Everyone in Sandy Cove knows that Willow Taylor and Max Vincent are like oil and water. They live to torment one another and if they survive being in the same room together, it’s nothing short of a miracle. Sure, Willow is rich, blonde and beautiful and Max is an achingly hot and talented up and coming rock star—but that just makes it easier for them to hate one another!
Until one night. One drunken night. It was just supposed to be a night of celebration after each of their best friends, Harlow and Cruz, were reunited. But a few hours of civility leads to one night of unbridled, earth-shattering, cataclysmic sex. It doesn’t help that the details are sketchy in their minds because the off-the-charts after effects still linger. One thing is clear…that night changed everything.
From that moment on, sabotaging each other’s hook-ups was their primary goal until a truce is made. A pact. No strings attached, no feelings, just more of what their bodies crave whenever they see one another. They both get what they want and no one gets hurt.
Until someone does. Until love and tragedy gets in the way. The heat between Willow and Max is undeniable but will that spark of desire be enough to sustain them through the pain and heartache that threatens them?

"I became addicted to talking with her and telling her about my day and how the show went that I had just done. I looked forward to finding out how her day was. I looked forward to a 'good luck tonight' text from her or to see her on the screen when I finished a show. I counted the minutes, the seconds even. I wanted to see her face. I wanted to hear her voice. At first it was because I think I was a little homesick, but then...I don't know, Harlow, it became something more than that. It was more than the sex thing. I got to know her and, Christ, it's Willow. I mean Willow and me. Can you imagine?"
If you've read M.R. Joseph's first two books in The Shore Series, noooooo, you really can't imagine Willow Taylor and Max Vincent together. I mean come on, the two of them are like oil and water. They don't mix.
Well, that is until the night Harlow and Cruz get back together and Max and Willow wake up together, naked in his bed, the floor covered with condom wrappers. You get the picture. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) neither of them remember what HAD to be an epic night of passion.
Oh, by the way, if you haven't already read the first two books in The Shore Series, what are you waiting for?? One click them ASAP. Books one and two Giving In and Always In are Cruz and Harlow's story and you can find my reviews of both of them here.
Anyway, Willow and Max decide no one can know about what their sizzling night of sex and of course swear to each other this will never happen again. Only in Stumbling In oil and water actually do a good job mixing because Max and Willow just can't seem to keep their hands off of each other, and their chemistry is ridiculously hot. And have you seen the cover of Stumbling In? Would you be able to stay away from someone who looked like Max Vincent? I know I wouldn't.
As nice of a guy as Max is, he gets under Willow's skin in the worst way. They really, honestly need a friend around them to keep the peace whenever they're together. Then to top it all off, after their night together they go on this sort of pranking spree when it comes to each other. Mostly the pranking happens when one sees the other about to hook up. Hmmmmm...what do you think that means?
Deciding they kind of like the physical part of being together, Max and Willow embark on a secret friends with benefits adventure. Around their friends they're the same bickering children that can't get along and generally need someone to make sure they play nice. When they're alone, they heat up the sheets, or any of the other many places they get down and dirty. Max Vincent is fantastic in bed and he and Willow can't get enough of each other. Not to mention the selfish, spoiled Willow who becomes "a giver" when she's getting naughty with Max.
I totally love Max and Willow. They are the epitome of the adage "opposites attract". Willow is a wealthy socialite. She's very spoiled, very bratty and speaks her mind all the time. Often without thinking with leads to trouble and Max usually being the one to call her out on her thoughtlessness. Her parents are loaded and they both adore her. Even with all of the good in her life, Willow has this hardness about her. She swears she's never getting married and absolutely wants no part of being in love.
Max is not wealthy at all. He was raised by a single dad and seems to have no interest in being filthy rich. He loves his friends and is very protective of them. And even though sometimes he doesn't agree with what his friends do, he has a filter. Something Willow doesn't have. But guess what? Max Vincent doesn't believe in love either. Imagine?
Here's the thing about Max and Willow. They're friends with benefit thing seems to be turning into something more (not that they would ever admit to it). They're both kind of realizing they like to spend time together. They also at times seem to be a little jealous when the opposite sex is showing interest in the other.
Their "relationship" grows when Max and his band with the help of Willow and her dad attract the attention of a music producer and go out on tour. Did I mention Max is in a band? Oh yes, he is, and when he's on stage singing he makes Willow swoon. But don't tell anyone I told you. On his tour, he looks forward to texts from Willow. He makes sure he talks to her after every show.
Then tragedy strikes Willow's life and at a time when she really, really needs Max, he totally bails on her. As likable as Max is...EVERYBODY gets mad at his little stunt and definitely let him know it.
Can Max find his way back to Willow? Is she ever going to let anyone into her heart again? You know what I'm going to tell you. Read Stumbling In. It's really super good. It's hot, it's funny and yes a little bit angsty.
