reading this series with this book. It felt like we got nowhere!

I’m unfortunately giving this one 1/5 ⭐️

It was just too messy.

I don’t even know how I’m going to write a review without spoilers😭
BUT CHAPTER 19🤌🏻🥰
So much happened in this book that left me speechless.
One, the fact that the first chapter was a flashback of her realizing what happened to her and wasn’t allowed to process any of it. That was heartbreaking because this poor girl was alone. What I still don’t understand was how the other homegirl KNEW!?
Two, we get introduced to another character who I thought was Severin but turns out I was played. We all were! But this man was mean. Because how can you involve Neeve in this sick twisted plan of yours.
Three, my poor baby girl Neeve. What she went through was so heartbreaking😭 NO ONE NEEDED TO SEE WHAT SHE WENT THROUGH BUT THEY DID😭 The aftermath of that was gut wrenching because she deserved her privacy.
Four, KAZ!! I am in love with him and he is the best friend ANYONE can ask for✨
Five, Severin keeps surprising me. In a good way. From the flashbacks to the present, he really is a gentle giant when it comes to Xeniya💕 The ending was CRAZY AND PLOT TWIST!

In book 2 finding out that Xeniaya actually died and instead was a fury kind of took some of my excitement away for the story. Book 1 leads you to believe she survived and it made her revenge all the sweater. Knowing she died and is now supernatural just lost some of the edge for me. The story still is well written and I finished it because Im still hooked on the mystery aspect of the story.

Second book in the series and the cracks are forming (in the best way!) This one ripped me apart so many times, but I couldn't put it down! The pages drip with devastating pain, lust, hope, and heartbreak.
Please read the triggers before you pick this one up!

I was hooked after book one, but Blood Code has me firmly obsessed. Hazel has crafted one heck of a story full of twists, turns, unraveling, heartbreak, and goodness, I hope we eventually get some healing.

I cannot wait to devour the next books!

Ugh, it does not end with book 2 😭😭😭. Why??? The internet was so misleading. This series is very good. I said with the first book that I don’t like mafia books that much- it is irrelevant- there is so much more to this series. Highly recommend to dark romance fans.

5⭐️ 2🌶️
It's 1 a.m., and I CANNOT put this book down. I was hooked from the first page and tore through it in one sitting.
The suspense is relentless, I can feel the story racing toward something devastating, and I'm honestly scared to find out what it is. I have a few theories about what's coming and I hate that I have to wait to find out if I'm right!
I love a good revenge plot, and this one brings in elements that feel fresh and fascinating. The atmosphere is witchy without being witchy, creating this eerie tension beneath everything. And Xeniya's stabbing personality has me giggling. 😂
This is book 2 in the series, and it does come with a lot of triggers, so check those before you start. I'm not sure how many books there will be, but whatever the number is, SIGN ME UP!
