Missy Goes to West Point

Rate this book
The US Government's Paranormal Branch has learned Missy's secret and followed most of her activities. They have her FBI friend join their team, telling him that other supernaturals also exist but Missy is the only female werecat. They want Missy to go on to West Point and tell him that "being a vigilante is not what we want for this girl."

But, what had started out as her simply trying to help protect another teenage girl eventually led to her being targeted by both the East Boston and New York criminal organizations. With some help from her FBI friend, she copes with crime bosses while finishing high school and starting out at West Point. She also gets some help from her new friends at West Point but makes some enemies there as well.

Even with all this help and her enhanced senses, Missy sure has her work cut out for her!

What a disappointment, I knew from the first book there would be quite a bit of teenage lust/romance but I didn’t realise this was basically a teenage sex romp. I was hoping for a ‘kickass’ heroine in an action thriller. To make matters worse it turns out that the Paranormal branch of the FBI are just voyeurs. They do nothing but make sanctimonious comments about not hurting murders, drug dealers and gangsters and would do nothing even when they know about a paranormal they are supposed to be watching is selling young women as sex slaves.

I don’t mind sex in books I read, but half of the sex scenes and especially the endless talk about sex could have been removed and the book would have been much better.

As for the rest of the book, I still enjoy Missy’s adventures and I don’t mind that she seems a bit too perfect at times, it’s just they probably constituted less than half of this book.

By the end of the book it became clear I wasn’t the target audience, but I love heroines such as Jane Yellowrock and Mercy Thompson and hoped that these books might have been in the same vein, its just a pity the author hasn’t gone in this direction rather than the romance/lust market.

I really do enjoy reading about the heroine in this book and every time I pick up a book about her I hope the saga never ends. The books are so expertly written that we are brought along on a journey with the main character the reader is hooked on every little detail. In short I love this series of books and would like to personally thank the author for contacting me about them.

The main character is Missy, she is a werecat shifter that has had issues her whole life; in this book we join missy now a young lady with a boyfriend and who seems to be dealing with everything very well. Her whole family know that she is a werecat and so does her boyfriend; she has also been contacted by Robert a member of a government branch specialising in the paranormal which leads her life into an even more exciting venture. Missy is a fantastic character who is motivated by her pure heart to help people even if it puts her in danger. I especially enjoyed reading about how she went through tremendous growth that every normal female has to go through and how she just took it in her stride without hesitation. I absolutely love Missy as a main character and a strong female lead; I also love that these books haven’t taken the same path as every other YA book with a strong female lead in giving them a complication in her love life.

The secondary characters I find most noteworthy are Tracy and Mike; Tracy is Missy’s bunk mate and a follow paranormal I liked Tracy because she offers help to Missy as only another supernatural can in some situations that occur in Missy’s life. Mike is Missy’s boyfriend who learns the truth about Missy and stays with her despite the strain it could potentially put on their relationship; he also stays with her even when she is far away and helps her in all situations.

The pacing and storyline are excellent, this series is not really a one where there is a lot happening but a one that’s only focus is a young girl and her life. I really find these books to be refreshing and realistic and they give the right information at exactly the right time reeling the reader further and further into this fantastic story.

I look forward to reading the next in the series 5 stars.

This is a great follow-up to the first book. Missy continues to learn how to use her abilities. After meeting one of her new roommates at West Point Missy finds that she is not only a werecat but she has other paranormal abilities as well. Missy's uses her abilities to help people and, in doing so, she get's herself involved with the mob. There was some very interesting twists in this story.

The author knows how to write a great story. The detail, imagery and descriptions are fantastic. There are many awesome characters. Missy is so very intelligent and knows how to deal with those that cross the line. She is amazing.

I have enjoyed the first two books in this series and I am looking forward to the next one which I have already purchased. Great story, I highly recommend it for both YA and adult readers. Quick, easy, entertaining story!