There's more to this story than just Max and Willow. I love the way M.R. Joseph weaves the other characters and their stories into this book. More story lines are coming and I for one can't wait to see what's up next.
I am a huge fan of The Shore Series books. I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore so of course I love anything that revolves around beaches and summer love. Also, M.R. Joseph writes amazing characters. I fell in love with Harlow and Cruz in books one and two and the same with Max and Willow in Stumbling In.
Oh, totally random, I love the way Willow got her name. It's so not typical of what you may think. Willow's relationship with her parents is so special. Hopefully she'll come to her senses and realizes it's ok to love someone with all your heart.
A five lip smack review for M.R. Joseph's Stumbling In. I can not wait for Thea and Porter's story. (Hint, Hint)
STUMBLING IN by M.R. Joseph is Willow and Max’s story and while it can technically be read as a standalone, I’d recommend that you read the books in order since this series follows a very close group of friends which you’ll see book-to-book. Now…Max and Willow. Say what!? Yep. You read that right. What a surprising couple!
“Out of all the people in this crazy world I want the craziest one…you.”
You see, these two despised each other…and were quite vocal about it, too. Their comments towards each other were nothing short of sarcastic and at times, even mean. So Max and Willow falling in love?? No…way. No how. Nuh-uh.
But sure enough, it did happen…. And when it did…..
FIREWORKS. HAPPY DANCING. SQUIRMING. ;)
A drunken night changed them forever…despite them not remembering any of it. They fought and fought the secret, internal urges and desires they had for each other, but really, that fight could only last so long. And that’s when they gave in to the temptation. And again – FIREWORKS. Boy, this book sure got GOOOOOD. Holy cow, was it HOT too. MR Joseph sure knows how to STEAM UP a scene!!! When I say hot, I mean thigh-clenching and squirming kind of hot.
Max and Willow decided that they could “friends with benefits”…if you know what I mean. They could kiss and date other people, but the sex… No. The sex was reserved for them. But then, of course, MR Joseph threw in some angst which had me swiping the pages like a lunatic wanting to read more! Needing to read more. I had to find out what was about to happen… Needless to say, there was a huge chunk of the book I devoured in one sitting.
“Being in love with her – especially her – yeah, I’d call that surprising but I also call it a blessing because dammit, she loves me too.”
STUMBLING IN was a great addition to THE SHORE SERIES and if you’re a fan of this series already, you must pick this one up. If you haven’t started this series yet, then I’d suggest you do so. All in all it was a truly enjoyable read, one I surely recommend!
I loved the prologue! Condoms all over the floor. Woohoo. I think I hit the jackpot!! I couldn’t wait to delve into the story to see where this one night of sex will take Max and Willow. The story begins the night that Cruz and Harlow got back together and subsequently engaged, which is immediately following the first book. It should be noted that Max and Willow HATE each other and can never find anything positive or amicable between each other . They are appalled that they let this happen. It shall never be spoken of again, and no friends will ever find out this happened – at least they can agree on this.
Willow comes from a life of luxury. She is an only child and has never wanted for anything in her life. Her parents have surrounded her with opulent gifts and materialistic items. Willow is shallow. I really don’t know how to nicely coat this description, but she is. Willow got on my nerves like nails running on a chalkboard. I didn’t recall her being that shallow in the previous books, but since this her story I suppose we got to see more depth of her character. One thing Willow does have going for her is she is fiercely protective of her friends. She may become a little harsh in her words when she suspects her friends are making a bad decision, but she does it with their best interests in mind.
Max isn’t from money. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering, but that isn’t where his heart lies. He loves music and is the lead singer in his band. His dream is to become successful making music and he is given the chance to take his band on the road. Go Max! Go chase your dreams. Max also loves his friends and if it means going to war with Willow to protect them from her words, he will gladly take on the attack.
Max and Willow have the most antagonistic love/hate relationship I have ever come across! They don’t want each other, but yet are vagina and cock blocking at every opportunity. Is it to make the other person miserable or is it done out of jealousy? Are their actions transparent for others to see? Cruz plays a good part in opening up Willow’s eyes to what she refuses to see.
“You don’t think I know but I do. I see it without seeing it. I hear you when you think I don’t. If you’re in love with him then tell him before he goes off on this tour and fucks everything with two legs. This isn’t about you two fucking around anymore. I see the way you look at him when you think no one else is watching. I’m the one who can see.”
Oh a tour…possible groupies…angst. I’m in love. But that’s not the pinnacle of the angst…nope. Max and Willow may get their feelings out in the open, but when the L word comes into play, it scares the crap out of one of them, and on a day when an arm is needed for support in order to remain standing the other one is nowhere to be found. Realization of the mistake may come too late.
