The Johnson Sisters

Rate this book
The Johnson Sisters is the riveting story of a close knit bunch struggling to keep the family legacy going in spite of their differences.

Vivian, the oldest sister, has the house, the nice car, designer clothes and money, but no man to share her life with. After a previous abusive relationship, she's struggling with her self-esteem. What will it take to convince her she's worthy of love?

Shauna is the funny, happy-go-lucky sister. Give her a drink and she's content with the world--until one tragic event forces her to face her demons. The revelation of her secret threatens to damage her relationship with her sisters.

Dawn feels like the black sheep of the family, and this feeling is reinforced when her sisters voice their opinion of her upcoming marriage. Will she be forced to choose between her family and her future husband?

Serena is the only sister who has a child, but she's also got plenty of drama in her life. Her child's father already has another crazy baby mama, so he has no intention of marrying anyone. Serena believes love can conquer all, but will love be enough for her to endure this roller coaster relationship?

Phoenix, the baby of the bunch, says she's never getting married. Diva extraordinaire, Phoenix enjoys the life she has, until one of her men invades the sanctity of her home and finds a way to lawfully squat in her home.

When secrets begin to spill and resentments from the past come flooding back, it's a pressure cooker of drama that could leave these sisters divided, and possibly destroyed, in the end.

The most important title I have in this world is being a woman, wife, and mother. I'm so happy to add author to this list as well. I tapped into this passion working in the corporate world for a major insurance company. I wasn't happy in my job and I had my boss who asked me what is something I've always wanted to do. I told him write and from that day on, I've been writing ever since.

My debut novel My Man's Best Friend was published in 2012 by Urban Book/Kensington Publishing. Each year following came My Man's Best Friend II-Damaged Relations, My Man's Best Friend III-Severing Ties, The Johnson Sisters, and Big Girl's Drama.

Signing with Anointed Inspirations Publishing (AIP) in the summer of 2017, Null & Void was my next book to be released October 2017.

Yes my books seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum but you know what, you only live once. I can write drama. I can write enticing scenes. And I can write Christian. Whatever is placed in my heart to write, I'm going to do it.

I'm a living witness that dreams can come true. So, if there is anything you have a passion to do, go for it. Life is too short not to. For me, this is only the beginning. The sky is the limit and I'm reaching high to get where I want to be.

The was too much trauma and drama in one family….Parts of this story was left unresolved, The characters and story both were underdeveloped….The author included what I believe to be unnecessary drama in order to have the story continue. There were twist and turns in the story that simply presented more trauma….more trauma than any one family should endure. One of the sister’s boyfriend in story was a good guy from the beginning, but then the author surprised us with an unnecessary twist and turn him into a f*ck boy….so unnecessary…to me the author messed up his/her story with the continued unnecessary events for the sake of a long story. I’m not sure if the narrator intentionally miss-pronounced or if the book contained that many errors….where was the audio reviewer/editor? I’m glad this was free with my membership, because if not I would have definitely returned for my credit.

This book was full of drama. There was so much to unpack and a plethora of secrets. I was shocked that some of the revelations didn’t completely sever their sisterhood. The ending wrapped up well but these sisters need therapy!

Generational curses caused by father and affected all five of the sisters. All these sisters had issues with men. Vivian the oldest always tries to be the peace maker but her insecurities contribute to some of her beginning man issues. Dawn the half sister created due to the dad stepping out on the mom had the most demons. Dawn’s mom commitment suicide and Dawn ended up living with the dad, his woman and their children. Yes his woman because even though he gave her five children initially he never married her. Dawn’s mom was a side piece who couldn’t take rejection and selfishly ends her life. Not caring about her 8 year old daughter and what would happen to her. The other three sisters Serena, Shauna and Phoenix have their own deep seated demons. All kinds of issues are plaguing these sisters and they are spiraling out of control and against each other. Will they work it out?

