USA Today Best Selling Author, HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
I haven't read a book that pissed me off this badly in a looong time. If you want to read about a girl who is desperate and doesn't find it embarrassing to throw herself at someone who rejects her over and over and over again, who literally loses the will to live when she loses him, and a "hero" who is a complete and total ass, well then this is the book for you. ********** The rest of this review will contain minor spoilers, but if you want to know why you should stay away from this story, read on. *********** I love Beauty and the Beast and had higher hopes for this one. Unfortunately the beast was nothing more than a jerk who was whiny and could only feel sorry for himself. He couldn't even TRY for a relationship because he was too afraid of being rejected because of some physical imperfections. He was horrible to Blue over and over and over again and she just kept pushing for him to love her back. Tuck couldn't be bothered because he was too busy whining and feeling sorry for himself inside his own head and was such a disappointing lead. He kept pushing Blue away until she got attacked and almost killed, then he was all love and sex until he threw her out AGAIN like a piece of garbage (this scene made absolutely NO sense and the book completely fell apart from this point on ).
Now let's talk about Blue. I have read so many books about pathetic girls, but she is almost #1 on my list. She meets a guy who won't talk to her, kisses her and then treats her like the plague and wants nothing to do with her besides maybe a one nighter and hey, she just can't stop thinking about him. If this wasn't bad enough , once he throws her out like a piece of garbage she goes to the exact same spot she got attacked before because hey, her life has NO meaning anymore without Tuck and she wants her attacker to finish her off. What in the actual hell?!?? But life without Tuck just isn't worth living I guess. Not only that but she quits her life dream and becomes comatose and dispondent. Seriously, this book reads like what NOT to do when looking for or dating a guy.
Furthermore the chemistry and even the sex scenes were not sexy AT ALL. They were clunky and seemed more like he was impaling her than actually doing something that would feel good. Add in the never ending comments from Blue about her beauty and the never ending eye rolls and slut shaming between her and her roommate and you've got the complete package.
Not to mention the last portion of the book is so ridiculous and over the top and then what happens is only spoken of in vague references so you don't even truly know what happened. Top that off with a horrible epilogue and you've made it even worse. You literally go from hating Tucks guts to all of a sudden a happy life with Blue with no in between of him actually proving he deserves her. No thanks. Like I said, I hated this book. Words could never be strong enough. I wish I could go back and scrub this book completely from my brain.
TITLE: Blue AUTHOR: H.J. Bellus GENRE: Contemporary Romance PUBLICATION: June 16th 2015 MY RATING: 4 STARS
Will add more to my review later
This is about an annoying female characterBLUEand a douche bagTUCK
Beauty falls for the Beast
I freaking luvs this author so when I saw this pop up on my newsfeed I had to go one click this fukka..love this authors humour that she without fail brings us..This is so easy to get into, love/hate Blue the female character, love her one liners, the thoughts that race through her mind are priceless..Wish I could steal her parents and claim them as mine, the father is hard case, who says half that shit that pops out of his mouth..lol
The man is straight muscle with an asshole attitude
As soon as Blue laid eyes on the shy guy Tuck it was instant attraction, time and time again she would try and convey her feelings to him, but time after time he would always push her away, things take a turn for the worst whilst Blue is out on a nightly run and Tuck drops all barriers and takes care of her whilst at the same time baring himself to her, scars and all, a touching encounter of what made Tuck into the man we read about in this book will have your heart melting and thoughts of douche bag disappearing..
Tuck ~ Dark, mysterious, bold, built like a brick shithouse, there's no finesse or grace to the man, brown hair, stubble, and melts my panties and pisses me off more than anyone I've ever met in my life.
Once Tuck let his walls down I began to love the chemistry between the two, a bit of sexiness thrown in added a good combination, loved the different aspect of the story being that it wasn't the female character that was a virgin but the male character and that added to the uniqueness of the story..
His face is so chiselled, and even at a distance his masculine beauty is overpowering. There is something about his deep, dark brown eyes that flips my tummy..
"...“I’ll be right back.” Sophie cracks the door and rushes across the way to the bathroom, and I can only guess she’s cleaning up or stitching up. I’m not quite sure what you do after sex..." I'm really confused now. What would you stitch up? Your vagina? Wouldn't this statement imply she's a virgin? Nope, apparently not. But, why would she not know what you do after sex?