“I want it all with you and I’m so sorry I ran, but you’re what I want. I want us. Of all the people in this crazy world I want the craziest one…you.”
It may take more than words to be granted forgiveness. Do you remember the 80’s movie “Say Anything” and the grand gesture John Cusack gave with the jukebox on his shoulder?? The grand gesture in this book tops that. Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant.
“I will never hurt you again. You’re my life. You’re my greatest gift, the best song that has ever been sung. I love you.”
Visiting old friends in a series is one of my favorite things. The entire gang was present during Max and Willow’s story, and I look forward to revisiting them again in Porter’s story. In fact, I see the author is planning on 6 books total in the Shore Series and with Max/Willow being #3, we have plenty more chances to see everybody.
"Max hates me and I hate him too. He does annoy the sh*t out of me, but I am strangely attracted to him. When he sings on stage with his band, my panties feel like they will spontaneously combust."
I have been *patiently* waiting for this book. I love all the characters in The Shore Series! Willow and Max are by far the most entertaining!!!
Just by reading the prologue, I was hooked! That was the funniest thing I have read in a long time! "Oh no here comes a baby thumb. Ovaries, take cover." I literally fell over laughing during those few pages. Hilarious!!
Max and Willow have never been the best of friends-they really can't stand each other. But when they wake up in bed together...hungover...and naked, everything changes. Even if they choose to ignore what happened, it still did and they will never be the same.
"Love. It's too confusing. It's messy. I'm not sure I could handle it in my life."
Denial. That's what they both are dealing with. No matter how much they try to stay away from each other, they can't. So they stick to what they know--being awful to each other. Again, it's too funny watching them sabotage each other's "booty calls". Jealousy is a powerful thing. Especially when you aren't expecting it.
"She looks a mess but a gorgeous one. No use in denying it. Too bad she's the daughter of Satan. I will never be able to win Willow Taylor. No matter how nice or sarcastic I am."
Not only is this book humorous, but also powerful in the underlying message of acceptance, friendship, and forgiveness.
Willow and Max are the definition of opposites attract. But how fun would it be if they weren't?! They had different childhoods, they have different future goals, but one thing is for certain, they can't live without each other.
There are events in this book that left me so heartbroken, but I had hope. I would be smiling one minute and be shedding a tear the next. That's how you know a book has reached into your emotions-your soul.
"Second thoughts?" "Nope." "Then why the look?" "No look. I want this. I have no idea why, but I do." "Me either."
They also give all new meaning to "friends with benefits". Lawd have mercy!! I mean anywhere and everywhere. Their relationship reminds me of the song "Dirty Little Secret", because that's what they are to each other. It's a passion they can't contain!
"I will admit being with her, it's becoming somewhat of an addiction. The times I'm not banging her up against the wall, I'm thinking of banging her against the wall. It's insane."
I have completely fallen in love with Willow and Max! Unlikely allies they became and that lead to a romance neither saw coming!
M.R. Joseph perfectly showcased each POV! I felt each of their feelings, shared their heartache, and wanted to shove them into each others arms so fast they couldn't see straight!
"Never thought I'd start to need him until he wasn't here. I never thought it would be him that I wanted."
"Willow Taylor is in every song I sing. Every note I play, every word I write in my lyric book. She's everything."
Goodness me!! This book was everything and more! I loved visiting with the whole Shore gang and to read Willow and Max's story! M.R. Joseph truly has a gift in her storytelling. She hooks me in every single time!
I can't wait to come back and revisit in the next book!
"When you stumble and fall, there's no warning. It just happens. We can't control it and we can't control how others handle the fall. We can only control how we do as individuals."
Giving In and Always In, I loved Willow Taylor. She was the snarky and loyal best friend to Harlow, and outwardly she didn't give a hoot what anyone thought of her. By the end of Chapter 1 in Stumbling In, I didn't like her at all. In face, I might have hated her a little bit. I thought that she was a spoiled, bitchy wench with a superiority complex. I hated the way she referred to Max in her mind, particularly her checklist of why she hated him, and I really despised the way that she responded to Harlow and Cruz reuniting. The further the story went along, the more I thought that she just hadn't found anything in life that made her want to be a better or more mature person. She hadn't experienced loss or rejection in her life. Without either of those experiences, a person is bound to have a chip on their shoulder the size of Texas. Max on the other hand had experienced both. When he was young, his mother took off, leaving his father to raise him. His father seemed to want the best for him, but didn't understand that what was best for him was more than power and financially security. He needed the fulfillment of his music. Without even really realizing it, Max and Willow find their stride in their friendship. They learn that there is truth to "opposites attracting", and that even though they are opposites on the surface, when they let themselves relax, they have a lot more in common than they would have ever thought. Eventually, Willow even becomes not only Max's number 1 fan, but his biggest supporter, too. Through her father, she helps Max and his band gain a spot on a summer tour. Unfortunately for her, he loves as soon as she realizes that she might be in love with him. And she never steps up to tell him the truth. But, if there's one thing that M.R. Joseph is famous for, it's pulling the rug out from under you. Once again, I was silly enough to believe that my suspicions in the beginning were unfounded and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. The happily ever after without the grief. I mean, I only had 30% of the book left for Heaven's sake. And then it happened. SLASH! She took me out at the knees! SLICE! While I lay there helpless to defend myself, she took a machete to my heart! And the whole time I sat in my dining room crying like a child who's lost their favorite teddy bear, I remembered her words. I had shared my suspicions for Willow's fate, and rather than "oh no, don't worry, your heart is safe and so is her's", I got a sassy little "oh, you know me *winky face*". Ok, so she actually sent the emoticon, but I think typing it out has more affect in this situation. But, the best part is that it all worked out in the end. Max and Willow not only found their happy endings with each other, but with their families and friends as well. Once again, M.R. Joseph delivered me a wonderful story with growth and heartache and laughter, everything that makes my heart and mind happy with a story.
