(this review took me so long to write so sorry for how long it is and also if there are mistakes please ignore it. i wanted to write it before i forgot my thoughts and it was in the middle of the night. i was very tired. and thank you for reading:,)

firstly i want say that i truly enjoyed this serious a lot, because of this i want to express my opinion about the series final with more honestly even though i love this series and i wanted the story ended in the best way possible but let me explain myself because my dissapointment is not coming for how it ended than how it became a nonsense. from the series beginning like literally first chapter, the fist pages. i did not expect anything about happy ending. i always expected a bittersweet ending and through out the story i expected maybe a simple happy ending. but i did not expected this nonsense. to me the story itself was revolving around how these two getting over the obstacles to just to be together. because i know their love story was indeed such a forbidden and hard to overcome type of story. so when i start to read them i was literally going through a lot of emotions because it was exiting, it was scary, it was anxious etc. so to me the problem is how this was handled poorly. somethings happend so fast something took a while them to overcome. but it was always made it sense in the context one way or another at least it did for me.

however i think the problem started when they introduce us this mitsuharu. his whole existence to this story is to be a rich guy to find the treatment for satoko. which was very annoying the way they introduce this character and try to make it belivable. kotarou was introduced to us as a love interest but it did make sense because he was a childhood friend who was love her very long time. so to me even though it was anoying still it did make sense why would he would do everything to make her live or protect or save her. what about mitsuharu? he did see her in the island but never try to find her, we never see him in that part of the story and when he come in to the story it took him not even 24 hours to questining her choices and making decisions for her? who are you? oh yeah he is a good and noble person. but you don’t know her. i did not care about this character at all, and i saw it from miles away he is existed because the possibility of satoko finding a treatment.

in the end of it, does him being rich and able to reach every corner around the world changed anything ? he wasa good person too, right. he did say ‘go and live happily with satoko and i will find the cure’. right ? he can find a cure about satoko’s illness but could not find shinpei to tell him about she is alive, for over how many years exactly? you see, everything can be made it sense in the end. but this plot hole is misserably looks like a black hole to me that i can not overlook this at all.

i know there is another way to look at the ending like ‘their love isn’t measured by how long they spent together, it’s how they appreciated every second of it despite the years of separation.’ fine. but give me a fucking good reason for this separation. because this fucking plot hole is ruining every espect off it. tell me, was there any obstacles left for them not to be together other than satoko’s illness at that point? you come here and telling me she overcome her illness but their reason that couldn’t be together was because he didn’t know she was alive. sorry but to me him going and almost un-alive himself and refuse to do that. and choose to fight to live like satoko did because she did for him, she did want him to fight too. so he wanted to do at least for her. him living with no desire and never going back to a place that holds so many memories for him. not going back to that house where he remembers as satoko died in made it more fucking sense then the rest of the things to me. it is so stupid that it is making me mad because as a reader i feel like mangaka making fun of me at this point.

to me if you really want to end this story still like this, give me a fucking good reason why they couldn’t spend their time together that long. you could have so many ways to end this story but not this stupid way. you could have simply made them marry and live happily and fullest even though it was short and she could have been still died in the end. or you could have give me a real and good reasons why they couldn’t spend time together until they got old. it could still made it sense because their story is already heartbreaking, and they could have end up live happily again even though they get older. or you could have genuinely let satoko die and shinpei to live aiminglessly and maybe goes back to their house dies in there. see there are way more beautiful and meaningful way to make this story end with bittersweetness. i would have been happy for any of these ending if it made it sense. yes i am still happy she is alive, yes i am still happy they are together. because i love them so much. to me this is not the worst ending of a story, it is the most stupid way to end of a such a story. i can’t believe i got my happy ending in the most stupid way.

I thought people were being dramatic about the ending being bad, and to a certain extent they areeeee. But yeah I do agree, it’s a bit of a let down. To be honest the whole arc post the island fell a little flat, I struggled to finish the manga in general.

