Sins of Solnexus

Rate this book
Maybe the nation deserves to burn. In Solnexus, vampires, werewolves, fae, and humans live divided by blood, walls, and brutal law. Purebreds rule. The Impure survive...if they're lucky. Now, in its Seventh Age, Solnexus's prejudice gap has grown into the deepest chasm. Calista Alexander is human, abandoned, and fresh out of mercy. Her only priorities are staying alive and protecting her teenaged, werewolf, "adopted sister", Onyx. On the night of her twenty-first birthday, Cali's world is thrown upside-down. A seemingly easy job goes awry, Onyx is arrested, and Cali's star-shaped birthmark morphs into a magical tattoo. When a mysterious soldier, Kash Davenport, demands she travel to the capital city, Soulmere, to meet with the High Leaders, because she's the prophesied savior of Solnexus, Cali sees an opportunity. To make matters worse, Cali starts to feel things for Kash. Emotions are weaknesses and physical touch is a definite no-no, but Kash is different. As rebellion ignites, Cali must save a broken nation...or let it burn.

First of all, I'd like to thank Steph and Rattle The Stars PR for the ARC opportunity.

If you are looking for a quick urban fantasy read, this might be just the right fit for you. Unfortunately, I struggled to connect with this story, and the characters as well.

The topic and story I find very relevant to current societal situations. The segregation and the underground movements to seize power feel familiar and too close to reality. I would have enjoyed a bit more lore, hopefully it expands in the next books.

The book deals with heavy topics, but the language unfortunately could not keep me engaged. The slang and sometimes the words used felt odd.

The pacing was slightly off, the first 25% was heavy on setting the scene for the MCs. But also, a lot of the events were repeated in conversations later on, or analyzed internally. This slowed the flow of the story, which was also disrupted regularly with sudden events.

I feel like we don't know much about Kash. He's broody and moody, but apart from the parent and relationship info all we get is a mould for possessive MMCs. His obsession with Cali is very much instant and because of this feels a bit surface level. Also, how old is he that his way of showing her interest is antagonizing her?
The FMC, Cali has an aversion to touch and we learn some of the reasons, but it is referenced heavily, which makes sense. I guess this serious trauma was the mental health rep? Her whole personality is being rude and bratty to a point where I could agree with the elders saying she's disrespectful. You can have a different opinion, but you don't have to be such a bitch about it. I struggled with her thoughts, the nicknames for everyone e.g.
Their relationship feels lust-driven (also mentioned by the FMC...), and as someone who needs organic growth, this was not achieved in those few days we were given. They also are not really enemies, so I feel like marketing this as enemies to lovers is a bit misleading. Enemies would mean more like
Onyx I really don't want to talk about, because I just wanted to slap her every.single.time.

This book definitely has its audience, and it is for you if you like
- insta-lust
- character-driven storylines
- bratty MCs
- mysterious characters
- out-of-the-blue events

Sins of Solnexus takes us into a supernatural world where different species live under a deeply divided society, separated by bloodlines, power, and status. At the center of the story is Calista Alexander, a human Vulture living in Forgotten Isle, one of the most neglected parts of Solnexus.
Calista is used to surviving on her own and has little faith in the people who rule Solnexus. Alongside her is Onyx, her roommate and the person she considers family. Their lives take a major turn when a dangerous encounter leads Calista toward the Divine Committee and a mysterious prophecy that she never believed was real.
One of the things that stood out to me was the world-building. Solnexus has different supernatural species, territories, political divisions, and a clear conflict between Purebreds and Impure beings. The discrimination and inequality within the society add another layer to the story and make Calista’s journey feel much more meaningful.
The Celestial Prophecy also adds a really interesting mystery to the plot. Calista is suddenly forced to question whether the prophecy is actually connected to her and what it could mean for her future. I enjoyed seeing her struggle with the idea of being responsible for something much bigger than herself.
The story also has plenty of mystery, danger, supernatural elements, unexpected revelations, and emotional moments. Calista’s strong personality and determination make her an interesting protagonist, especially as she challenges the people in power instead of simply accepting what she is told.