There is a fine line between love and hate, a very fine line. So no wonder all those banters Willow Taylor and Max Vincent has was just plain old foreplay. Since the start, their chemistry was already brewing and all it took was one drunken night for the both of them to explode.
It was just supposed to be one night – but the attraction was just too hard to resist and they couldn’t help but just go into it. Sabotaging each other’s hook ups had been their primary goal, until they made a pact. No strings attached, no feelings, just out-of-this-world sex.
It seems that everything was just amazing until Max gets an opportunity of a lifetime. It was a career move, and finally a chance he couldn’t possibly pass up. He’s going on tour for a month. They decided to end their pact – but there’s this supposedly good-bye kiss that changes everything.
Their communication didn’t stop – they continued to talk, and unexpectedly their friendship blossomed, and suddenly there were feelings, and there were strings. The more they talk, the more they get closer and know more about each other. They became friends. It’s almost the other way around with them, but I was glad they found friendship in between. It was such a growth not just in their relationship but in their characters as well. And just when everything was perfect – tragedy strikes.
And it was heartbreaking! Argghhh. I hated it, because someone was coming clean with their emotion, and they found their hearts broken. Someone has to do something to save the best thing that could ever happen to them. It has to be some big gesture, someone has to grovel and beg.
I enjoyed their banters and snarky remarks. It was entertaining watching them. I was just waiting for big explosion that was waiting to happen. I couldn’t help but love this book right from the start until the last page. You can’t help but love the characters and everything in Sandy Cove.
From page one Willow and Max had quick comebacks and snarky remarks. But then again what do you say to the one person that annoys you the most after finding out you had drunken sex with them?
“I’m sure my dick and I treated you nicely last night. I haven’t heard any complaints thus far.”
“Ugh. Gross. I can’t even wrap my head around this, your dick is the last thing I want to think about.”
Soon their antics increased and they reverted to blocking each other with the opposite sex. It’s seems there was some unfinished business between these two. So what do they do? Have sex sober?
“Wills, I got this. Let’s not resort to violence towards my balls or any other part of my male anatomy. Whatever this was between us was just a matter of a ways and means. I was the way and you were the means.”
Willow and Max had a love/hate relationship; I hate you but love to rip your clothes off. So they come to an agreement to only have sex with each other for the summer.
While with the gang they return back to their snarky comments but in the confines of the bedroom they heat up the sheets with their sexual chemistry. It’s their little secret the times they spend alone.
Everything seems to be going well in Sandy Cove until an opportunity arises that Max can’t let pass up. He’s going on tour for a month. Now there’s feelings in the mix and neither know what they are. So they decide to end their deal. But then there’s the kiss that changes and confuses things more.
They talk and video chat daily while Max is gone. Things slowly progress and change; these two seem to mature and grow. They learn things they never knew about the other.
“For the first time in my life I think I know what it feels like. Love. Being in it. My explanation of it: when you can’t stand being away from the person.”
Suddenly tragedy strikes and they are thrown together but when true feelings are revealed hearts are broken. Someone needs to step up their game or they may lose their future.
This story was filled with love and hate, sadness and happiness. The banter between these two was comical. This group of friends is what growing up is all about. You just have to love them and want to be with them in Sandy Cove. The ending was pure perfection. I loved this book from beginning to end.
I look forward to the next in the series and seeing what is up with Thea and Porter.
*arc given by author for honest review* **also reviewing for coast to coast book besties blog**
I enjoyed this book. I stumbled upon this author when I read her seriously fabulous 39 & Holding which is one of my favorite romantic comedy reads of all time. This series is MUCH different than that book. The writing, the flow, the style... this author could have penned this book under a different name and I would have never made the connection. This book was good. It has laughs, steam, crazy antics, and takes on the crazy emotions train that makes it all worth it by the end.
