From New York Times Bestselling Author Viola Rivard, and introducing Caelan Snow, comes a sizzling paranormal romance...
Nestled in the rocky hills of the Dakota Territory lies Greystone, a hidden town where shifters of all breeds can live in peace. The only bear in Greystone, Grissom's sheer size and strength is enough to keep the shifters in line. Though he works as the town's enforcer, he spends his days wandering the forests, hunting and foraging for food.
Everything changes the night Grissom meets Ruby: a beautiful, curvaceous, and utterly irresistible human. Though being with her could jeopardize everything, the grizzly bear shifter is determined to claim her as his mate.
This is a standalone story, no cliffhangers. It is a short novel, approximately 32,000 words. It is a historical paranormal romance and contains mature content, unsuitable for readers under 18.
A VERY UNIQUE STORY !!! Grizzly Bear's Bride is the first book in an interesting new series by Viola Rivard and Caelan Snow. This is a stand alone novella with no cliffhanger and does have a very nice happily ever after ending. The story is well written and somewhat unique in that it takes place in the days of early America and the characters are pioneers, shifters and native inhabitants of the land probably sometime after the American Revolution but before the Civil War. It features Grissom, a bear shifter that resides in Greystone, a hidden town in the Dakota Territory where shifters of all breeds live together peacefully hidden from the world. Grissom is the only bear shifter and is the enforcer for Greystone. It's his job to secure their borders and keep the town safe. Although Grissom had a human mother and at one time, lived among humans, he was happy living in Greystone not having to be a part of the human world. Or so he thought....until the day he met beautiful, curvaceous Ruby Tenbrook. She smelled like fresh honey on a spring morning and she was irresistible. Ruby had traveled from Boston with her intended, Frederick, her father Felix Tenbrook, her brother Henry and her friends Susannah and Erna to settle on a homestead in the Dakota Territory purchased by Frederick who had inherited a large estate after his father's death. Frederick was not a good man and Ruby didn't love him but knew her father was old and could no longer provide for their family so it was now left up to her to see to their well being. Although Ruby was unhappy, she felt that she could bear it until she met Grissom while out searching for her father. Ruby was a virgin and had never had a man but she knew she wanted Grissom. And it seemed the feeling was mutual because Grissom very much wanted the lovely Ruby. But humans are never allowed in Greystone. Can Grissom save Ruby and her family from the Lakota Tribe? Will Ruby and Grissom find a way to be together? So spoilers from me but I will say this.....Handsome bear shifter-check! Beautiful curvaceous virgin-check! Shifters, Lakota Indian tribe and a cruel selfish human fiance-check! Instant attraction, fiery passion and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Well written and very engaging! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
I saw sent this book to review with no blurb for the story, so I did not know what to expect from it. Ruby is engaged to a rather selfish and terrible man, and she goes looking for her aged father after some kind of hunting accident which left him stranded in the woods on his own. In looking for her father, she comes across Grissom, or rather, Grissom comes across her as her scent captivates him. I love Grissom's description of how she smells to him, like honey on a warm spring morning. Ruby is a lovely girl. She's caring, selfless and responsible. She's also rather sensible and levelheaded for a city girl who finds herself lost in the Dakota wilds, encountering a man that she's strangely attracted to. There's a lot to like about Ruby. As for Grissom, he's a total gentleman. I liked Grissom a lot because he was so big, being a grizzly bear shifter, in his human as well as his bear state. He's tender and gentle with Ruby and very, very considerate. He goes against the rules that his community has erected to keep the shifters safe in order to protect Ruby and while he questions himself and his motives, he is able to say that he regrets none of his actions because of Ruby. I loved that he was willing to sacrifice everything for her because in her, he has found his other half and his happiness. I also like that he acknowledges that life is hard in the Dakota wilds but he'll work at it to be with Ruby. It makes him such an honorable man and also a realist. Since it was written by Viola Rivard, I was expecting an erotic romance but it turned out to be more of a paranormal romance than erotic. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed as I was expecting a much sexier story than it turned out to be, still all in all, a fun read. I'm looking forward to Mojag's story next.
