"…they were fascinating, kept me completely engrossed, and had me dying to know what was going to happen next.” ~ Lori’s Book Blog

I’m torn between what I want and what I need. Between the men in my past and the man by my side. Colin has tried to control me, to use me. But he also guards me so fiercely my heart aches.

Raincheck. Business. Don’t wait up. —C

That’s the note he leaves for me, as if I could sit around while he fights my dragons. As if I could let himself get killed in some vain attempt to protect me.

There’s no protection left for me. No redemption either.

This is my battle, and I’ve already lost.

"Dark and edgy…but don’t be fooled. There’s a wonderful love story running through this book.” ~ Charlotte Stein, author of Sheltered

4 Mysterious and Suspenseful Stars

Fierce is book 3 in the Chicago Underground Novella Series

This is a fairly well written and engaging end to Allie and Colin's story. The author gives us more information into Colin's past however there are still things about him that were left unsaid and mysterious. Allie's strength and independence seemed to grow with each book. At the end of this book we are left with a feeling that Allie is a very strong character who is very aware of and knows what she wants.
There was a lot of action and suspense in this book. Every time I turned the page something else was happening.
Once again the writing was not overly dark and was a nice easy read. If you enjoy this type of writing, I certainly recommend this series!!

Collin still didn't grow on me. I felt that Collin and Ally didn't have enough one-on-one conversations or really spend time together from what I read. Collin felt like a distant character for me and not someone who's supposed to be a major character. I still have quite a few questions left unanswered and I'm almost positive this is the end of Ally and Collin's story - other books will follow other characters.

I read all of Alli and Colin's story before I could stop and post this review so this review will be copy and pasted on Rough, Hard, and Fierce. I really like bad boy alpha males. I especially like mob romance stories. The book really didn't confirm that Colin was in the mob but did say something similar but not that organized. Hmmmm not sure what that means. Without giving anything away he is involved in something illegal. Alli has had a rough life and now is a single mother prowling the club for her next rough sex session. That's all men are good for and they never take no for an answer so why say no. She meets Colin but Colin is so different from what she has had in the past. He wants more but she doesn't know if she can risk her heart and that of her 2 year old baby girl.

Alli has a lot of mental issues and Colin has a ton of secrets. The thing about this author is that she cuts to the meat of the story and doesn't give a lot of filler or useless details. That's great most of the time but I would have liked to explore more about Colin. Even at the end it was rushed and I still had questions. That being said I couldn't put the book down even when I was screaming at Alli telling her what an idiot she was.

If you like anti-heroes, criminal type leads, or screwed up heroines this is a great read. Not for the faint of heart because it definitely carries erotic to a new level.

Wow! This was a great end to an awesome series. I started reading it right after Hard, and I couldn't put it down! Skye Warren's writing is addicting. Her characters are so tough, real, and raw. Some of the things Allie has endured will make you want to cry. But, she doesn't let it stop her. Colin has ben dealt a bad hand as well, and he does his best to keep them all going.

We find out more about Colin's brother Philip and he is quite intriguing. Hoping to read more about him in another book. Shelly plays a big role in this story, she has a heart of gold and will do anything to help Allie and Bailey, even if it gets her hurt.

All the secrets Allie and Colin have been fighting hard to keep come to light. And a devastating betrayal may cost them everything they have been fighting for.

Face paced and exciting read, this whole series has been just incredible. I love these characters, and though it's an end to Allie and Colin's story, I know that it's not the end of this series. There are so many questions I need answered about Shelly and Philip, I love when a book has more than just the main characters to focus on.

As always, I can't recommend Skye Warren's books high enough, they are always a must read for me.

For all the novellas that make this story.

In a sense it's the tamest book of hers. I liked the way the heroine grew, but I also sensed the story wasn't that solid. Some missing threads or facets to the characters maybe.
Still a great author if the usual suspects aren't your gig in romancelandia.

