Chief Scientist Elisabeth Washington and her people have fled a ravaged Earth in search of a new life. Finding a world to suit isn’t easy; the journey long and arduous. When they finally set foot on what they hope will be their new home, they're jubilant, overwhelmed with relief. Too late, much too late, they discover what no one they have neighbors.
The Droushan, a shapeshifting race, have their neighboring worlds under their protection. When one of those worlds suddenly comes to life, Sect Leader Kraven and his best friend, Weapons Master Lukkis, are sent out to learn what's happening. They not only find a world reborn but an extraordinary woman who excites and arouses their mating urges.
Three intelligent, capable leaders intent on protecting their people. Two big, powerful men, working to control their inner beasts. One brilliant woman who wants them and can't understand her own urge to submit to whatever they want to do with her. It's a tense first contact situation and these three are living upon the threshold.
April Zyon is an author of erotic and paranormal romance. The hotter the sizzle, the better. Lover of Alpha heroes, bad boys, and the women they love. Insta-love believer, and true romantic at heart.
As a fan of space opera, this story starts out well with the right conflict. Earthlings traveled to an uncharted part of the galaxy and decide to terraform an uninhabited world. Elisabeth Washington is one of the lucky few in this world, trying to make a better life. A life that doesn't repeat the follies of human greed and desire back on earth is the ultimate goal. Unfortunately for them, they build on a planet owned by the Droushan, a race who owns many of the planets in this galaxy. The Droushan have rules which anyone living on one of their planets must obey. This could mean a quick ejection back to Earth after all the hard work of terraforming this planet.
The concept to this story is good. It captures my attention. The characters are of moderate interest. I like Elisabeth even if she does start to become a bit annoying. Her milquetoast words and behaviour is at odds with how the character is presented. This becomes jarring at times and leads a reader to no longer root for Elisabeth. This is unfortunate as she is the main character to be enmeshed with the sexy Droushans--Kraven and Lukkis.
The world building in this story is minimal. One would hope, if this becomes a series, the next book would reveal more about the Droushan race. As it stands, there is too much left unexplained. There are also threads in this story which just peter out. This is odd because both are mentioned enough to make it seem an important conflict and yet, it just vanishes which leaves the story feeling unfinished or unedited. For example, Kraven's parents are a huge issue for his joining with Elisabeth. Yet it is never covered. One doesn't know if it just magically disappeared or if it will show up in a follow up book. A confrontation with a good resolution would satisfy the reader and bring a closed loop. Instead, the reader is not sure what happens and the ending becomes anticlimactic.
What saves this story for me is the sex. Yes, I can be bribed with erotic sex and this story does a decent job, specifically in the preparation for Elisabeth's joining with the two males. The primal sex included with Kraven's beast also keeps the heat going for me. The rituals required to prepare a mating is an erotic fantasy. Some of the preparation is dull and could have been edited out or down to a few sentences. Some of it should have been expanded upon, specifically the dilation of the anus with probes. That would have been delightfully humiliatingly erotic.
Overall, this space opera from a new-to-me author, Ms. Zyon, shows potential. Recommended for ménage lovers who enjoy primal aliens with a voracious sex drive.

Who doesn't like to read a little Sci-Fi menage, now and then?!? Earth's humans have found a new planet to inhabit, as Earth has been destroyed. The planet that the human's have determined is most compatible just so happens to be in the Droushanian system. Commander/Sect Leader Kraven has been dispatched to the planet to investigate the intentions of these new beings (the humans). Along on the mission is his best-friend, and weapons master Lukkis. When Elisabeth, the daughter of the human leader, meets the Droushanian men, she's quickly taken with them-as they're with her.
When I'm entering a fictional world knowing that a human woman will be involved with 2 "alien" men, I have certain expectations: 1) World-Building -I need details, lots and lots of details including physical characteristics of the aliens, technological differences, etc. *From my understanding the Droushanian's are just really big people. The planet is almost identical to Earth, and there are no animals/plants to describe* 2) Differences of species - I expect many differences between the races, especially verbally.
Unfortunately this story fell short for me, I was expecting more then I was given and felt the story really lacked a plot. Many opportunities arose for conflicts (Kraven's parents, Parker's destruction, etc), but were only mentioned and not really resolved. The character's themselves I found a bit boring, especially the conversations. Elisabeth said, no less then 20 times, "I'm Sorry" "Thank You" "I love you [or my mates]". I felt the "love" developed WAY to quickly, and once they "bonded" there was no more story to tell.
I do believe this story could be fantastic, with some modifying, but at this point I'm not thrilled with it.
