Checkmate, Gabriel ;) Well played and very crafty indeed!!

I know this review sounds cryptic, but don’t want to give anything away.

I highly recommend this awesome companion novella, and promise you will want to dive right into it after devouring ”Jezebel.”

So worth it!!

This novella is amazing and short that should be read immediately after reading Jezebel. It is told by Matteo’s point of view. I absolutely devour this book, it was short but it held every answer to every question I had after finishing Jezebel. I can’t tell you much because it will ruin Jezebel for you. However, I can tell you this author delivered perfectly with this book giving us everything that happened during the lost years of Jezebel. It gave me closure; yes if you were looking for the “HEA” well it is all right here. I couldn’t have imagined it. It was just EPIC. I knew I loved Matteo but man all the feelings and emotions on this story were so perfectly written I was madly in love with it. This was defiantly a finale twenty years in the making and I loved it from beginning to end.

I'm speechless! Once again not what I expected at all, but like I said before K Larsen is a genus. Her writing is impeccable keeping me at the edge of my seat waiting for what? I dunno, just not the ending I thought. I was sucked in the very first chapter of Jezebel and wanted more from Lying in Wait. 5 Stunned Stars! I loved it! :D

5 “Fiore Mio” Stars!

description

Lying in Wait is a companion novella to Jezebel. It should be read after Jezebel. The timeline opens basically after Jezebel ends but it takes you to the pivotal moment between Celeste and Gabriel when they met at Eifel Tower. This novella is told from the POV of Matteo and Celeste by virtue of her journal entries. Celeste’s thoughts are raw and emotional as she processes her past and future.

“Love is powerful. It can heal, it can lift - it can also drag you down into the depths of hell and burn you until you’re no longer recognizable.”

Quite a few questions of mine were answered in this novella and it reinforced the deeper connection between Celeste and Matteo. I enjoyed reading about how it all started on that fateful day and how the story ends. If you’ve read Jezebel, this novella is a must!

This is the companion novella to Jezebeland must be read after.

This book is told from Matteo's POV and answers many of the lingering questions I had after reading Jezebel.

I will say, I understood Celeste's heartbreak but didn't quite understand her spiteful vengeance. I would say, she took it to the extreme.

Great novella!

****4.5 Stars****

For a short story this was quite impressive.

Not enough though.

What about Gabriel? Did he ever love Cece?

Was he really a cold bastard in a relationship with Monique behind Celeste's back?

Are we getting one more book?

To be read after Jezebel. Here is my review for whole series. Spoiler free.

Such a deliciously dark read that's masterfully written with clues sprinkled along the way, Jezebel is an intense story about love and deception.

You think you know what's going to happen, you think you've solved the clues, you will be so wrong!!!! The ending will blow your mind.

Some words of caution - DON'T READ SPOILERS, DON'T READ THE ENDING, JUST START THE BOOK NOW!! Also, spend the extra $1 and get the boxed set because it has 2 companion stories. Basically 2 epilogues - Lying in Wait and Aftermath. Boxed set is also available on Kindle Unlimited. Trust me, you’ll want to read all three to get the full effect.

Jezebel tells the story of high school senior Annabelle who reports for court appointed community service at a memory care assisted living facility for patients with early onset dementia There she meets Jezebel, a 50-something patient and immediately starts up a friendship. Each week Annabelle meets with Jezebel and listens to the older woman tell her about an epic love story. At first it reminded me of The Princess Bride, where Fred Savage is listening to his grandfather read him a story while he's home sick. In the movie, like in the book, you get a little past and present.

"Oh but my dear, every great love story has a twist. If there's no twist, how does one ever know if their love can endure?"

The romantic in me savored every bit of the love story and the cold-hearted snake in my was actually shocked with the twist.

If you love a good mystery with a gasp worthy twist, you will love this book!!!

Wow!!! I'm so glad now that I read the prequel to Jezebel

It made things clearer.. It made me look at Jezebel in a slightly different way.

Once again I won't give you any idea what its about because you need to read Jezebel first and you need to do that blind.
Although the book is not long, it helps to fill in missing parts...

But did it give me the closure I wanted...