Thank you to Steph and Rattle The Stars PR for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an EASY 5 ⭐️

Urban Fantasy | Dystopian Society | Vampires | Werewolves | Fae | Forbidden Romance | Hidden Magic.

Sins of Solnexus wastes no time introducing us to Cali - a feisty, sassy bounty hunter who matches energies - and Kash (also known as Danger Dude and Captain Asshat), the chronic rule-follower, Captain of the Divine Guard and a very attractive problem for Cali.

The chemistry and tension between these two started very early on in the book, but it was their banter that really got me. Their personalities constantly clash, and watching Kash's carefully controlled exterior get tested by Cali every chance she gets was SO MUCH FUN.

Add in a magical linking cuff and send them on their journey? I'm hooked.
Forced proximity has nothing on forced 24/7 proximity 🤣.

With the change of her birthmark to a magical tattoo, Cali's transformation begins, but what I really enjoyed was that there's a genuine learning curve for her as she experiments, makes mistakes, and gradually figures things out with Kash's support and guidance. This made their relationship so much more satisfying to watch develop as that initial tension gradually becomes something neither of them can quite ignore.

The political hierarchy was also an interesting flip on a familiar concept, and the mystery surrounding Cali's heritage had me DESPERATE for answers. We get just enough by the end to satisfy some of that curiosity while leaving me absolutely desperate for book 2!

Love this dystopian fantasy, a true enemies to lovers tale, with an exquisite slow burn. Cali & Kash have an amazing chemistry that evolved into something real and beautiful. I loved the yearning and banter between them. Cali is an emotionally complex character who struggles with her mother's death, abandonment issues, a society constantly oppressing people based on genetic composition. She experiences some life altering revelations on her 21st birthday that she struggles to accept.

This book sucked me in quick and I devoured it while trying to figure out what was going to happen next. The plot twists were captivating and I really enjoyed every moment of this book. Can't wait to see what the next book brings.

I needed this! If you ever find yourself in a reading slump Solnexus is where you need to be! True blue enemies to lovers with a slow burn sooo good! The banter between the FMC and MMC is EVERYTHING! Steph did an amazing job not letting the romance overpower the plot which makes the whole story flow perfectly! I need book 2 like yesterday! I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of such an awesome ARC and can’t wait to see what Steph, Cali, and Kash have in store for us!

I have enjoyed being part of the ARC team, and I am very interested in how this series will continue because that ending has me SPITTING mad lol! (Cliffhanger, my bittersweet lover 😩) Cali, oh Cali, my poor girl 🥺 trauma ABOUNDS. And not just for Cali, Onyx and Kash. You'll find quite a lot of commentary on our own world at large. More, please!

Okay, for me the vibe (in spite of the trauma and atrocity) was more lighthearted than I expected and I was sent into fits of laughter very often. And many survivors cope with it all with dark humor because laughter might not heal but sometimes it feels better than crying lmfao.

But on the serious notes, for survivors who share trauma like Cali, like I do, it feels very close to home. What power do we surrender when we let fear be our only driver? What do we deprive ourselves by locking up the trauma only to suffocate ourselves and drown on dry land? If we can trust no one, can we even trust ourselves?

I need answers that won't come until book two of more Cali, my Caliiii 😩

I need the next book immediately. This was such a heartfelt but action packed story. It’s one of those fantasy books that mirrors reality so well and feels accessible in the world building. The journey you go on with Cali as she continues to have her world changed by secrets, the High Leaders, and those pesky feelings for Kash (who could blame her). Cali’s relationship with Onyx about broke me. Sometimes the love you have for someone isn’t enough when they go through their own darkest moments. I don’t want to give anything away so I would highly encourage you to read it!

