With her binding to her partners, Benny feels safe and settled. She wants to start her career in the XIA and make a place in that organization. The past rears up and has other ideas. The binding has its own issues. Their group has to meet and greet each family they are attached to and try to gain approval for their union. A different technique is required for each species, and they have to be ready for anything. True love might win the day, but politics is a pain in the butt.
Benny and her 3 mates (Smith, Tremble & Argyle) are working the night shift for XIA Law Enforcement, whilst introducing the others to the Alpha, Head Vamp & Prince of the Fey. They are bonded but are planning a wedding and the alpha's agreements are needed.
There is also the legal case against her father Harcourt Ganger re the split of Benny's soul when she was a baby, and portioning it out to the other 8 babies in the hospital. Only one of those babies still lives, Jennifer Lawrence.
I was happy to get back to this series, and am thrilled that it will continue next year by covering some of the secondary characters. In this book Benny and her men spend some time together, get to know each other, work together, meet each others' families, and attend the trial of her father. One thing I enjoy about this series is that while we know how Benny feels about certain situations, we don't know what she knows. We find out what she can do and what she knows when she shows or tells others. That allows us to be part of the action as insiders while still being surprised by events.
One Part Human, Two Parts Demon, Three Parts Fey are the first three parts of a series An Obscure Magic. Full of creatures with their own magic signatures, politics and heroes and villians, its a great good start.
Benny is a journalist who loves food. She writes about food for her media network and enjoys spending time with her home-bound mother and father. But when the boss demands she join the XIA (eXtranatural Investigative Affairs) she has to spend a week riding along with three very tough, very different, and very handsome men. What's a girl to do? Especially since the latest spat of murders are centered around her and her family.
Turns out that hiding her very mixed blood and background was a lot harder than she first thought.
This serie lost its energy and appeal throughout its three volumes😕 I felt less and less connection between Benny and her guys. The story turned more around Benny and her family than her story with the guys in my opinion. The guys just followed her without daring arguing and so their relationship felt a bit imbalanced☹️ The worse is the end of this book...how weird😱 It was a kind of HFN and despite the fact the author promised that we would hear about Benny and her harem in other books of the serie, I'm not quite ready to read all of them to just glean pieces of information!
The writing did improve from book one to this, but it was a bit shallow, I'm so used to books where the plan doesn't go according to plan. But here the plot had no unexpected surprises , no mindfucks just simple, no drama. The first two books I kept waiting for a plot twist but I just made peace with the fact that what u see is what you get here. No hidden depths no shocking surprises . But overall not bad
Ok, this was fun. Benny and her guys meet the families (which was decidedly less climactic than the description). She helps Jennifer and gets a new job. The guys were fun. The house was cool. And the steeds were awesome!!!
I loved this story. Benny and her men are captivating. The interactions between all the characters was entertaining. I love this series and can't wait to read more.
Loved the trilogy following Benny and her mates & as usual I wish there was more. Ms Grace is notorious for always leaving me hanging. But alas I enjoyed myself
I love the concept of this book and the characters. But the story itself is lacking. There really was not any true plot or action in this book. It was laid like a foundation. I really expected more and from the authors blurb, it made it sound like this was the last book with Benny and the boys as main characters. I could have misunderstood, but that is the gist that I got and I was totally disappointed with the series, and it had so much potential.
I didn't find any misspelled or wrong words. Believe me, that alone is a relief. This series is one of my favorites and I'm excitedly awaiting the next book. Viola Grace is a great story teller.
Like the rest of the Obscure Magic books this one was short. I don't value a book buy the number of pages but on if enjoyed it enough for the price. I did enjoy this more than enough. However if you value a book by size then this won't be for you.