Any time I'm given a ARC it's a gift. I appreciate the fact Viola and any reader who reads this review would trust in my opinion. I rate it a five stars. The storyline has a good pace and it flows easily together. The characters are interesting, fantastic, lovable and is easy to relate to. Viola is very talented she weaves her stories to entertain us and does a Brillant job at. I'm fan of Viola's shifter stories I can and do read them all the time. This story is exciting, has action and a lot of handsome shifters OH BOY. Grissom is a large most of the time laid back grizzly bear. But he will always protect the people he is a enforcer. Grissom's mother died when he was young and even through his mother had every intention to tell Grissom about his bear she died before she could tell him and as his father had left them when he was very young. Bears are always hungry so Grissom was thinking of food and couldn't wait to find some to eat. But he got the smell of something like the fresh morning dew honey. Grissom just had to follow it and what he found was delicious smelling girl. He follow and he decided she was lost and his mate.
Ruby was a looking for he elderly father. She stop as she wondered if she could get away with removing some of her dressing because it was so hot she thought about it for a second and decided she could. Just as she finish stepping out of her outer dress Grissom step from the trees. Ruby felt she was a big girl but Fredrick her fiancée was always calling her fat. Ruby knew she had lot some weight because of physical work she had to do. Ruby try's to scare Grissom but that's kinda hard to do if the gun barrel is pointed at yourself. The story is funny and will make you laugh out loud. This a AWESOME START of a SERIES. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. A MUST READ!!
I like when authors take a chance and try something a little different. This is only the second book I have read where an author mixes a western romance with a paranormal theme. Many of the books in this genre have characters who have been alive hundreds or even thousands of years but you rarely hear about their past and how they interacted with humans back then. In this story, Ruby is going West from Boston to help her finance make his claim. She has brought her father and young brother as well as her best friend. Her fiance is mean and miserable but he has the money she needs to help her family survive. She is willing to sacrifice her personal happiness for their well-being. One day her father goes missing and she encounters Grissom, a bear shifter. He lives in a secret, nearby community of shifters. They don't like the humans approaching their area. There is also Native Americans in the area who have shifters in their community as well. The two groups have a peace agreement. When Grissom means Ruby he has a strong desire to protect her and this puts everything at risk. They have some tough choices to make about their future and face great danger. I felt great compassion for Ruby in her desire to protect those she loves even though it will mean a lifetime with a man she despises. Grissom is a protector and he is willing to put everything on the line for those he cares for without concern for his personal safety. They make a great couple. I received a ARC in return for a honest review.
Greystone is a magical town that is filled with shifters of all kinds. Greystone has a governing body made up of the different kinds of categories of shifters represented by their leaders. Grissom is a bear shifter and has the role of Peace Keeper. He patrols the areas boarders and is a loner. He has never wanted much. Everything he needs he can find in the woods. On patrol he is notified of humans possibly establishing a settlement. This is unacceptable. Upon closer inspection Grissom is overcome with a scent that has awakened the bear within him. The bear wants, no NEEDS this woman. He wants her as a mate. How could this be, the people of Greystone do not mix with humans. Ruby is a strong willed, curvaceous woman. She has been carrying the weight of caring for her family ever since the death of her mom. Ruby’s elderly dad is missing and her “so-called fiancé, Fredrick” cannot be bothered to find him. Ruby’s mission of finding her dad crosses paths with Grissom. Can these two work together and not get caught up in the passion they both feel and desire? This is a great story with lots of romance. Viola Rivard does an outstanding job of writing great stories. This new collaboration with Caelan Snow is perfect. I cannot wait to see if there will be more from the Town of Greystone!