The Johnson Sisters by Tresser Henderson
10h 24m narrated by D. S. VanNiel, 288 pages

Genre: African-American Fiction,

Featuring: Adult Sisters, Drama, Workplace, Virginia, Graphic Language

Rating as a movie: X for strong sexual content

My rating: DNF @ 9% 54:50 Ch. 4

My thoughts: 📱2% 10:15 Ch. 2 Phoenix - They have 5 sisters in the blurb, then MC says she 5 sisters but, "3 girls in one bedroom and 2 in the other," (Where did the 6th child sleep?), finally they name her 5 sisters saying Renée, the second sister died at 16. Sloppy writing out of the gate is not a way to start off the story. I'm going to try to ignore it.
📱5% 30:35 Ch. 3 - I feel like I read this book before, but after pursuing my mind, I think it was Miss Pearly's Girls and just the party scene. I have made a connection, but I'm going to put a pin 📌 in it and decide next week.
📱5% 34:18 4 minutes into Ch. 3 - I know they are not going to spend another minute talking about deep-throating bananas. Is there any story here, or is it just a series of filler scenes?
📱9% 54:50 Ch. 4 - I knew I shouldn't have wasted my time finishing this chapter. It's beyond clear that someone doesn't write what they know. I've never heard of an hour-long selling anything party; the snacks and product demonstration take longer than that. 7 inches is not considered big for that product or in general; women don't talk like this! If you invite your questionable friend to a party after they did that to your sister, you are a trash sister.

Why I quit: The level of disrespect in this book just kept rising. Not just with the characters but for the readers too. You'd think the author would at least visit a sex shop before writing a scene about a sex shop party. The dialogue was terrible and the drama was just tacky. I guess she's trying to be Zane meets Kimberla Lawson Roby but it wasn't cute, there wasn't enough substance in either place. I wanted to finish this one, but between the writing, story, and narrator, you just can't force it. I gave this 8 days, never again.

Recommend to others?: No. I need to start glancing at reviews before I start books. The original cover would have given me pause.

I did definitely enjoy this book. It was filled with so much dramaaaaaa lol every chapter had some new tea to spill. Before finishing I was almost left skeptical and wondering because a few things were still unclear or unanswered by literally everything came together and was explained my the end of the book. I only gave it 4 stars simply because there was a few grammatical errors, but other than that, it definitely kept me interested and I found myself talking back to this book more than expected LOL! If you do like a book filled w drama and lots of twists , I definitely recommend!

The Johnson Sisters were very entertaining, this book had me laughing so hard at times, but just like a typical family these 5 Sisters have some deep issues going on in each of their relationships, they truly need counseling lol.

This would have been a 5 star read but I had to take off for grammatical errors, I would recommend this book.

A story full of secrets and drama. 5 living sisters, Vivian, Shauna, Dawn, Phoenix and Serena. Vivian is the oldest and trying to balance regaining her self esteem and keeping her sisters in check. Shauna, is a sister that has a secret no one is aware of that will devastate the family. Dawn has a different mother, but circumstances beyond her control forced her to live with her father's daughters, and also feels like the black sheep of the family. Serena is the only sister that has a child, but has a lot of drama to deal with as well. Phoenix, the spoiled baby of the family who is single and never plans on getting married, has an ex who ends up as a squatter and get's her to really acting a nut. If you like drama, this book has plenty of it.

There is nothing truly earth shattering with this book but the author did her job, she kept me entertained. Though the story was predictable at times, I enjoyed taking the journey with the Johnson sisters.

Vivan is the oldest and carries the burden of trying to keep the relationship, with her sisters, in good standings. She appears to have it together but we soon learn that you can't judge anyone by their appearance.

Renee is next but we are told right off that she is deceased but she still plays a part in the story.

Shauna is the hot tempered, supposedly fun one that has all sorts of issues.

Dawn is busy trying to keep track of her boyfriend and doing all she can to please him.

Next up is Serena, the new mom, who has her own battles to fight with her boyfriend's babys' mother.

Last is Phoenix, the baby of the family who really to seems to love drama. She is the fashionista that says what on her mind and does't mind backing it up with her hands.

All of the sisters have major relationship issues and beleive they are cursed. They find out your can't have any kind of relationship in the future if your don't deal with relationships from you past.

I'm want to be biased because she is my family but honestly I truly enjoyed reading this book. Although I wished she could have written the whole book about my favorite character Vivian but learning about all of the other sister's secrets was just as interesting.

This was a good book focusing on the relationship between five sisters. There's drama between the sisters, them and their men and well...secrets. If you're looking for a light and intriguing read, this is a good book for you.
