Gina’s life was perfect, until the day she realized the man she loved didn’t love her back. Her charming life turned upside down as tragedy and cruelty struck her down. She learned to protect her family from those who could cause them pain, but she inadvertently ensured the perfect life would be forever out of her reach.

Marcus has hid his love for Gina for years. His assumptions about her have allowed him to be harsh, but underneath all the anger is a man deeply in love. The tough realities of her life put them in position to see themselves in a whole new light. The second chance is right there and it could take them over the edge into the love they’ve always wanted.

S.J. Maylee fell in love with storytelling at a young age and with it came a deep-seated desire for everyone to find their happily ever after. She’s finding the happy endings for her characters one steamy story at a time.

When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her caring for her garden, laughing with her two young sons, or dancing to her husband’s music. She’s a PMP (Project Management Professional), Nia instructor, and coffee addict.

As a writer she has a tendency to break hearts, but she always glues them back together.

Well that was a mess of erotic proportions. We had loved each other since childhood, we had a sex club, we had dom/sub, we had misconceptions, we had evil stepfamily member, we had a lot of dying family members, co-workers forced to cooperate, and none of it worked. Better stuff out there. Skip.

Love Projects : Taking Over is the third book in the series by S.J. MayLee. I have never read this series before and I was not lost at all. Gina is a very modern character. She has her own sense of honor and is not willing to give into anyone’s demands. One would think that would make her a dominate. But nope she is a sub. So that means she has to give into someone right? Well her husband left her, and there is a nasty rumor going around about her now. Top that with a ton of family problems how is a sub suppose to get a dom?
Enter in old flame Marcus. He happens to be the best friend of her ex husband. He believes the reason that they broke up is because Gina cheated. But he cannot get past his own feelings for Gina. He has always wanted her. If she had not married her husband he would have asked her to marry him. Now Gina is free, and needs him. Can he put the past behind and find a new beginning with Gina?
I liked how Marcus didn’t take any of the gruff that Gina put out. He got to the heart of the matter and made sure Gina knew he was not going to be scared off by her icy attitude. Gina just had to learn to let someone in, and let them help her. I am so glad she did with Marcus. I really think these two were meant for each other.
Very nice pace to this book too. There is plenty of heat between Gina and Marcus that kept me turning the pages. Really liked this story and glad I got the chance to read it.

When SJ first told me that she was going to write a story about Gina, well let's just say I was very skeptical. Gina was defiantly not my favorite person and the way she treated my favorite heroines, well that didn't bode well for Gina. To Gina say was my least favorite person would be the understatement of the year.

As can be expected, when SJ told me to expect this story in my inbox, I was part excited and part scared. Excited to finally get to know Marcus and scared because it was Gina. But I promised to go into this story with an open mind, after all I do adore SJ.

So after reading it, did I like it?

Short answer..... Yes.

Long answer..... Gina surprised me, in more ways than I anticipated. The reasons that she acts the way she does proves that she has a heart.... a really big heart. Although her actions are not be condoned, I get it. And for this I have to, albeit reluctantly, admit that I like and respect her.

Marcus has he's hands full when he decides to get to the heart of Gina. He's the Master with a heart of gold. He's techniques are very provocative and alluring. I love that he never gives up on Gina, even when her stubbornness gets in the way. And it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes.

What a great surprise to see so many familiar faces in this story. It's like seeing old friends and catching up with them. I would have loved to have been sandwiched between all those seductive men at one table. Someone get me a fan!

In short, this was a very sensual tale of longing for someone from afar and then getting the opportunity to finally act on those feelings. A story of hope, courage, and second chances. A story that proves you can't judge a book, or a person in this case, at face value.

Well done my friend! You took the bad girl we all loved to hate and made her someone that we can love and care for. I didn't think it was possible, but you are Gina's personal miracle worker!

Really enjoyed this story and I will have to go back and read the others in this series now. Yeah, I was so intrigued by teasers that I'd read, that I simply had to read this book.

It's very emotional in places, and you really feel for Gina, even though I wanted to strangle her at times too, lol. Sign of a good writer, to evoke that much of a response in a reader, really. :-)

Marcus was just yummy, and SJ did a great job at showing his bafflement at Gina's actions. If I have one criticsm it was the lack of dialogue tags. They made following who was speaking a tad confusing at times, but I loved the story.

Read this little gem in one sitting, and like I said, I must go back and read the others now!

This book had strong opening hook. “Bad girls” are always more interesting than good ones, and in this book Gina, who was a “bad girl” in the previous Love Projects books, gets to tell her side of the story. Of course, we learn that everything is not what it appeared. I liked the complexity of the relationships in Taking Over, and the way Marcus leaped to Gina defense even when he wasn’t sure he believed her or could trust her (that’s a man in love!). I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous book, but note that this book CAN be read as a stand-alone. You don’t have to read the previous ones to enjoy the story.

Taking Over is the book 3 in this series, but I have not read the first two and I don't feel I missed anything by not reading the others first.

Gina is a strong, independent, proud, and incredibly strong character-that happens to be a submissive. Honestly you don't see that much and it was a nice twist. Marcus is sex on a stick and a dom that knows what he is doing with such a strong submissive. He makes Gina be who she needs to and helps her along the way. The only reason I gave this story 4 stars instead of 5 was because some of the sex scenes seemed so detached, but they made up for it at the end.