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION .... OVER 18 READING...... VIOLA RIVARD HAS ANOTHER BOOK THAT I HAVE LOVED WATCHING IT UNFOLD....., Grissom (grizzly bear shifter) and friend Mojag (a panther shifter, who hates humans) were from the hidden town of Greystone, hidden deep in the forest and the Lakota shifters long since hid deep in the mountains , they were to guard the territory to be sure the boundaries were clearly marked and watch for potential threats to there hidden village.they saw a small settlement and Mojag said he would scout it by moonlight so patrol is your for the day and he left. But Grissom caught a scent of not just cooking, sawdust, horses ...honey and feminine...a female who smelled like honey..as the realization hit him he went in search of her. He finds that this leads him to a adventure, danger for his village, danger for his mate. I loved the way this plays one way and changes then changes again, keeping you on your toes while you enjoy the journey. He has to let part play out as it should, leaving his mate and family with a problem. But after talking with her father they have a way to fix it to Ruby's surprise. But it will cost him a lot. Now I can't wait to read the adventure for Ruby's friend Susannah( human who knows nothing of shifters) and Mojag (Grissom friend who hates humans).
I was given this ARC book for an honest review. Ruby is a woman who has tried to take care of her family since her mother passed away. While she can read and write, her father has worked hard so she can marry well. Her fiancé is a solider who has money but wants to leave Boston for the Dakotas to claim land and strike it rich looking for gold. When they finally get there and claim their land Frederick plans to marry Ruby. While not in love with him,she feels he is the best she can do. Grissom is a responsible but laid back kind of person. He takes his role of enforcer seriously to protect his people and their hidden town. He does tend to get distracted at times, and one of those times is when the new settlers arrive. He follows his nose to a scent that has captured his interest and sees Ruby. Ruby is looking for her father and Grissom helps her. They find him surrounded by the Lakota who are demanding blood for a slain tribesman. Grissom takes Ruby and her father and they run, he will need to report to his council and is sure they will not rule in his favor. Can Grissom protect Ruby and her family? What of Frederick, will Ruby marry him to take care of her family? Will Ruby and Grissom ever be happy apart? A touching romantic story of how love conquers all.
This is a historical shifter book that is a stand alone in a new on going series. Grissom is the only bear shifter in his town when he and his fellow shifter Morag see a human settlement near their territory. Ruby goes in search of her father who is lost in the forest and finds Grissom instead, he leads her to her father and stops the Lakotas from killing him which causes a strain in the truce between them and his town. After making sure her father is free he takes Ruby back to his home so he can let the council know what happened. Grissom knows Ruby is his mate but refuses to act on n it not for not because she is human but because she is engaged to marry someone else. After sending Ruby home with the understanding that she will be safe he learns that it was a trick to stop him from getting involved in the Lakotas revenge. Can he save her and her family or will there be bloodshed. I wished the book was a little longer so we can learn more about this couple but there will be another book coming soon about Grissom's friend Morag and Ruby's friend Susannah.
I received a copy of this book for a honest review...
So, if you think this is a typical Viola Rivard book you will be incorrect. Its way different than her other work. Yes its paranormal and about shifters but its different. Takes place way back when, its a historical story. If you dont like those then you'll definitely not like this one. It was ok they aren't my favorite but I did read it and initially enjoyed it. There were some negative aspects of it which is why the 3 star rating. I LOVED the characters Ruby and Grissom. She was sweet and responsible and a really good woman and really funny. Grissom was a grizzly bear and hes big but couldnt be sweeter. A true gentleman considering he's a shifter and hes not a take what I want when I want it. He keeps his hands to himself for the most part and kiss and a touch basically. This is not erotic at all. She's a virgin and he doesn't touch her until the end sorry to spoil it. It is a bit boring at times. Its slow moving at times as well. I take no issues with the characters. I think a lot of information is dumped on us and not a lot is expanded on and thats my main issue with. Hopefully the next book is better.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This book takes place when settlers were just starting to move out west which is very different from most shifter books. Grissom is a bear shifter who lives in Greystone, a village of all kinds of shifters. One day he smells something wonderful and meets a human named Ruby. Ruby is trying to homestead but is with her old father, 9 yr old brother another woman her age but worst of all her lazy drunkard of a fiance. While helping Ruby find her lost father Grissom angers the Lakota shifters who plan to attack Ruby's family (blood for blood) After negotiating with the Lakota Grissom marries Ruby.http://www.vachon.com/en/contest-morn... I love this author and while this starts off a little slow it is worth reading .I applaud Ms. Rivard for writing in a time period that has been used very little as this opens up all possibilities I look forward eagerly to the next book.
