A night out on the tiles turns into something rather unexpected and rather frightening...although intriguing. Stacia Delaney gets more than she bargained for, when she just happens to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time. But she leaves with a lot more than she bargained for.
Lola Allen is a London based independent author and teacher. Her début novel The Heartless Game is her MA Creative Writing project, and a story that is very close to her heart.
"The issues raised, such as friendship, betrayal and love, are all themes that resonate deeply with me."
Lola passionately believes in creative writing as a tool to expand and educate young minds, and pushes for this in her teaching.
"I believe that words are the best weapons by which we can use to express ourselves. No matter who you are, or where you're from, everyone has a story to tell. "
It would be too obvious and somewhat cliché to proclaim romance author, Lola Allen’s novel as captivating, but as Occam’s Razor says, the simplest answer is often correct. Captive captures and holds the reader from the first word to the last. Allen achieves this by employing the seductive yet vulnerable point of view of Stacia Delaney. Allen comes right out of the gates in first place with a club scene that will make you want to find a more private place to finish this scorching must read. That’s right, it’s erotica, erotic romance to be exact and done beautifully to near perfection. Allen sets the tone with the “mesmerizing sound of Donna Summer’s breathy voice” and for my part, all I could hear was the 1975 sizzling song, Love To Love You Baby.
There’s no way to tell much more about this story and not give it all away as the title somewhat does, but it’s not the secret of the story that captures you, but the mysterious, unknown ride that Allen sets in motion for Stacia Delaney and the unsuspecting reader. Recommended with a cool glass of water and a short period of solitude.
This was a good start to what could have been great without the kidnapping. It didn't add to their connection. Their attraction made since. The rest of the reason didn't add to their connection. I did like the ending but wanted more for it truly to come together.