It was a clever story that once again kept my interest and it just makes me want more...so K. Larsen

This novella was necessary. There were so many questions I had and wanted answered. This addition pretty much answered all of those. However, it did not leave me feeling satisfied and I almost wish I hadn't read it and just stopped with the first book and let these characters live the way I saw them in my mind. I did not like how the characters motivations and actions were portrayed. I know I should have been feeling sympathy and empathy toward them...instead I found their actions cold and heartless and morally wrong, and I couldn't get behind what they felt they needed to do. Maybe it's just me??? The storytelling and the story itself were still a brilliant piece of work.

"They say the morning after a storm brings the most incredible beauty. That the sky produces the most magnificent colors. That the air is still and calm. That you could sit for hours after watching the sunrise and feel the most spectacular sense of peacefulness.
They lie.
The morning after a storm simply means another one is lying in wait."

Yikes! This novella is a quick read, but it packs a punch.

Told from Matteo's POV and via CeCe's journal, you get to see all the planning that led to the shocking ending in Jezebel. As darkness and revenge consume them. I was surprised at everything that was involved in their big plan.

But we get a HEA. *smirks*

I enjoyed this novella. It is written from Matteo's POV and fills in the "missing scenes" we didn't read about in Jezebel. Only thing I wanted from this series that I didn't get was something from Gabriel's perspective. I wanted more insight into his thoughts and suffering at the end, which would have made the series more satisfying for me, I think. I selfishly want more!

UGH. Should not have read this. It is written well but it has nothing I was looking for. I wanted Gabriel’s reaction; I wanted to feel him fully realize what had all transpired. And I wanted in his head while that happened. What I got was two deeply depraved people reveling and swooning over how free they felt . Cold, cold, cold. That is how I feel now. I would have rather left my head spinning than reading that.

More like a 3.5 star read..i just kept thinking can anyone really feel "free" and "happy" after carrying out these vengeful acts? but then again in their world, they just might..what i would have really liked is to read about Gabriel..his thoughts, his emotions, his regret( if any)..etc... but alas, for now at least it seems... i have to be content with this...

A very informative read, lol. I still have soooooo many questions about Gabriel. Did he ever love Celeste, Did he realize who was behind his downfall, Was he ever remorseful... I need a novella about Gabriel. Please. But this was a really good read and I love Matteo so much.

This was actually a good companion novella. Not a retell but more insight. Some questions were answered from Jezebel but not all. Too bad They both just couldn't find peace in their love of each other and move on.

First of all - make sure you read Jezebel first. This book definitely wraps up a few things, and fills in some blanks. After finishing Jezebel, I just had to read this asap - and was so glad I did. I devoured it - and got some of my questions answered....I think!

THIS is what was missing from "Jezebel" for me. I needed all these extra details. I would have loved if it was all just compiled as one book but I'm happy this novella exists.

So while I really liked Jezebel, I did not love this one. This book is not really needed and does not add enough to the story. This book is also misnamed it should DEFINETLY be book 1.5 NOT book 0.5 in the series. The timeline in concurrent with Jezebel it doesn't happen before & it will ruin Jezebel with spoilers. You must read Jezebel first and maybe even skip this one. This is told as a combination of Matteo's POV and him reading Cece's journal. To me the only thing of value was you see how/why Cece and Teo disappear and how/why Gavin & Monica end up in America.

I would rather have seen what happens to Jezebel after leaving the nursing home or what happens to Gavin.

4.5 stars. Great insight on the absolute psycho world Celeste lived in and roped Matteo into. You were able to see what her recovery was, her plan and her execution. I have a small qualm between the book and the novella in how it was a little far fetched with today's technology and Jezebel was never being found out....but no matter it was a great read and I would love to see what happened to Gabriel in the aftermath.

I seriously needed this novella! Wow, this was great and really helped me to process the entire scenario!

I LOVED that it was Matteo's POV which I wasn't expecting. But wow, what an incredible story!

WOW! I wasnt expecting that! I really liked Mateo but after reading this...Im not sure.
They both sound psychotic to me. Why not just bribe the tennis coach? Why bury him alive??!!
That was cold, I wasnt expecting them to be ruthless. Years of plotting, and killing in cold blood and Celeste
happy about the killings. It was all kinds of wrong.