Willow and Max! Willow is the ice queen who has her heart guarded under reinforced steel walls, never letting it free. Max is a musician aspiring for big things in life. Max and Willow do not get along. In fact, they go out of their way to make each other lives miserable. After one epic night that resulted in them waking up in bed together, they realize they do have one thing in common... their time between the sheets. They can burn it up. What starts out as a mutual agreement to scratch an itch begins to evolve into something more. Can the ice queen and the unpredictable rock star find a happy ending with each other or do too many obstacles stand in the way?
Max, I adored him. He was so sweet, sexy, crazy funny, and the hijinks he participated in was hilarious. I laughed and laughed throughout this book.. something that this author brought to life in this book that the other two seemed to be slacking on. And Willow... oh boy! I went from loving her, to hating her, to liking her... yeah you get the pattern. She gave me whiplash at times, but... I was rooting for her and Max to figure it all out.
I am super curious for the next book in this series as it seems it has been books in the making! (:
WOW! First time reader of M.R. Joseph and can I say....where have I been? I LOVED Stumbling In!
Willow Taylor and Max Vincent hate each other. They live to torture each other like nobody's business. If they manage to walk away from being in the same room, it's a miracle. Until one drunken night which led to mind blowing sex. What can two mortal enemies do after the night that changed everything? They sabotage each other's hookups until a deal is made for them to keep doing it with no strings attached. However, the heat turns into feelings and when love and tragedy get in the way, who will be hurt the most?
Lord have mercy, the insults these two slung at each other had me laughing so much. The pranks were EPIC but I did find myself getting upset from time to time, at how intensely they tried to hurt each other because I honestly felt it. I was cheering for them anyway and when the hatred grew into more, I was happy. Of course, when 2 people get on each other's nerves that much, it's not an overnight thing, so I was glad the author let it take time. The story was very well written with a crazy, emotional roller coaster ride. The main characters were highly entertaining that I found myself cheering for to get together. Secondary characters were amazing and can't wait to read all about them in the future. And what can I say about the chemistry except it was off the charts HOT HOT HOT! I have found a new author to love!
Willow Taylor and Max Vincent, the most unlikely coupling for those that met them in previous Shore Series books.
When these two wake up hungover and naked the following dialogue is hysterical, Willow certainly does have a mouth on her. However it would seem that our “little” Max has quite some stamina, if you get my meaning! And he certainly not small in all departments!
What starts out as enemies with benefits slowly starts to seep into their souls, leaving both of them battling never before felt feelings, that are confusing and puts them both on the defensive.
Deny! Deny! Deny! Seems to be the order of the day.
A fabulous opportunity for Max and his band sees him leaving Sandy Cove, but those feelings travel with him.
"Willow Taylor is in every song I sing. Every note I play, every word I write in my lyric book. She's everything."
There is a difficult path for Max & Willow to walk, and for what seems like forever Willow’s stubbornness and hurt win out.
But these guys when they are together, are just so funny, I could fill this review with one liners all day. Hats off to my Darling Miss Joseph for once again bringing us a story that hurts our hearts as much as it makes us laugh out loud.
“This is nuts.” “Yep. But we do nuts good.” “I do your nuts good” “Oh, yeah you do, baby. Last night was insane.”
Once again the gang is all together for the Summer at Sandy Cove. A celebration in honor of Harlow and Cruz begins the story. Their lives are now entwined and they are looking forward to a future where they will be married.
Willow, with her tough attitude, cannot believe her best friend is now engaged to Cruz. She is so skeptical she will ever find love that she is a little depressed. Her outlet as always is to be rude to Max. Theirs is a hate/hate relationship, with all the rude and crude comments that come with it. They are compared to oil and vinegar - they cannot mix. What starts as a drinking celebration ends up with a lost night - they were all so drunk - and Willow waking up nude in Max's bed. OOpaie!
These two characters should just be locked up in a room and just throw away the key. All the fighting is just the foreplay of two stubborn characters unwilling to admit they have deeper feelings for each other. This story is their journey as they grow up and finally recognize what feelings they have for each other. The journey is full of obstacles, missed opportunities, losing loved ones and commitment to fight for what is real.
Once again Sandy Cove gives us the perfect Summer love story!
I loved Cruz and Harlow so much that I didn't think M.R. Joseph could make me love another couple just as much but boy was I wrong. Max and Willow seem to hate each other but that just makes their story so good. I have read all of the books in this series and have found myself wondering how the heck Willow even has any friends but then you see how loyal she is and how she has such a good heart. Max is just hot!! This book of course made me cry as all of her books do, laugh and also want to throw something. This series is a must read!!