Good story

There were a few things that bothered me in this book. Obviously you can't read this as a stand-alone, so when the subject of Missy's two year disappearance is brought up, the author goes into detail once again. But it's with everything, like rehashing Frank McCarthy's story, etc. It got so annoying it had to skip those pages.

Another thing that bothered me where the very long, detailed, pages of sex scenes between Missy and Mike. I skimmed those pages as well. They could have been easily been shorter, condensed.

But the biggest problem I had was the constant focus on Missy's body. For some who have body issues, this might be where you want to skip through these pages, because the character was obsessed with her body. (I was completely fed up with the topic, I ended up skimming through many pages.)

Body image overload

I like the premise of the story but the author's overall obsession with body image for girls is over the top. The author spends more time going over how perfect the main characters body is and the imperfections in every other girls body in the book than the actual story. These books will bring out all the insecurities you have in your own body. If you are a self obsessed person who feels your body is perfect and likes to constantly brag about it, then these books are for you. If you are even the slightest bit insecure about your body, don't read these books.

Really enjoyed it

I really like this authors writing so far. The stories are, of course, a fantasy but enjoyable. I also like strong female characters such as honor harrington, and some of david webbers, female heroins. I find it refreshing that the way she writes about her interactions with the criminal underworld is not marked by a horrible violence retributions.Butchery massacres, which is what would really happen if such a thing were to really happened. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and things to go horribly. Wrong, but thankfully, it didn't, and like I said, it's a good fantasy. I also love cats and married. My wife, who, for forty three years, has been kitty, to me, aka Kathleen. Highly recommend it

If you are looking for a decent tale that has little to do with the real eorld, though seems closely based on it, this series may be what you are looking for.

The writing in this second volume is much less dry than the initial tale, and the characters are speaking more like real people than like writing lessons with perfect grammar. There is more of a human feel than in the first story as well, which is heartening to see.

Did I mention this reads like a YA adventure? Well, it's definitely not, as the sexual descriptions are steamy and detailed without being grossly pornographic.

I'm liking the story and it's inhabitants more as the series progresses.

A lot of potential for this series.

If you enjoyed the first book in this series you might want to start reading this second book somewhere in the middle as the whole first half is a complete review of every incident that occurred in the first book followed by pages and pages of very explicit sexual content before really continuing on with the plot for this second book. I still hope to read book three but hope that it's a complete new storyline and not a review of books one and two. If so, it could be an amazing series.

An Excellent Sequel To An Excellent First Novel

Missy the Werecat goes to West Point as a cadet in preparation for her career in the U. S. Army. Of course, she has problems along the way. Some of the problems sprout from unfinished business with her previous brush with organised crime and some grow from New friends and foes she meets at College. Some problems are as minor as dealing with misogynistic upper-classmen others are as major as meeting and dealing with another paranormal being.

Definitely better than the first book, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. This book didn't try to cram as much into it. As such, it was able to be a little descriptive and actually show emotion. However, it could still stand to be more descriptive, especially when setting the scenes(as in locations not sex scenes). I think Sal's home might have been the only time place details were actually given much thought beyond saying 'at West Point,' 'in a tent,' or 'at a hotel', etc... The writing style is a bit simplistic, but entertaining.

Another totally awesome Missy book! Read it now!

I am extremely thrilled about how great this book is! Missy and her West Point friends totally rock. Plot and character development both continue to just get better and better. Read this book right now, after reading the first Missy book, of course, and you WILL be thrilled and chilled. I am sooo eagerly looking forward to reading the third book in this incredible series! (I was so excited to finish this book that I didn’t even bother to get out of my robe first!) :)

Narrative type of read..

The storyline was different and interesting but the writing was to narrative and robotic. Lacked emotional connection and the characters are told. Everything is told to the reader which makes it hard to be pulled into the storyline. No characters development and
the romance was weakly told. The book cover made me want to read this but the execution missed the emotional pull with overdone telling. Book two was actually worst in telling for sure. Don't care to read a manual type of writing. Even the h was boring and uninteresting. Disappointed..