Definitely the best book in the series. The one with the most action, drama, sexual-tension and the sweetest ending! I loved it! :) Colin just kept getting hotter and hotter with each page! 5 sexy-stars!*****

Thrilling, sad and soulful. This third part is so full of drama and emotions that I read it in one whoosh. Allie shows a lot of courage, though she's rewarded with all her nightmares coming to life. I absolutely loved how valiant she was, how all the secrets spill out and put everyone, Shelly, Colin, Philip, under the harsh light of truth. And the story made me frustrated with all the longing for Colin and Allie to finally be happy and together, but it never did!

He is one stubborn man. Though that proves how resilient and strong Allie is. She's grown into this brave woman who knows her worth and her heart.

Until that moment when they do realize they belong together and it happens in a way that is so like them, with courage and pain and humour. Oh, this author always surprises me because not one of her stories is the same, but they're always so good, deep, real and haunting.

Favourite quote:
It would be scary to be that drop of rain. To know she was going down, but not know how or when it would happen.

Colin and Allie's story concludes in this book and I'm still confused as to what role Colin plays in his brothers business. You get a tiny glimpse into their background but it's not enough to give you any insight as to how they got to where they are now.
I still don't get Colin and Allies relationship. Why did he leave? I didn't understand his actions at all especially after she told him she loved him.
Just a lot of confusion so far from reading these books.
The characters just aren't growing on me and I don't feel for them like I do with some.

The conclusion of the Allie and Colin story.

So much going on. Fire, dirty cops, motel room, hospital stay and a possible happy ever after.

Love to go on but don't have the time.

We were left at a point in time where Allie had to choose the man she saw a future with or her own family and safety. It’s a tough position to be in, at her age (we forget that she’s still a teenager) and the fact that she’s got a child, that she’s got to make choices that aren’t the smartest and definitely not the most informed. She’s at Phillip’s house – Colin’s brother – looking for information to get a cop to leave her alone.

What happens next is a story that’s a bit of a roller coaster. We watch how Allie gives misinformation in the hopes that it’ll protect her and Colin. We watch how that backfires as he discovers her secrets, and we also see how Shelly gets them all into even more trouble. While it’s not Allie that puts the detectives and cops on the ‘right’ trail, it’s Allie who’s the one blamed for it and has to suffer the consequences.

There’s a trap laid, we watch the warehouse set on fire with people trapped inside and we watch a shootout happen when people don’t trust what side is what. Someone is left on the brink of death and relationships are torn apart.

What’s interesting here is that we see the dynamics shift quite a bit between characters and relationships that we didn’t know existed become something great, bonds that we thought were strong are broken and pasts become a bit of wisdom and window to the future. Add to that, there’s pain and torment since no one gets the ending that they were hoping for.

There’s romance for sure in this story, but it’s more about secrets and emotion – no one trusts one another and that means that we’re going to get a lot of angst. Which i suppose is appropriate given that Shelly and Allie really are like 18-19 years old and haven’t made the most sound choices in life. Not sure what the point of this story is, and I don’t mean that in a bad way necessarily – there doesn’t always have to be a deeper meaning for things, but this one is a bit all over the place in discovering what the narrative is, what the motivation is and what the future outcome should be

WOW!!!!!! That is the first thing that came to mind once I finished this book. A lot happened in this book. And secrets were revealed.

In the beginning of the book Colin is upset that she accused him of having something to do with Tony (the guy that Colin beat up.)

She decided not to betray Phillip because he was Colin's brother and if they came after Phillip then they would come after Colin. And given that Phillip had helped her with the Andrew situation she felt she owed him just a small token of thanks. But, she was not going to let go of the Tony situation, she just needed a little bit more information. She just wanted to protect Colin. So, when the police came around for the information she gave the police a false address.