I loved the hatred these two had to each other that slowly grew to more. The banter was brilliant as well, sparky and vindictive barbs thrown at each other. The movement between Willow and Max is like two predators circling each other until they decide to give in to each other. Max is loveable, Willow kinda grated on me but she was not i feel supposed to be easy to get along with as then their would not be that opposites attract thing between her and Max. Fun,flirty and great location setting for this series.
I received this for an honest review. I have to say that this book had a little bit of everything which is always great. It has laughs and twists and turns and hot sexiness. This and the rest of the series is an enjoyable read
I just loved the relationship between these two, the oil and vinegar relationship was great!!!
I cant wait to read what comes next from this author definitely a must read!!!
MR Joseph did it again! She creates characters that feel like you know and she pulls you in. Stumbling In is the 3rd book in the Shore Series. Stumbling In features Willow and Max love/ hate banter, which always brings a chuckle. But watching them fall in love was even better.
You don't have to have read the first two books but I suggest you do...This series was great and I recommend it to anyone who has accidently falling in love :)
This book was the best one. Max Vincent is my favorite, I mean seriously he tamed the beast that is Willow Taylor. I loved her character she was funny, sassy and a badass. I am so happy that I was given an Arc.
MR Joseph hooks me again! Something about Willow and Max's story has me filled with emotions. I can't explain it, but this is my favorite book in the Shore Series so far.
Snarky but funny...their insults and bantering were a riot. I enjoyed seeing a parent portrayed positively. Her father was loving, loyal and devoted to his ‘Princess’ and his wife.
Marla : After This Page Book Blog I had the pleasure of beta reading Stumbling In, Shore Series #3! I received an ARC and couldn’t wait to write up a review.
Author M.R. Joseph doesn’t disappoint with this 3rd book in the series, in fact I think most readers will be surprised at Willow and Max. Both characters appeared to be a certain way, the glimpses we were introduced to in “Giving In” and “Always In”, what we did know was that Max appeared to be a vulnerable and sensitive soul, the hot rocker with a fun sense of humor . On the other hand, we had Willow who is feisty, beautiful, and a loyal protector to her friend Harlow. Max is poor, but smart, rocking out may not be what his family has in mind for him. Willow is rich, but has a very supportive family.
This series starts off with fireworks and pulls us right back where we belong, at the shore of course! I liked how scenes and imagery were always present in the story, the shore, the beach, the bar, and the friends. It was great seeing the rest of the gang knowing that there is a promise to much more from this group leaves me very happy!
I loved how Willow and Max bantered back and forth, I couldn’t wait for them to get back in the bedroom, especially after all the excitement in the beginning of the book. I craved the scene when they were going to get back at it, the anticipation was killing me. I wanted their next time to be explosive and I wanted them to remember every single detail. Between the ways they argued, the pranks, the sneaking around, the pace of the story was smooth. Listen, I love Cruz, still love him, I am loyal to him, but MAX is a dirty talker, he is creative, and when Willow lets her guard down with him, they become addictive and so did I, I truly loved that they were becoming better people when they were around one another and that it was all developing in front of our eyes. Each interaction was creating a chain of events and that is when we start to realize that Willow and Max are investing their time with one another. An opportunity comes knocking for Max and he has to leave, this is the game changer moment, he leaves going after everything he has worked for, Willow shows her vulnerability and they share a heart pounding, melt to the floor kiss.
From this very moment, things change. When an opportunity comes for one, a tragedy happens for somebody else. It is in these moments in life where you can truly see who will be there for you. Success doesn’t come easy for Max, who is there for him? A tragedy happens for another, who will be there? This story is much more than romance, it dealt with real life situations that pop up and hit you like a ton of bricks out of nowhere, when 1 thing happens in life sometimes another thing is waiting for you.
Author M.R. Joseph did great with foreshadowing, something was always on the surface in this story, you will see, you will feel it in your heart, and you may even have to take a calming breath. That is what makes this story real, despite the good times, the laugh out louds, there are some serious sensual moments, and heartbreaking ones.
I loved that we meet up with everyone again, but what I loved the most was that I thought I had these two Max & Willow all figured out, and I was completely surprised by how fierce their love was, and who was laying it all out.
If you want to laugh, get a little worked up, cry, swoon, and Hell maybe even repeat those feelings in that order, this story is for you!
I have so much love for this author, M.R. Joseph seems to effortlessly weave stories of love and lust, of loss and regret, of second chances and new beginnings and every single time I find myself falling in love with new characters, as they cement themselves in my heart and soul, I celebrate their joys and commiserate with their sorrows, such is the type of connection I have with her characters, the soul deep affinity I feel for the people she creates.
Max is cocky, arrogant, on his way to being a rock god and funny as hell, he gives as good as he gets and isn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers. Not only is he working the whole self assured angle but he's hiding this huge heart that truly cares for his friends, he's not some shallow, one dimensional character who's flat, his energy jumps off the page, his sense of fun is infectious, and his zest for life and for living each day endears him to the reader so effortlessly.