"...“Slightly,” I respond, as my knees sting like a bitch in heat..." Why would a "bitch in heat" sting?? Odd.
81.0% This is one of those books where the heroine describes her OWN beauty the entire book!!!! *bangs iPad on head* ...my toned legs, my defined body, my long legs, my tan legs, my perfect hair... My vomit in my mouth!
And if she was valedictorian why did Tuck have to do 90% of her freshman homework?
They "fuck like bunnies" (unprotected) three times before he says "did we just make a baby?" Hmmm..... WTH??? No one thought to have this talk prior to the third time.
If she compliments herself about her own beauty one more time I'm going to kill puppies!!!! I find the writing obscenely choppy & juvenile in sentence structure. The sex scenes are REDICK!!!! She made the comment early on about not knowing what Sophie does to clean up after sex, but then if that's the case she never tells her dude that before he impales her w/out any preamble or warning. So, I'm guessing not a V, but why the dumb naive bullshit then. There is really zero elegance or heat in the sex scenes. The just "fuck like bunnies". I'm at 81% and probably roll my eyes more than her!!! #godspeed
Oh Lawd! I paid $3.99 for this!!!! NO!!!!!! So tempted to return for a refund, but I begrudgingly won't.
This is a new adult romance with beauty and the beast themes. The story is entertaining and suspenseful at times, though the twists at the end came a little out of left field. Honestly, the plot had more holes than a block of swiss cheese. Blue falls in love with Tuck almost instantly, despite barely knowing him. He does his best to push her away, because he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her. A lot of the plot development is because of silly choices that Blue makes along the way. I mean, I get being a carefree teenager with no care for your safety, but when literally everyone is saying “don’t run at night” and “there have been attacks in this area at night, so stop running at night”, and then you get attacked at night, maybe stop running at night? One thing that’s quite annoying is that the blurb for the book revealed what happens only 54% into the story. Up until that point, I was just waiting for it to happen so I could find out what would happen next. Honestly, I didn’t really feel for either the hero or the heroine of this book.
We had two reviewers read this book, and they had differing opinions. Our star rating is an approximation of their thoughts, so read on to see what they both had to say!! That's books, right?
This one was 6 STARS for me!! <3 It truly was a modern day Beauty and The Beast, with so much emotion and passion that I couldn't put it down until I read the last page. Yes, that meant losing out on sleep but it was SO WORTH IT!!
Definitely one of my favorite reads for 2015! <3 ~ Kara, 6 stars

Blue is a golden girl. She’s beautiful inside and out, and no matter how she tries to blend into the tapestry of her college campus, her light continues to shine. Tuck is dark and mysterious and withdrawn from society. Blue can’t stay away from him. Tuck can’t bear to let her near.
When a life altering event happens to Blue, Tuck lets down his walls and the two finally get together.
What’s behind Tuck’s walls was the most fascinating part of the book for me. I almost would have rather had the life altering event happen earlier in the book so we could spend more time exploring Tuck’s history, psyche, and emotions. I loved Tuck – the damaged, wounded warrior.
I was all over the place with this book and, likewise, I felt like this book was a little bit all over the place. Aside from Blue, Tuck and Noah – I didn’t find the characters in this book very likeable – and even Blue and Tuck had their moments. The interactions between Blue and Tuck were sometimes stiff and unnatural. Blue was trying too hard and Tuck had too much of a hair trigger.
It’s a fascinating premise, and there were facets of Tuck and Blue that I loved and found myself completely drawn to. The ending was satisfying, if a little abrupt. Again, I felt like there were avenues to explore before everything was tied up in a happily ever after bow.
While this was a bit of a mixed bag for me, in the end it was an entertaining read. ~ Shelly, 3 stars
Pretty fast into this book I realized this is one of those New Adult book...
This book made me so ugh.... Characters: The heroine constantly tells us how pretty and hot she is, so much better then anyone else. She falls a lot. It's not cute and can NOT be used as plot so many times. NO. Maybe she should check her cerebellum. She throws herself constantly on hero. And yep all the collage guys are athletes and hot. Hero is jerk and has multiple personalities no other way to explain his behavior. Side characters are stereotypes ; the mean and jealous girl, sassy roommate, the coach, obnoxious roommate's boyfriend, cute jock friend, an unexpected villain.