This is going to be a reread series for sure!

Thank you to Rattle the Stars and Author for this ARC.

"You're just a being searching for someone to love you for you. Yearning for belonging. Looking for her place in the world"

This is an urban fantasy with werewolves, vampires and humans. Enemies to lovers, with lots of fun banter. There were some unique things to the world, the magical letters, and then others you'd typically expect, like a prophecy/chosen one. So while parts felt predictable for me. I found myself smiling at the banter. The betrayal stung and we end with needing a lot of answers. It shows when you live within a bubble you can easily miss things going on around you. When people constantly leave, all you want is someone to love and not abandon you.

Want a commentary on our current times that is told through a fantasy lens? Look no further than Sins of Solnexus by @steph.ziders.books !

In this hierarchical society, Cali is struggling to survive in the most impoverished area of Solnexus. Cali is a human which is one of the lowest classes of beings and she longs for a more fair and just world. In a bounty hunting incident gone wrong, Cali and her roommate Onyx are caught by the captain of the guard, Kash, and their world is turned upside down. Turns out Cali is in fact an ‘impure’ being that is prophesied to save the world. Her mother speaks to her from the grave by leaving enchanted notes and messages that appear at certain times to help unravel the mystery of Cali’s existence.

This dystopian world is full of vampires, werewolves, fae, and humans who are constantly competing for a more ‘perfect’ society of purebreads. The world building is very in-depth without feeling like a textbook. Cali is so strong and feisty. She recognizes her value and does not compromise herself for other beings’ agendas. When she begins to manifest powers, it helps her work through her past drama by identifying and feeling her buried emotions.

Her closest found-sister is Onyx, a werewolf who has abandoned her pack. Cali has been a mother figure to her and protects her as such. When Onyx is taken to jail and finds a pack of werewolves with nefarious motives, Cali worries that she has lost her sister forever. Onyx is so young and impressionable and is bound to make imperfect decisions when swayed by influential beings.

Kash, our serious and loyal captain of the guard, is joining my league of favorite book boyfriends. He seems so tough on the outside and is so emotionally intelligent. He makes me kick my feet up in the air with his attentiveness to Cali.

The last 10% of the book was a heart-wrenching wild ride full of love and betrayal. I am already so excited for the next installment!

“Sins of Solnexus” will be released on September 29th, 2026. It is available for order on @thewildrosepress and you can also find it on Amazon!

Thank you to rattle the stars PR for this ARC Opportunity

This book was a fairly quick read, that kept me engaged while maintaining a “light touch”

The story is an urban fantasy - society is divided in purebreds (Fae, vampires, werewolves and humans) and Impure (children of interspecies relationships)
While the government is run by a representative of each species, there is very little care about the Impure population. They’re relegated in the poorest part of the continent, and looked down from any other species. They have no representative either.
As a radical movement ramps up their killing of impures, the government turns their sight on a prophecy that may help unite all species again, and bring back peace.

I enjoyed how the book focuses on social inequalities, political corruption and oversight on the less fortunate.
While these themes come back again and again, the story itself remains light, without getting too political at all.
While I normally enjoy more depth, I have to admit the book hold itself just fine as it is, and kept me engaged while “not having to concentrate too hard” while reading it.

The FMC is a character I can get behind.
She’s had a rough life, and I can completely emphasise with her views of government and upper classes. Still I didn’t feel at all she used this as an excuse to just winge nor moan, she’s a survivor and is ready to fight for what she believes and the ones she loves. She’s always ready to voice her honest opinion, while is also able to listen and accept others perspectives (eventually😂)

I liked the MMC too, although I would have liked to know more about his past, highlighting more complexity in his character.
Still their relationship worked well, and I liked how they both “mellowed” for each other, starting to see each other’s truths and so changing their perception of the world.

The one thing I would say is that I felt the last chapter and epilogue felt a bit rushed to me.
The epilogue skims on the characters running away, only mentioning a potential important discovery (the statue), flying past the concept of mates and ending in a scene that was a bit expected.

