Minimum Viable Manager addresses a problem too many organizations have normalized: people are promoted into management and expected to know how to manage.

Sadly, they don’t!

Matt focuses on what managers need to DO to be effective. The guidance is specific, practical, and immediately applicable. He focuses attention on real behaviors managers can learn, practice, observe, and improve.

He reminds us that employees experience management through behavior and that employees are smart. Their experiences affect their performance directly.

The book also raises an important question: How much management failure is development failure?

Minimum Viable Manager provides a practical foundation for closing that gap.
New managers will find clear guidance they can use immediately. Experienced managers can use the book to examine behaviors they probably no longer question. Leadership development professionals should pay attention to it for another reason: many of the capabilities organizations describe as management expectations need to be explicitly developed rather than assumed.

This is a useful, practical book about the real work of managing people.

It also left me reflecting on this:
Before we hold managers accountable for managing people well, how well have we prepared them to do it?