Grizzly Bear's Bride (Greystone Shifters Book 1) by Viola Rivard
I found this book to be different but good. It's set in the Wild West in a hidden town of Greystone, in the rocky hills of the Dakota Territory. The main characters are Grissom the town's enforcer who is also a grizzly bear shifter and Ruby a beautiful, curvy human. Ruby followed her fiancé Frederick who she has promised to marry in exchange for him helping to provide for sick father and younger brother. Frederick deciding to rid them of her father, takes him and leaves him in the forest. In searching for her father Ruby meets Grissom it find out what happens next you will have to read the book.
I liked this book it has great characters and a well thought out plot. It's a good stat to a new series. I recommend it.
A very promising start to a new shifter series. Ruby has moved out west with her family and fiance, Frederick to settle in the Dakota Territory. After her father goes missing, Ruby takes it upon herself to go looking for him. She stumbles upon Grissom, a large intimidating man who just happens to be a bear shifter. Grissom decides to help Ruby look for her father and they must pass through Lakota shifter territory. They find her father, but are now in danger of trespassing.
Grissom vows to protect Ruby and takes her back to his homestead, Greystone, a haven for shifters. Grissom must now choose between saving Ruby and protecting the shifter community.
This is a great start to a new series and I am excited to follow all these great new characters. Hopefully there will be more Grissom and Ruby, as their story was just beginning.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the first of this series, I also liked very much the era it takes place in.
Ruby is ready to marry a very cruel man in order to secure the future of her family in a time when women were only good for the home and had to marry in order to survive.. She follows her intended with her family from the city into the wilderness in search of gold. Little does she know she is about to step into world she has never imagined to exist.
Grissom is a werebear living among other shifters far from civilization. Until the day he gets a whiff of honey, unlike any other smell of honey! This bear will never be the same again.
I can't wait to read more of The Greystone Shifters.
I really like Viola Rivard's books, and i was surprised when she announced that she will be co authoring the story. So my expectations were high. I was little bit disappointed, because it is too short but a nice story with no cliffhangers, i would really like to see more of Ruby and Grissom. I liked the time when it was happening, it was something new, i missed some of Viola steamy sex scenes. Story starts with Ruby lost in the woods, because she is looking for her father. She came in those woods because of her fiancé wish to dig gold in those mountains. Grissom helps her to find her father and that how their story begins. They have strong chemistry but as i wrote it on the begining it was too short for standalone story. Comment Comment | Permalink

This iS an ARC REVIEW COPY and cannot wait for Viola's next book .
Grissom is a bear shifter that is always hunger. He is always looking for food even if he is on patrol. He catches a honey scent and goes hunting. He runs up on Ruby who is looking for her father. Looking for him together they seem to start a bond. If she can get rid of Frederick (her all to mean soon to be husband) then she will be in great shape. She wants Grissom but is not certain what he wants or how they word even stay together.
This book was a delight to read. Excellent writing and I was happy to see a different storyline. Highly recommend.
I LOVE historic fictions, I'm a big fan of everything old world... but I'm also a big fan of shifter/paranormal's. So when I started reading 'Grizzly Bear's Bride' I found myself transported back in time, a time when the world was still young, where you travelled by rail, river or carriage. I quickly felt my heart wrench at the Ruby's predicament, but she makes the best of everything... for the continuance of her family. What can I say about Grissom, he fights his very nature throughout the book, he stays a true gentlemen.
I love the start to the new series "Greystone Shifters" that Viola & Cealen are co-writing & can't wait to read what else they come up with.
I was given an ARC by the author for an honest revierw.