Overall I still did enjoy the book, and would like to know where the story goes!

🖤ARC REVIEW🖤

There is something so satisfying about a book that gives you a little bit of everything without losing sight of the story it’s trying to tell and this book did exactly that!
We follow Callista a woman who’s spent her life fighting to survive in a world full of impure and pure supernatural beings divided by power, bloodlines and prejudice. When everything she thought she knew about herself begins unraveling she finds herself caught in the middle of a prophecy that could change the future of Solnexus. One of my favorite things about this story was Callista herself! She’s stubborn, sarcastic (I loved the sarcasm the most) fiercely independent and isn’t afraid to challenge the people in power. But underneath that tough exterior is someone who’s experienced an incredible amount of pain. Watching her slowly learn about herself, her abilities, and what she’s capable of was one of my favorite parts of the book. And then there’s Cash! I absolutely loved him too!!! Their relationship was such an enjoyable slow burn. I loved the banter, the tension, the forced proximity, and especially the gradual development of trust between them. The more vulnerable moments between them were some of my favorites it just made me feel really connected to them! I appreciated how the author incorporated deeper themes throughout the story as well. It explores discrimination, corruption, trauma, found family, betrayal and the consequences of allowing fear and hatred to divide people. The worldbuilding was intriguing especially as more secrets about the nation’s history and its leadership began coming to light. I loved how the revelations gradually changed my understanding of the world and made me question the intentions of certain characters iykyk👀. And the plot twists? I wasn’t a big big fan of Onyx but that ending😭 I’m incredibly invested in these characters and cannot wait to see where the story goes! Because after that ending, I NEED answers!

I am so proud to be an early ARC reader for this book and able to give my honest opinion on it.

I will not lie, it took me quite a few chapters to get into the story, but once I was in: I was hooked. Overall the story telling and the breadth of this world were truly captivating in many ways. The division amongst the people, not just the Purebred and the Impure, but those of different species as well, helped create a lot of tension throughout. As the story went on, the more information I got on how things in this society ran, the more it kept me invested in how the FMC, Cali, had to interact within it to keep herself and her friends safe.

Cali and her past history and trauma helped play a major role in how she viewed her relationships with others. At first, she feels she only has Onyx, who gets taken away from her. Then there is Kash, the man sent by the Divine Council to bring her in to basically be the savior of this world. From the beginning, you can feel the tension between the two and the banter back and forth is honestly what made me want to keep reading. As their relationship grows and develops, it definitely felt real and not a forced will they won't they type situation.

With the way things ended, I am gripping on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book. So much has shifted and changed by the end of it that I can't wait to go further into this world and Cali's story.

Thank you to Steph and Rattle the Stars PR for this ARC.

This book is great if you love insta-love, urban fantasy, and are leaning towards more juvenile writing style. Marked as enemies to lovers, but not sure they are enemies as much as roommates.

Things I liked
- urban fantasy setting/ bordering on dystopian
- encompassing many magical beings
- Devon
- the premise of the story (FMC finding out she’s the savior in a prophecy)
- mystery of FMC background and clues discovered along the way
- Calista being part wolf with alpha powers (loved the hinting towards this throughout the book)

What I didn’t care for
- the juvenile writing style, cussing every other sentence
- FMC had juvenile internal/external dialogue and behavior
- insta love
- MMC continues to say he supports her but yet then also shoves her repeatedly into things he sees are traumatic for her and basically just says “get over it” ??? And then immediately after apologizes and says he will never do it again and then they are in love and can’t be separated
- the way the trauma was dealt with (or rather not dealt with)
- the dialogue was very lacking and stilted
- post prison onyx for being the absolute worst friend ever