Plot line: It's so ridiculous and unbelievable. My eye did the rolling workout the entire time. So she goes to collage and her first day football team "makes" her seat with them and they all are hot and flirting with her but she likes that guy who has no interest, and he constantly tells her no and then she falls million times, has cuts and bruises, then someone attacks her, them hot jerk guy tells kisses her at a party and again tells her no, she is chasing him again, then they do cheer routine at the party and yes they will choose cheer team leader and yes you guess it it is her, blah blah blah.....they have a lot of unprotected awkward sex....and they do it all the time, the writing of those scenes was terrible...then huge plot twist at the end...straight out of some teen drama...she is kidnapped by dorm security guy, the same guy who attacked her and former lead cheerleader, they just took her for three months so she would leave school, the reasoning and were she was....wth.... boom she is suddenly found because Tuck the hero stumbles on some woman/girl on the street who tells him in her vision she is still alive and around somewhere...now I just have to laugh...Whaaat.... Then she is found...they are back together and everything is fine and dandy.... Yeah right...... There are some real issues in this book like scars and burns that hero has and kidnapping and nothing is addressed properly. It is used as prop for plot line. Smh...
Dialogue: It is choppy, juvenile, absurd. They lack substance, transition and common sense.
Overall.....I needed the finished book for a challenge otherwise I wouldn't finished it. I don't understand the high rating but we all like different things I guess....

This review is going to be a mixed bag. I know that some people are going to absolutely fall over themselves to love this book and I’ll tell you why: beauty meets beast, but she sees past the marred skin and into his soul. Honestly, that’s what drew me into wanting to read this book. I am a complete and utter sucker for these types of stories. Probably because The Beauty and The Beast is my favorite disney movie. Ever. Oh, how childhood shapes us. ANYWAY…
I was super into this book if for nothing more than Blue’s hilarious inner monologue and tough-girl antics. She’s strong, tough and knows what she wants. I love that in a female lead character. I was equally as in love with Tuck: brooding, mysterious and reserved. His scars went more than skin deep, but Blue’s love and focus on peeling back his layers to reveal his beautiful heart had me soaring. There’s something about the connection between someone “pure” loving someone “tainted” for all the right reasons that calls to my soul. Anyway, now that we’re getting all philosophical, this book has that in spades. AND I LOVED THAT. The love story between Blue and Tuck was full of anticipation and weakened my knees.
But then there’s the problem with the ending. Things were happening, crazy was going down and then it all just warped speed ahead and then I was reading the epilogue. say whaaa? A whole lot of insanity was crammed into the end of this book like my suitcase on the way home from vacation. I had to sit on the damn thing to make it close. That was the ending of this book for me. Which really sucked, because I loved everything else about it. But you can’t skip over the hard parts of the book like they didn’t even happen and expect me not to notice.
Overall, it’s a beautiful love story that captivated me until the end when I became a little lost and frazzled. 3 stars.
This was my first H.J. Bellus book, but it definitely won't be my last. This story totally blew me away and kept me turning the pages straight through in one reading.
Blue Williams is a smart mouthed, fun spirited, cheer leader, and the kind of girl that everyone wants to be friends with. On her first day at Preston University, she catches the eye of some college football players (dreamboats). As she tries to remain low key to Lane and Ethan for her to eat with them and meet their team mates.... Enter ---- Tuck Jones, running back for the college team. She is instantly drawn to him, like a moth to light.
Tuck is very quite and mysterious and he keeps to himself. He gives Blue very little of his time or attention, but you can feel the pull between them. When he starts to let Blue in little by little his walls begin to crumble. With the twists and turns in this book you will be left wondering if love is enough to overcome dark pasts and personal insecurities.
I absolutely loved Blue & Tuck, but the supporting characters were just as memorable. The dynamic of Blue's parents, Tuck's family, their friends - Sophie, Lane, & Noah was just as important to this story, especially the one-liners from Blue's dad! "I'm a surgeon, not a pussy." LOL!!!!