While the police was at her house he was running off at the mouth and she literally grabs him by the balls and shoves him up against the wall with a knife pressed against his neck. She tells him in order to get the information she has for him no matter what happens he is not to come back there and bother her again. He agrees. After he left she still felt scared but also powerful in a way.

Colin ends up asking Allie about what she accused him of with Rick and Tony. He told her that he said something to his brother about it and Phillip told him that she was an informant for the cops. He told her he didn't believe that and punched his brother. She told him that she had or will she ever tell the cops about him or his brother.

Colin went to have sex with her but at the time she didn't want it. She said no but he said yes. She started to get a little scared but she ended up breaking through and he thought it was her game she used to play, but she told him it wasn't and he stopped but felt bad.

She tried to set it up to where they would be together the night of the shipment so Colin wouldn't be anywhere around the area. After she put Bailey down she went downstairs to get ready for their movie date and could not find Colin anywhere. She finally found a note saying he needed a raincheck and not to wait up. She called and he would not answer. She was starting to panic.
She called Shelly and she told her what she had done and Allie got so upset. She ran to the neighbors and asked her to watch Bailey that she had an emergency she needed to tend to. She knew she should just trust Colin but she wanted to protect him just the same.

She went to where the warehouse was and she seen Shelly scared and looked to be in a state of shock. She tried to send her on her way so she would not be there but she just held on even tighter. They went into the warehouse and someone shut and locked them inside. Then Shelly noticed the fire before Allie. They were trapped. They tried to get out but it was no use. She was banging on the door with a gun trying to break the door knob off but it was not working. Then she heard Colin calling her name and he told her to back up.

After he got them out he thought right then that she was the informant but she told him she was not that she sent the cops to a false address. He ended up believing her but her brother didn't. He spilled secrets about Colin to Allie that was hard for her to hear. When Phillip asked her if she was not the informant who was he looked at Shelly and before anyone could say anything Allie asked him about Tony. That sent Colin in an uproar and he punched Phillip and they started to fight. They decided to hold off on fighting because they heard sirens, but Phillip knew that Shelly was the informant. Allie asked her why and she said she broke the rule.

After the police got there and he told them that they were late because someone gave them the wrong address. He ran his mouth for a little bit and one of the cops pointed a gun at Phillip right at the heart and just as he shot Shelly jumped in the way.

After she was shot they heard sirens again and knew that the good cop was on the way. The other cops took off running and Colin took off after the piece of crap cop who gave the order. Phillip was trying to help Shelly and Allie came to help but they didn't know what to do. The good cop came running up and pushed them out of the way. Then they knew who Shelly had fallen for.

Allie was arrested for the warehouse explosion and Shelly was sent to the hospital. They both ended up in the hospital because Colin pushed Allie down when the cops when to shooting to protect her and she ended up with a concussion.

Phillip came to the house to apologize to her and told her that social services was going to let Bailey stay with Colin. She asked him if he was going to use his money to get her out of here but before that she asked him why he didn't like her. He told her that he thought she was after Colin's money, and he figured out that Colin had never told her about most of his life and where most of his money came from. He laughed.

Allie snuck out of her room to go and see Shelly and the good cop was there, not sure what was happening to her but she ended up spilling her life to him about everything. Later Allie was released due to a witness, she knew it was with the help of that cop.

After Allie got home Colin didn't speak to her but doted on her. It was driving her crazy because he was taking such good care of her but would not talk to her. She woke up one night and during that time she told him that she loved him. He jumped back and left the room. When Allie woke up Colin was gone and so was some of his cloths. She didn't know what to think.

She didn't know if she was going to have to move out or what was going on. Their usual lunch delivery arrived minus Colin's lunch. That showed Allie that he was not planning on coming back right away but maybe it was a sign. She baked a cake and took it to the restaurant to give to him like a peace offering. He acted like he didn't want her there and she asked him if she should move out and he said no that he didn't want her to.

