NEW YORK TIMES Bestselling Author Susan Stec loves her Cavalier Buddy, that first sip of AM coffee, the sound her keyboard makes when she's on a roll, 70's rock, chocolate (lots of chocolate), iced mocha, and getting lost in worlds where myth and legend are reality. Her characters are always humorous, usually crazy, and, well, snarky. Oh, and they swear a lot. But don't hold that against them. They mean well...most of the time.

Good book! I loved that it was unique and not a typical paranormal story. Susan delivers a nice paced tale with well developed characters, and an interesting plot. I look forward to more of your books!

A fresh and original paranormal romance

The story is a page turner with engaging and compelling characters. The two main characters are unusual even in paranormal fiction, which adds both interest and a fresh feel to this book.

An original paranormal romance between a wendigo and a doppelgänger. Each is considered an outcast. The wendigo was raised by his human mother and never knew he was different until he killed his first lover in the throes of passion. Marked for execution, he wanders the fringe of paranormal society. The doppelgänger bucks the norms of its community by NOT killing it's double. It actually likes humanity and copies instead of killing.

They meet by chance at a small town diner and continue to find one another wearing different bodies. The wendigo is used to being feared by paranormal society and finds the doppelgänger' invulnerability refreshing. It cannot be killed and makes a perfect companion for a creature that tends to break its partners.

Strange, interesting tale of monster love.

I had difficulty getting through this story, mostly because I never really felt invested in it. I had a hard time relating to the doppelganger, though I did find it to be an interesting character.

One thing that did bother me was the abrupt change that came over "Mother." Mother was determined that her ward follow the rules and not do things the way she was doing them, yet made a sudden change to wanting to help Luna and eliminate the rogue doppelganger. That complete turnaround from one moment to the next really threw me. It didn't seem like it would have happened that way.

This love story seems fated not to work, but it does. I'm glad I read it, but I don't think I want to read more in this "world."

Severely lacking in interesting conflict / enough emotional engagement for the conflict to be interesting.