I can't say i disliked this book...i got a bit confused by the era it takes place but all in all i have to say it was a good story.
Ruby follows her fiancee out of boston to a new place but at a point her father is lost and she goes off to look for him Grissom is a bear shifter that patrols the land of his kind when the scent of honey captures him and is off to see what it was. The two get into much trouble when Grissom agrees to help Ruby find her father. Can they get out of their troubles and keeping their distance from one another?
Fast paces ,intresting story and a good start to a new series of book.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. I've read titles by Viola Rivard previously, and liked them. I'd have to say the collaboration of this book with Caelan Snow was a great decision because I loved this book! It had me wanting to pick the book back up as soon as I was forced to put it down for daily life. The intimate scenes were wonderful, and therefore not enough of them. ;) I hope to see more like these. I see that there was a preview of Ruby's friend, and Grissom's friend getting together. After briefly meeting Rafe I thought he would have been the next book since he is so mysterious. Thanks for the great read!!
In the old west Ruby, her father, younger brother and best friend try to start a new life following her betrothed. But Fredrick is not a good person and his real goal is found to be gold. After Fredrick and Ruby's father go out into the wild and Fredrick leaves him there, Ruby goes looking for her father but find a hands-on male bear shifter. But trouble arrives by them being on Lakota land. Lots more happens and you'll have to read the rest to find out more. This is a well written and very entertaining story to read.
in the shifter town of Greystone they had one lone bear shifter named Grisson. while Mojag his wolf shifter friend didn't like humans much Grisson didn't have a problem with them after all his mom was human. Then he caught scent of Ruby and you could say he like her even more! oh this was a great story, so well written full of action and drama. It's a shifter book set in a mix of western and native American setting. Great new series, I can't wait for the next book. book was given for an honest and I can honestly say I loved it
Grizzly Bear's Bride is a paranormal story set in the old west days. A party from Boston is heading to the Dakota Territories to find gold and start a new life. Frederick and Ruby are to be married. She is traveling with her father, younger brother, and her friend. Things happen and she runs into Grissom while trying to locate her lost father. In order to save Ruby and her father from the Lakota Indians, Grissom has to reveal that he is a shifter.
It is a good story and enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next part.
Viola is setting up a new series that looks to be fun reads!! Grissom & Ruby's story is charming and I wish it had been longer - there was so much more that could have been told in the story - so I hope the 2nd will be longer! Another type of shifter story which she pulls off very well - in order to shift.... well, I won't spoil the story, LOL!! In the copy I received free for my honest review, there were some pages missing - which would have been the Lakota shifters attacking the settlement - but I was able to construct that in my head, lol! I will be purchasing the rest of the series!
Grissom is a bear shift, grizzly to be exact of the Greystone community. As an enforcer it's his job to watch the community and keep it safe. Ruby is a new human to the area soon to be married to a dreadful man. Who has only one thing on his mind. Grissom catches a smell so delicious, he has to find out what it is? As he gets closer he finds that it goes to human settlement. What will he find and will she be willing?
Ruby has gone out alone into the wilderness searching for her father. Her fiancé Frederick, left him out there to die when they were attacked by wild animals. If only she didn't feel so lost and alone. Grissom smells the sweetest honey ever, and it's coming from a human female, what's she doing alone in the woods. When she sees him shift into a bear to protect her father from a pack of animals, her life is forever changed.
*Arc received for review* This story was cute with its old time feel (which I had to get used to) and Good story line. Grissom is a well-mannered bear shifter who is loyal to the cause of good and evil as well as justice. He is so determine to prove the girl innocent. Ruby is just a woman trying to take care of her family but by putting herself through a loveless relationship until Grissom. I’m curious to see where this series will go.
Wonderful story! This was a great story, a classic kind of tale with a shifter twist! I loved Grissom and Ruby was such a tenacious woman. I am a sucker for happy endings and this book had a great one! I highly recommend this book as a great story to read and leaves you with a heart warming smile! I received an ARC copy of this book for my review and I loved it.