Willow is the original ice queen, she's rich, beautiful and uses sass and smart arse remarks to keep people at a distance. Willow isn't a new character as such, she's had a good life, loving parents, every luxury money could buy, she has the perfect example of what love is in her parents, and her friendship with Harlow has shown her the kind of love that can exist between friends, but even with all the trappings wealth can provide Willow still guards her heart.
There's a beautiful fragility and yet a fierce strength in Willow, the dichotomy of the two warring sides of her personality made it so incredibly easy to be captivated by her, despite the seemingly shallow image she portrayed to the world at times there was always a depth lurking just below the surface, one that dragged you in, demanded your attention. There were moments of heart wrenching pain, unadulterated joy and soul shattering loss that stole my breath, Joseph's ability to weave a happy and at times silly and sexy romp through early adulthood, and yet blend it with characters that make you stop, and a story that tugs at your heartstrings shows the kind of talent that the author possesses. One that leaves me awe struck, stunned and ultimately so unbelievably overjoyed that I can lose myself so utterly in another world that's at once so real it's tangible, and yet so far away that I can watch the story unfold from the sidelines.
Stumbling In is a story of first impressions and second chances, it's a story of giving in, letting go, and allowing yourself to free fall, it's about believing in yourself, it's about trusting in those around you, it's about friends and lovers and family, there's such a beautiful message that underlies this entire story, and what I adore so much about M.R. Joseph is that, that message can mean something different to each reader, for me Stumbling In reminded me the kind of joy and love that's in this world when we are willing to open ourselves up to it, it reminded me that I am enough, I'm not just my past nor my present or my future, I'm a sum of all of it, and so much more, but more than anything this book reminded me that friendship is precious, to hold onto it with two hands, to savour it, to cherish it, to revel in it because when things fall apart, when you feel broken, the people you surround yourself with will be the ones to help hold you together.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love MR Joseph. This woman is one of the kindest spirits alive. I've been reading her books for a while now and as a writer, she really came into her own with the Shore series. The first two books centered around Cruz and Harlow but in those books we met Harlow's best friend Willow and Cruz's best friend Max.
As long as we have known them as characters, Willow and Max have hated one another. Willow is rich and a spoiled brat and Max is short and a starving musician. And for some reason- they can't stand each other. So they have always been at each others throats.
Until the night Harlow and Cruz get engaged. With the help of A LOT of alcohol these two end up in bed together. Of course they still hate each other and now have escalated their hatred to sabotoging each other's love lives. One night the sabotage goes far enough to cause the two of them to hash it out- except their fiery hatred turns to passion and before they know it- they're knocking boots. And of course- it's the best sex either of them have ever had.
After a little more sabotaging of any other romantic prospects, Max suggests they use each other to scratch an itch. What will happen when two people totally against falling in love find that you can't fight true feelings??
Well- let's just say it's an interesting ride. Willow was...tough. At first, she was so much of a bitch that she was hard to like. I mean really. She was a total monster and I found myself being unable to even remotely root for her let alone like her. And Max was a total sweetheart through and through. Why would he want her??
But as time goes on and their friendship starts to blossom underneath the hot sex, Willow softens and actually becomes quite likeable. Not only that, but I start to relate to her. She is a daddy's girl through and through. Her relationship with her dad mirrors my own with mine and honestly- every time she was with her dad, I got emotional.
When tragedy strikes- their new relationship is put to an ultimate test. What I think is remarkable about the story here is that I find myself now rooting for Willow and being starkly in her corner in a way I never expected. I think MR really did a great job of making you emotionally invested in these characters.
Some surprise alliances are formed throughout the book and with some touches of humor and for me- a lot of tears along the way- this was a great book.
I cannot WAIT for Thea and Porter. Seriously- the sexual tension there??? I need it to be over!
I really liked Max and Willow's story. I loved their interactions with each other. Willow was always willing to give it to Max and he gave it right back. I kind of got the feeling that there might be something between the two, but I was a bit shocked that it happened the way it did, but I guess these two would need to be really trashed in order to put their hatred aside and give in to their lust.
Max is a pretty great guy. I like that he is devoted to his friends and that he always has their backs, even if he doesn't agree with some of their decisions. I really liked that he always gave Willow a hard time and that he never backed down from her. His passion for music was a pretty great quality also. As well as his needing his dads approval, but realizing that if he didn't have it he had to do what makes him happy. I hated him for a bit, but even through the hate I was rooting for the little guy.
I loved Willow and her bad ass personality. I really loved the way she was with her family when she went home. It was like she was completely opposite of the normal bitch front she put on. The relationship she shared with her parents was pretty nice, especially the one she had with her father. I hated that she had to suffer so terribly and that she had to suffer doubly in such a terrible time, but it also had to happen like that for her to finally have that "ah-ha" moment about her life.