It doesn’t quite make sense to me that Shinpei would leave Satoko before finding out whether or not she was really dead. His character, in general, feels like someone who would have stayed by her body for as long as possible. There could have been a good parallel with him sleeping next to his dead mother at the beginning, showing him losing his emotions and turning into a killer vs him holding and sleeping next to a dead Satoko but not letting his emotions take control of him and live a peaceful life.

Instead, we got a kind of lazy ending that doesn’t make sense, and it’s also kind of boring. A forced happy ending is stupid; it would have been a more beautiful and impactful ending if Satoko had died.

I went into this manga blind, and as I continued reading, not sure what to expect, it kept my attention and curiosity one chapter at a time.

I'm not sure what I think about the ending, there is too much to say but also, it feels concluded. I'll miss those characters very much.

I am officially in my feelings and not in a good way. I went into this expecting to be disappointed by the ending because of the comments, but never have I ever expected this? What do you mean they lived their lives apart for 50 years?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. This felt completely contradictory to everything we know about Satoko and Shinpei. I refuse to believe she would ever give up on finding him. I understand they "tried," but are you telling me it was so impossible to find Shinpei that it took half a century? And Shinpei never stayed until she was buried??? These two are psychos for each other, I do not believe for one second they will let this long of a gap! My tears dried up the moment the logic fell apart.

Honestly, I would have preferred a clean, tragic ending over this. Shinpei turning his life around and becoming a better person because of Satoko’s influence was already a beautiful arc. Giving him a reality where Satoko survives all those years while he isn't by her side is just... cruel. It’s torturous for both of them. I’m choosing to believe that the ending was just Shinpei having one last beautiful dream of Satoko on his deathbed. I’m officially erasing that last chapter from my head.

Everything else, however, was perfection. This is a dark romance lover's dream. Shinpei was terrifying yet deeply sympathetic—a man who just needed to be loved. Satoko was a phenomenal lead; her strength and resolve were the only things capable of changing him for the better.
The chemistry and the high stakes kept me hooked the entire way through. I am so ready to defend these two with my whole heart once the anime comes out! I’m still excited for the adaptation, but I’ll be watching it with a "non-canon" warning for that 50-year gap in my head.

I can’t believe my favourite Josei manga has officially come to an end 😭

I sobbed my way through the final chapters. I knew it was coming, but it still hit so hard when it actually arrived….. But I did not see that ending coming at all!

I can see why it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially since we sort of knew how things would go, but we ended up getting the opposite, and I personally think that’s what made it good. There was growth and longing, which felt very true to the kind of story this has always been 🥹

Sure, seeing Shinpei endure everything he went through was heartbreaking, but I’m honestly so grateful for the way his story was handled. There was so much pain, yes, but also healing by the end. That “light at the end of the tunnel” feeling really stayed with me, and I’m so glad he found his purpose again. yes, IT TOOK YEARS BUT HE FOUND IT AND I WILL TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS WITH NO ARGUMENTS.

What stood out to me most was Tachibana Sensei’s vision throughout the panels. Every page felt intentional, delicate, and stunningly composed. It was truly beautiful in every sense of the word.

I’m going to miss this series with my whole heart. 🥹🫶🏻

went from 1 to 100 on the emotions scale real fast it gave me a whiplash
but hey final thoughts on this series? cool premise and unexpectedly pleasant characters and satisfying development (i say this considering the entire story was based on something i don't really like: disease romanticization), i went in and just assumed it will be a cute love story and it honestly was just that + pain (this last volume was super fucked up ngl), ugh i just wish we got more resolve
overall, i won't be thinking about marriage for a while thank you

second last chapter.

what can go wrong?

i was shocked.........when the blade went through her omg

so much bloodbath and she did it to save shinpei. if he killed the duke's son, there's no turning back.

anyways, its getting sadder now. satoko is getting worse. so he took her out on a boat back to the island so she can live her newlywed/domestic/marriage 'dreams'

dreams are so sad man. because theyre just dreams. fuck dreams.