HJ knows how to pull you into a story and not let go. I read this book in on sitting, it has everything you could want in a romance; lust, drama, suspense, humor, second chances, and especially love. Don't take my word for it, get your copy now and meet Blue and Tuck! <3
This book begin when Blue gets settled in at college. She's going to miss her parents a lot, but she is ready to begin cheer and start her life now. However, when she ends up meeting Tuck she falls head over heels instantly. He, however, doesn't seem to want anything to do with her.
But, as she continues her life and realizes he doesn't want her, she tries to move on, but that gets harder and harder to do when someone seems to be out to get her.
Blue was okay, it wasn't bad or really great, but it was nice to pass the time with. I admit I thought it was good at first, but then I got frustrated with how Blue "chased" Tuck.
Then the stuff that happens towards the end was frustrating too because it was never really explained, and that was annoying.
But, other than those things I did like the book. And I enjoyed how Blue was so dedicated to her sport.
I'm so confused. This went from a pretty kick ass book to a massive train wreck. I'm baffled. The author totally has it in her to have made this a five star read.
DNF. Do people really get the vapors waiting to see if they got into cheerleading at college? I think I've found out what's wrong with America. I've really liked prior H.J. Bellus books, I just couldn't get into this one.
This actually started out pretty strong for me, so I’m a little disappointed to end up at this point. I thought the characters were fun, I enjoyed the ambition, there was some intrigue around the H, but that’s when it started going downhill.
The dialogue got progressively worse (I swear like a sailor but the heroine saying fucking this and fucking that over and over again does not make her compelling) The h constantly throwing herself at H (while he continuously pushed her away and said he wasn’t interested became pathetic This girl fell/tripped/face planted no less than 7 times, and is suppose to be a super star cheerleader The plot between the characters completely fizzled once they actually got together Poor execution of suspension, lacking details and rushing Climax unresolved in every way possible and very abrupt ending Epilogue felt like it was slapped together with every cliche possible
I just don’t know how this happened. It was sitting still at maybe a 3.5 stars until the last 50-60 pages.
PTSD is not something to gloss over or play around this. I honestly am not sure if the author has experienced it or researched it, but I don't think it was well represented. There were points where it almost was, but then POOF! Gone.
I'll forgive the phrase "meat curtain" because the book was funny. However, I'm really pissed at the ending. Really pissed.
I feel it was SUPER How I Met Your Mother-ed: AKA they built up these characters and plot and give you an ending that makes no sense to the rest of the storyline or the characters.
I honestly did not know who this Tuck was that kicked a PTSD suffering Blue out of his house after getting a threatening note was. Like, CLEARLY he knew the attacker was not yet caught. CLEARLY she wouldn't hire someone to take pictures of him shirtless. CLEARLY a large envelope showed up with pictures of them, and no one is the least bit concerned? Tuck? Noah? Sophie? Lane?
Then she just goes missing for a super long time? I forgot how long, I skimmed the ending. And why did the dad have to die in a throw away line? I don't understand.
I'm emotionally distraught, and not in the good way. By the end of the book, I honestly hated every character. Im giving two stars for the first half of the book.
While I loved That Girl by HJ Bellus this is a total miss for me.
I think Blue is a fool. Supposedly smart and looking to blend in. She is constantly telling how hot she is, berating her roommate tongue in cheek and going after a guy who constantly turns her down. Where is the appeal in her. Other then her working out ethics I didn't find any.
Tuck has demons, scars from his past that make him isolated dark and a a-hole. As the story develops you like him a little more each chapter until the last 20% and then personally I hated him.
This book held lots of potential for me for the 1st 80%. A few open ends but the storyline had me intrigued. Then the home stretched started an it was choppy, kaotic, and in my opinion badly ended. I mean come on
This had hope and hope died. I am not bashing or hating. Just in my opinion this wasnt good for me at all.
Have similar tast to me, STAY AWAY. go read That Girl.