I really don't like giving low ratings...but it is inevitable at times and this is one of those times. This book could've been amazing, but unfortunately it was not. I kept waiting for the plot to take off, but how can it take off if there is none!? If you are gonna write a book with mostly sex, please make it X-rated, not PG! Holy crap, I wanted to beat Elisabeth just to shut her up...I lost count on the number of "I like" & "Thank you"! I felt so bad for these characters, and talk about awkward moments...I had enough to last me a life time from this book. There was so much potential here for a great read and it was left where there could possibly be a sequel. Kraven & Lukkis are interesting enough to make me want to know more of what happens with them and the future they hold with Elisabeth and the child they are expecting. However, I hope if the author does write a sequel she will bring a true plot into the story, with more interaction among the other characters not just Elisabeth cooing her likes, thanks and I love yous to Kraven & Lukkis! Yes...I could've put this book down, however I truly wanted this to be a good read and I kept waiting for the author to WOW me but was sadly disappointed.
They get together in the first 30 pages and the next 100 is just a bunch of 'I love you's, 'thank you's and 'I'm so lucky/happy/blessed to be with these guys'. Went on MUCH longer than needed.
Upon the Threshold by author April Zyon is a book I wanted to love. I feel kind of on the fence about though after I have read it. There are some great ideas, but they felt just out of my grasp as I read it. I tried to see just what it was that maybe if it had been fixed I would have liked it better, I would say make this book a start to a series, and give me less information in this book. I think I felt bogged down and almost that full feeling you get when too much information comes your way. However, this really is a great story, the characters are really good. Like I said this review is gonna be all over the place cause I am on the fence on this one. Our two men are Sect Leader Kraven he is very serious. Like he would kill you in a minute and not lose sleep kind of serious type guy. Lukkis, he is the light to Kraven’s darkness. I particularly like he is a smarty pants. I can’t resist a sexy man with a sense of humor. He is Kraven’s second in command and best friend. Elisabeth she is human daughter of the leader of the humans on this planet. She is a very interesting character. She is both brave, and whiny at the same time. She has mood swings just a tad. Over all her too accepting nature baffled me a little. I liked and hated her at the same time. So kudos to the author for making me really feel for her character cause I really did. Over all, I can say I am solidly on the fence as to the question would I recommend this book to others. Yes on creativity and showing me something I have not seen too much of, and no on other points. So I say pick it up for yourself and make your own choice. You might find you actually like this one very much.
Humans have inhabited a new planet, one that scientists deemed similar in atmosphere and nutrients as earth. Unfortunately, it was not an abandoned planet but part of the Droushanian system. Droushanian sect leaders visit the humans to investigate and tell them of their plant laws. Elizabeth is a scientist who is studying the newly inhabited planet. She eventually ends up in a ménage with the Droushanians, Kraven and Lukkis.
Unfortunately, the only enjoyable things about this story are the beginning building and the sex. Elizabeth started out as a likable characters, but became annoying as the story went on. As a human scientist, she could have remained brave and strong. But, her character became whiny and moody to the point where I just wanted her character to go away.
Kraven and Lukkis were the two more likable characters in this story. As best friends, they were so opposite that they complimented each other like yin and yang. I do with more of their backstory was explored. Kraven is very serious and by the book. Lukkis has a sense of humor and keeps Kraven grounded. They make a good pairing, together.
Overall, the world building started out strong and powerful. Unfortunately, that did not continue throughout the story and it fell flat as it went on. It has a lot of potential to be a great book, but my attention was not held long enough for me to care about the characters and their goings on. It has the potential to be a great story with some more work.
I enjoyed this book by April Zyon very much. The premise of the story was good, but there were just a couple of things that I felt needed more elaboration on. I'm hoping there will be a sequel to this book to clear them up. The creatures that the Heroes saved the heroine from early in the book being one of them, and what happened to the villain in the book the other. It was a little vague regarding these things. Also, there was a lot of concern and worry about one of the heroes parents causing problems once they were on the home planet, but they never became characters we met. The story itself was entertaining and flowed very well. It ended rather abruptly with the heroine and heroes returning to the original planet where they met, the heroine being pregnant and anticipating seeing her father. If there is a second book written, I hope it takes up where this one left off and addresses these things.
I loved this book it was a roller coaster of emotions and I loved the adventure Elisabeth is the chief scientist of a group of people from earth who terriformed a planet in The Droushan empire they are approached by an emissary who told them that they must obey their people's rules in order be under their protection Sect Leader Kraven is the man in charge of the remaining droushan people that are protecting the people who are transforming and building a new life on the planet he and his friend weapons master lukkis have become friends with Elisabeth but they avoid her after their first meeting because they have become increasingly attracted and drawn to her it turns out she is their mate at first her the fact that they were attracted to Elisabeth I think made them uncomfortable the fact that kraven is promised to another against his will won't stop him from falling in love with her and lukkis wants her no matter what will the fact kraven is promised to another effect their mating
The story line has wonderful potential, but the dialogue needs some work. Also there were several instances where angst could enter their relationship that were not utilized. Could be a great story. Sadly it missed the mark.