This book stays with the same vibe as the beginning of The Shore Series. It can be emotional at times, no where near the first two books. I liked that I got to know the other characters a little more and I am really curious to see how Thea and Porter's book plays out. I am also hoping that Craw will get his HEA. I look forward to more of this series.
This series captured my heart from the first book Giving In. The storylines, the fun, the unbreakable bond this group of friends has just pours through the words of the book and seeps into your soul. This is book 3 in the Shore Series and it's Willow's story. Yep that feisty bitch finally got to share her story. I loved every minute of being in her head. Her sarcasm had me ROTFLMFAO! she's got "the bitch" down to a T,but you get to see more of who she really is. If you've been following the series, you know she's a ride or die kinda friend and if you cross her she's liable to cut your balls of and hand em to ya. Believe me when I say I think she truly would. She us definitely a friend I would want on my side and not at my throat. I envied the way she spoke her mind, whenever, wherever friend or foe. You get the idea. The bedroom action was explosive. Like a damn grand finale on the 4th of July in your pants explosive. This book will become one of your favorites. The one you recommend when asked to provide suggestions. DEFINITELY going on my Must Read Again List. 5BadAssDirtySecretKeepingStars!!!
Stumbling In is Book 3 in the Shore Series by MR Joseph and it features Max and Willow's story with a bit of Harlow and Cruz for good measure! I honestly look forward to this series each summer! It's the perfect beach read!
As we know, Willow is Harlow's best friend. She's edgy, blunt, rich and beautiful and after a drunken night with Max, the hot, talented, musician, the two of them vow never to speak of it again. Though their chemistry is undeniable, the pair want nothing to do with each other. After sabotaging each others dates, Max and Willow make a pact to just have no strings attached sex and to keep it a secret from the rest of the gang. When tragedy strikes, feelings come out and nothing will ever be the same.
Without giving anything away, this book reminded me of my own tragedy and took me back ten years. Tears were flowing and I truly felt Willow's pain. Once again MR Joseph has delivered an awesome read! Can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
I received an ARC of stumbling in from the author as part of a blog tour.
I hate to say but I was a little apprehensive about starting this book! I have to admit I didn't like the second book as much as I did the first and I didn't have too much high hopes for this one. It has nothing to do with the writing and all to do with the characters really!!
I hated Willow in the first two books, she was a complete bitch and I just couldn't like her. The first part of this book I still didn't like her but the farther in I got the more I softened towards her. In the end I liked her, I can't say she is one of my favourite heroines but she's not as bad as I thought!
Max I have to say I really liked for the most part! He had one completely douche moment but other than that I thought he was cute and loveable! His personality really shone through and I thought he was a real Jack the lad!!
I thought this storyline was really good and M.R Joseph has kept me hooked from the beginning! I couldn't put this down
The story has laughs, suspense, twists and turns, grief, tears, sacrifice, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.
I would recommend reading the below story before reading this one: Giving In (The Shore, #1) Always In (The Shore, #2)
This is Willow and Max’s story. After a drunk one night together Max and Willow kind of declare war on each other. They play tricks and scare of potential bed partners. So they come to a truce to just use each other. But what happens when feeling comes into play that was never supposed to be involved? Can they turn those feelings off? Max is about to get a big opportunity and Willow decides to end things. But talking, chatting on video and texting is not really stopping. But what is the love one has for the other is now returned? What if one panics and runs just when the other needs them the most? Can they ever recover from that?
3.5 stars. I am glad I finished this, even though the heroine (IMHO) is barely likeable. Max and Willow have a love/hate relationship, they love to hate each other and their fights are epic, 90% of which, Willow is the instigator. There is snarky and sassy and there is flat out bitch, which is how I would classify Willow. Max and Willow have a huge dose of sexual chemistry so of course they decide to have benefits without friendship but a friendship slowly develops and as the friendship progresses, she becomes vulnerable and she grows up, A LOT! A tragedy and poor decisions rips the delicate fabric of a once blossoming friendship and getting it back seems impossible. Enjoyable read if you can get past Willow's spoiled bitchy attitude.
Willow and Max just wow. There is so much between their banter, name calling, and let's not forget how they both sabotage each other's hookups oh and the hot as well sex scenes. There is some emotional parts as well. You will not be disappointed.
Loved this book! Willow was a tough character to like in the beginning but MR did an amazing job of redeeming her. Max was the one you started out loving and had to be redeemed. It was amazing how she twisted their two characters so effortlessly. Another great book in this really fun and heartwarming series!
Can I just start out by saying that Willow is absolutely hysterical! The things that come out of her mouth are awesome! I loved this book! Funny, sexy and sweet! Can't wait for Thea!