I only rate romance that is the absolute worst. Yet, one star still seems like too much. If I could leave negative stars, I would. The "author" has no idea how collegiate sports work, or how college works for that matter. It seems very likely any knowledge of intimacy has been obtained by reading M rated fan-fiction or whispered talks in junior high locker rooms. There are parts that are very over written, yet lack any substance. And there are parts that made be look back to see if I had missed pages or entire chapters. Characters were inconsistent and unlikable. There are some very serious and dark issues addressed in this story. Days of research and hours of interviews would be needed to properly portray the true depth of the pain brought to those who suffer through them. Cramming them all together into a story that compares real victims to such unrealistic characters and situations, is a slap in the face to any burn victim or kidnapping survivor. Had I not needed a book with a color in the title for a challenge, I would have stopped before making it to page 50.
Where do I begin....This an awesome new storyline from Heidi. A lot of unexpected twists and turns. Pay attention to understand the Beauty & the Beast reference. There's just so much packed into this story that you have to pretty much read it in one sitting. Loved the characters, loved the storyline and WOW, what an ending, totally unpredictable. I can't say too much more without ruining the story, but you HAVE to get this book! I think it may be my new favorite now from HJ Bellus!
At first I laughed a lot and enjoyed it very much... I thought it would only be just another story... Spoiler Alert But then I just couldn't stop crying once I reached the final 20%💔 It was devastating
It was so bad: an unhealthy relationship/romance, lots of slut shaming, the ending was very very abrupt and the plot in general wasn't any good as well. Also the main characters were unlikable. The love interest was even repulsive to me because he was such a douchebag.
Would not recommend, I don't understand why it gets pretty high ratings.
I absolutely loved this book! I fell in love with all the characters including Sophie and Lane. Stephie turned out to be a vindictive b***h for honestly no reason at all. Blue and Tuck were incredible, I loved the over protectiveness of Tuck but the give and take was what I truly loved. He would act not interested and then all of the sudden he’s telling her that he loves her. After an attack one night on Blue, she decides to act out, hide and ignore Tuck. This pushes him to prove to her that he wants to be with her and treat her like a princess, she isn’t buying it at first. Tuck, is a remarkable character. He is strong, loyal and a hell of a football player but he’s hiding some scars. Blue was able to love him for him. She never saw the scars or at least she was never bothered by them. She loved the man for how caring and honest he was. This book was remarkable..it had some hilarious moments( I loved her mom and dad along with Tuck’s sister), sweet moments and scary moments.
Okay so I finally finished this book.... It was a decent, alrght ish book for me. I just felt that honestly, Blue was REALLY desperate!! IDK. her character was like in 2 days "ooo i love you tuckk". i mean.. the build up wasnt much and i felt it being a bit unrealistic. also, i was hoping for more time to understanding her while she vanished.. thus..
I loved everything about this book except for the ending. It was abrupt and left me with some unanswered questions. I absolutely loved Tuck and the chemistry between him and blue was hot! The story was not what I was expecting but I was pleasantly surprised.
Blue is an overeager, enthusiastic, optimistic cheerleader. She has stood out her entire life but wants to blend in at college. She is beautiful and obsessed with exercise. Has a huge appetite and does not really get distracted with boys. Well until she meets TUCK.
Tuck is a star football player at college. Gorgeous, chiseled good looks, with the body of a god. Unfortunately under the clothes he is scarred and this makes him lack confidence and not get close to anyone.
Tuck is struck by Blue and they have a friendship that is odd but Blue knows he is there and she feels comfort even if he does not speak.
As they become closer and the demands of a personal, intimate relationship with Blue scare Tuck, he does his best to be who she needs.
Tuck is a sad soul but sweet and loving to Blue. Blue is just happy to have his attention. This book took me by surprise in the last couple chapters. I was like OMG no way. But I kind of liked the surprise. Blues character losing some memories is strange and makes me have all kinds of questions but I think that was what the author was going for. The ending is sweet and sad at the same time.
I liked this book. It made me laugh and choke up and kept me anxiously reading to find out the "who/what/when/where and why" of all the secrets and mystery surrounding Blue and Tuck and the campus stalker. The supporting characters varied from annoying to silly to downright hilarious and the relationship Blue had with her parents was very interesting to say the least. I really like where the story ended but was not completely sold on the motives and means of the "bad guys" here...however I did find the book totally engrossing and entertaining.
**** 4 **** "the beauty lies beneath the skin" stars