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible )

Missy has set her heart on going to West Point, so all her hard work since her return from her two year mountain retreat has all been for this goal.
The Mafia thugs that had tried to put a spanner in her and friend's works were just potholes in the road.
However, getting into West Point is one thing, surviving "Beast" camp is another. Missy is moving along, taking her team with her, helping and supporting all of those around her.

More of the same unstoppable Missy the werecat. the best part is moving on to West Point which takes place in the latter half of the book. She discovers more supernaturals and that she is also part witch! The sex is over the top and frankly over done but beyond that it's a fun easy read. I knock it down on stars because the author's style is frankly very simplistic and needs to grow in style. All in all it's an ok read.

Spends too much time explaining things instead of showing the heroine doing them. Very "Mary Sue", in that the heroine is super-athletic, super-smart, super-dedicated, good, kind, resistant to almost everything, heals very quickly, etc. All of that was true of the first book too, but now the author is trying to also add "super-erotic", but doing it poorly. The result is long, drawn-out, third-party sex scenes, that just seem dull. It's simply too far over the top.

Audio book review

Book 2 in the series. , This story is fantastic, lots of twists and it makes you wonder what is next in Missys adventures. Missy goes to West Point ( government ) and not only does she mix with others but she finds she has more abilities not only being a werecat.

Meghan Kelly performance was fantastic. She brought this book to life . You can tell who each character is by her tone .

This author has a strong enough story to stand alone without the graphic "how to have sex) primer for beginners' sex. I admire his heroine that is beautiful at a ripped 150 pounds. The fidelity of the couples is another admirable trait along with Missy's compulsion to do what is right and still keep her sense of humor.

Great story line but all the pornosex crap is vulger!

Allison is a good writer but all the vulgar sex is sickening and why writers can not tell a good story without so much vulgarity is just a way to sell more books ! As far as I see it, it takes away from the story line and just lowers the quality of the writing!!

Great story

I loved this story as much as the first book. The only parts I didn't care for were the explicit sex parts. The rest of the story with Missy being her own person and so powerful in so many ways. She was so helpful to her roommates, and others. I particularly liked how she could hold her own against persons trying to capture her. She is indeed very special.

A fantastic story about justice

Reading Missy the Werecat books made me realize that enjoying a book as much as I have enjoyed both book 1 and book 2, it must be deeply satisfying for the author to create such wonderful stories. Everybody who enjoys reading will appreciate these books.

Missy Goes to West Point

I think this was even better than the first book and I really enjoyed that. It’s nice to see Missy growing into her powers. Her character is developing very well. Secondary characters are also growing and developing. Good story line. Lots of action. Recommended.

Getting better

I finished the first book and thought that the story was good. I had to buy this one to see what happened. The detail of the military life confirmed that I was right not to try it - stupidity and bullying have never appealed and I don't like being ordered around - but the level of detail was impressive. And now I've got to get the next book!

Girls breaking into a boys club.
I have found the Missy books to be great fun I absolutely love them so far. I'll be relistening to them for years to come.
The narrative of Meghan Kelly is also a lot of fun, she makes it hard to put down.
This audio book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

Fun and irreverent

The whole idea of supernatural beings is getting a new look from the author. The female lead heroine is a fun and interesting change of pace. Now the supernatural world view of the author is being expanded to include even more characters and developing plot twists.

Good story but

Whole chapters of graphic sex are a bit much and NOBODY has great sex every time.. Sex is good but it's not a spectator sport.. That energy should have gone into improving the storyline.. Werecats are an interesting premise and so much more could be done with the idea..

But for the excessive sex it would have been a five

The storyline is good. The characters are fine and its an enjoyable read until you come to the porn. I'm not a prude and a little sec is tittilating. But when it starts in this book it covers 5 pages and reads like a 14 year old boy wrote it. Author is far to talented a writer to need porn to make the book interesting.

OMFG!!!

I couldn't put this book down! I just had to see what Missy was going to do next. The part about her meeting Tracy, and her reaction to Missy was great. ( I kinda figured Missy was even more spectacular!)
Can't wait for the next book!!!