She got tired of waiting for Colin so she decided to make a plan. She called his sister, and if she went according to the plan he should be meeting her at the club very soon. Sure enough here he came and told her she needed to leave. She agreed and when they got outside he told her she was to go home and he was not coming with her. Well, they ended up going to the same hotel as last time. They ended up making up and Colin asked her a big question that you will have to read the book to find out.

I really encourage you to read this series. It is Awesome!!!!

STORY
The first 98% of this installment was just mediocre. I continued to lack positive feelings towards any of the characters or feel their connections. This was especially true for the main characters who have an extremely dysfunctional relationship. Like most couples who have issues in real life, Allie and Colin had zero communication during the first 98% of this series. Finally, during the very last few pages of this installment, they finally speak to one another! Of course this breakthrough also leads to them having some super hot sex then riding off into the sunset to live happily ever after. I actually really, really liked the ending but the first 98% was frustrating.

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Rose Dioro. Ms. Dioro speaks with such a soft, feathery voice that at times it was practically a whisper, literally lowering so much in volume that I often could not hear what she was saying even at full volume. She does put on a performance, not just reading from a script, yet with more experience and perhaps some acting lessons, her performance could definitely improve. I appreciated her trying to alter her voice to differentiate between characters but some of the voices she used, especially for the male characters, were comical! I won’t avoid listening to audiobooks by Ms. Dioro but I won’t actively seek them out either.

Goddammit, you damn well know I let out one or two tears at the end.

I was honestly worried about this final instalment, the previous book wasn't exactly the easiest to go through, so I was fearful of this one. And I'm telling you, these trilogy of books would make a hell of a telenovela, there's more twists and turns than... Well, I don't know, but this shit is bananas.

Allie really shows growth as a character thought-out the story, but always staying true to herself, Colin demonstrates a spark of hope, and in general, the pieces get together, but in a very realistic way, in my opinion.

I cannot even begin to think of counting the series with Shelly, knowing what I know now, but this author has made a sadistic bitch, so you all know I'll be crying like a baby at the zoo.

Yep, we got our HEA! And what an HEA it was. A good story that brought a lot to the table in terms of characters growing and coming to terms with their past so they can have a future. A strong silent hero that has enough of his own demons to write a story about plus a maturing single mother heroine that couldn't have been more broken. It's a recipe for success if an author can pull it off, and except for the fact that this trilogy should have been just one book, the author did all right by it. Lots of spice without resorting to being gratuitous. Great character development. And clean editing. A very enjoyable read!

Quick, Easy read with great characters

Although this series isnt as intense ( in my opinion) as Skye Warren's other series, I still loved it. I breezed through all 3 books in a couple days. They are are shorter easy type reads. I loooved Colin and Allie. Bailey is adorable and Shelley is a funny and great best friend. I hated Phillip until near the end, and then I just mildly liked him...LOL

Partial review

NOT A Dark story, NOT dark criminal THEME.... If anything, it’s ridiculous. You know it’s bad when you find yourself hoping the antagonist catches the girl snooping around. I wanted Allie to get caught and thrown out on her backside by 25% of the story. Shelly and Allie should lose their "girlfriend" cards and move back to their rat-infested, hellhole apartment for eternity. They’re terrible at minding their own business, and the guys seemed completely clueless to their antics.

Loved this one!!!!! Allie finally showed what she was made of and Colin was able to let his walls crumble and give himself fully over to love. I wanted nothing more than for these two to discover they belonged together and settle down as a family. All the drama, corruption and deceit was worth it!!!!

This was so great. So well written, I just wanted to know what was going to happen from beginning to end. Allie and Colin were so sweet. I wish we had his pov too. I loved Allie's character development, she's grown up and begun to love herself so much over the series. It was great!

This one was slightly better than the other two with the explosions and show-offs. Still, never felt the conection nor chemistry between the main characters and they weren't even likeable.
Really disappointed.

I received a copy of this book as the February read of the Handsome Devil Book Club.