So I need book 2 IMMEDIATELY. That ending?! Soul crushing. I am shooketh and I really really need to know what happens next!
I was weary starting this book when I realized it was going to be another "chosen one" type story. I was worried that I already had the plot figured out a couple chapters into the book. BUT I WAS WRONG. This book surprised me. It gripped me by the throat and dragged me in. I absolutely fell in love with these characters. Cali was feirce, loyal and had a whole emotional fortress built around her heart. Kash was hilarious, fierce, loyal and absolutely heart melting.
The yearning was beautifully intense and gripping. The trauma and pain was palpable and devastating. I felt each fracture in my own chest for Calista.
The plot, back-story and scene building was captivating. I absolutely loved the modern dystopian fantasy setting. It really felt reflective of current world issues. I couldn't put this book down.
The last couple of chapters felt ever so slightly rushed which disappointed me a bit after so much intense emotional buildup. But the end sucked me back in and then spit me out beaten and bruised.
Overall such a fantastic read and I am eagerly awaiting to know what happens next.

This dystopian urban fantasy hooked me right from the start with its incredibly deep and divided society. The world-building splits different supernatural species; vampires, werewolves, fae, and humans; by status and bloodlines, creating a stark conflict between the Purebreds and the Impure. The story follows Calista, a human Vulture living in a neglected district, whose life gets completely turned upside down on her twenty-first birthday when her roommate Onyx is arrested and a magical tattoo forces her into a savior prophecy she doesn't even believe in.

I loved how emotionally complex Cali is as a protagonist. She’s a total black-cat lead with serious abandonment and touch aversion issues, but she challenges the people in power instead of just taking their orders. Her dynamic with Kash, the broody soldier sent to bring her to the capital, is full of sharp banter and an intense, slow-burning connection. Despite the heavy trauma and political corruption themes, the book has a surprisingly lighthearted edge with plenty of dark humor that had me laughing out loud. The plot twists are captivating, and that brutal cliffhanger ending leaves you desperate for book two.

Thank you Rattle Star PR and Steph Ziders for the gifted e-ARC!

Sins of Solnexus is an urban fantasy dream, where various species live in a very segregated society. Our FMC Calista (Cali) is an “impure” that is struggling to survive in one of the most neglected parts of their society. Life doesn’t necessarily get easier for her, but she so resilient and faces each and every challenge with a feistiness that I very much enjoyed.

The political divide between the Divine committee, purebreds, and the impure add a very intriguing element. There isn’t really a side that’s 100% right and our FMC is just doing her best to know what the right thing to do is, especially since she has been proclaimed to be “the savior”. Talk about pressure. 😅

There is a bit of romance, not too overwhelming though. That being said I really enjoyed it and thought It was appropriate for the story line. You could really feel that the FMC and MMC really cared for one another.

That cliffhanger though… I’m gonna need book 1 ASAP. 🫠

I LOVED this book. 5 stars, no notes. I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up, but Cali is a badass, incredible FMC who uses her trauma and visibly grows throughout the book. The plot was thick, twisty and interesting and the world building was so fantastically imaginative it was a pleasure to picture. I can't imagine what went into creating such a diverse world with such issues and dark places, it was excellent. Page-turning, found family that heals you and rips you apart. I read this book so quickly, I just couldn't stop. Kash, Cali and Devon are a brilliant trio and the relationships were done so well. One of my favourite reads this year and after that ending, I need the next book immediately. Thank you to Steph and Rattle the stars pr

REVIEW of an Advanced Copy from the Author

Sins of Solnexus is a high-fantasy dystopian set book featuring a strong FMC and MMC who were marketed as enemies to lovers but its a little more a "happen stance, forced proximity" situation. The book follows the FMC, Cali, who comes from a dark and tortured background. Cali has to come to grips with a new future she never pictured for herself and is faced with impossible decisions and must deal with twists and turns. During parts of the book, the wording of nicknames felt off from the characters that were built in previous pages.

The ending felt a tad bit rushed BUT the ending pages were so worth it.
