Quinn Copeland is starting fresh in a new town where nobody knows about her past. Chronically shy, she is determined to find her courage at her new job at the town veterinary clinic. But when a stoic stranger catches her in a moment of emotional turmoil, she learns that even the toughest looking men can have warm hearts. Unfortunately for her, Dade Keller keeps his secrets close to the vest, and what she doesn’t know about him could kill her.
Dade doesn’t feel anything. Not until he finds a mousy vet technician huddled in a corner crying. Human, submissive, and shy, Quinn couldn’t be further from what he would need in a mate. The Breck Crew is in the middle of a crisis that will alter their fate forever and throw their loved ones in the crosshairs of the human public. The last thing a woman like Quinn needs is to be weighed down by what he is, but his reluctant attention to her doesn’t go unnoticed, and keeping her out of harm’s way isn’t possible anymore.
With their deepest secrets exposed, Quinn will have to find her bravery and decide if Dade’s fight is now her fight, too.

Another enjoyable werebear romance! This was a short read, but that didn't take away from the story or the character depth. Ill definitely continue this series.
This was another quick story that really packed a punch. From the what happened to Quinn and outed the bears to her impassioned speech at the end. The Keller's and their allies did what needed to be done to protect themselves amid chaos.
What Is It About: Quinn has recently moved to town to work as a vet. Dade is a bear shifter and firefighter. He feels an instant connection with Quinn when he sees her but with the government sniffing around the Keller family, his interest will put her in danger. But when he can no longer resist, she's put in harms way and he must do the unthinkable to save her.
What I Liked and Didn't: I didn't really care for either of the main characters. The plot just kind of overshadowed any characterisation and build up of the relationship. Quinn just came off as weak, too weak to be able to deserve any of this, plus the fact her husband died was just randomly chucked into the mix which was never mentioned again. I can't even remember a single thing about Dade other than the fact I felt sorry for him when he said that Boone is Cody's favourite because he saved him first. Plot-wise, it was pretty entertaining. I always like reading books that include supernaturals coming out to the public. I think that this was a pretty realistic representation considering what little shits humans can be when scared. If anything, I expected more violence.
Final Thoughts: I think the plot made it easy to read but I'd say the characters brought down the entire book. I just didn't care about the characters individually and certainly didn't care if they got a happily ever after together. Would I recommend it? Eh, maybe not on it's own but to carry on the story, I suppose so. Will I be carrying on the series? Sure, I like the entire series and I just have to work through one more Fire Bear book to get back on track.
Meh. It's an ok read, but so far I haven't been enjoying the Fire Bears series as much as I do the Saw Bears. The problem for me is that there's a bit too much action and politics in this series and not enough relationship building.
Just like in Bear My Soul, I loved the start of the book, and then shortly after the MCs started talking to each other, they got sucked into stuff that pushed their relationship level from a 1 to a 10 in like one chapter.
And the town hall scene at the end was just kind of awkward and cringy. The chapter when Quinn hangs out with the Breck Crew for the first time has a much better "ending" feel.
I'll continue with the series simply because I like the author's writing, but I'm not blown away with it.
Quinn is a Vet tech working at the local clinic in town. She is a shy, soft-hearted women and is easily affected by hurt animals. Dade is a sexy bear who is part of the fire department. He was asked to take the station dog for his annual check. He excepted the dog to wine and fight him, but didn't think he would fall for Quinn. But knowing IESA is back and trying to cause trouble, he stays away from her. Only the agent Shenya has other things in mind and sets the vet on fire, with her caught inside. Seeing how bad Quinn is, Dade has no choice but to turn her. Only problem it was on camera and now everyone knows what they are.
Will their town accept them, or will the government win and get them all killed??
This book sets the scene as shifters are revealed. Badly scarred H falls for the h at first sight. She's shy and he's horrified when he realises to save her life he must Change her. At first she seemed shy and weak but their story reveals her quiet strength. Loved this couple.
The MFC is so soft hearted - I liked this about her. The first time he meets her she's crying over a dying dog. As with most people, the MMC thinks this means she is weak, which flies in the face of all logic since she is strong enough to care so much and live with the suffering that comes with that. He figures this out eventually.
I thought it odd that she gets so upset about being turned into an animal shifter when she is a vet and loves animals.
“You’ve turned me into a freak, Dade! What kind of normal life can I lead now?”
She gets over it with time.
“The animal lover in her was just as accepting of her new inner furry rider as it was scared for her future.”
Their conversations about why he Changes her are well written and carried me through their thought processes in a way that was relatable.
I also want to acknowledge how balanced these characters are. She has already had a husband she loved - an adult relationship - so she is the more mature one in this sense. He has been turned into a heartless weapon by our government and has to learn to feel again. He comes around nicely by the end,
“I like her sappy,” Dade admitted…. “She cares about the things I’d forgotten were important.”
I wanted this one to be way longer. I loved Dade and Quinn . The whole bear shifters coming out to the public story line is intense. Overall, I felt like everything was too rushed but I am looking forward to the next one 😊
"Whether that man was soft or tough, nice or not, Quinn's instincts screamed that Dade was trouble."
"Because you're mine " The words came out gritty and low, almost too quiet for her to make them out. "What?" "Because my animal chose you. Because I want you. Because I can't see anything but you."
"Everyone has dark places in them, myself included. It matters what you do to keep those shadows small."
"She loved him as he was, wild and on edge, but Dade like this, tender and affectionate, plucked at her heartstrings and attached them to him, one by one."
"First off, it's impossible not to like you, and second, I'd maul anyone who doesn't."
I had a hard time finishing this. It felt kind of dramatic in places. I liked the first book better. I enjoyed it, I just think I’m in a bit of a book slum right now and nothing is pleasing me.
This was not my favorite by a stretch. Some of her older stories you can tell, especially by reading her new stuff, that she was still finding her voice.
In any series that you’ve invested time and emotions into there are going to be pivotal stories, ones that resonate just a bit more with that part of your reading soul that connects with these characters. Bear The Burn was one of those stories for me. Every author creates their own unique universe. In some Shifters are hiding in plain sight, but keep their secrets to themselves and their mates. Others have Shifters living among us as a natural thing, no big deal. But rarely do we get to see that transition from hiding and secretive to exposing themselves to a wary world. In the real world that we readers live in we have seen numerous, every day occurrences of people who are shunned, hated and feared simply because of a label. The mob mentality is a very real thing.
Bear The Burn begins a change in the Shifter world. While the members of the Beck Crew had already begun thinking about showing themselves to the world as a way to stop the blackmailing tendencies of the IESA and others who would use them for their dirty work or endanger their own families – it wasn’t Cody’s plan to come out quite like this.
When Dade first met Quinn there was a spark of interest, this tiny human who had such a tender heart pulled him towards her without knowing it. He refused to think of mates. There was no way this shy, submissive human could possibly be his mate, they were far too different. And besides, he had stopped feeling long ago so how could he offer that love for a lifetime to anyone when he could care less if he lived or died. But fate will not be denied. When a she-dog threatens Dade and anyone he holds dear, he doesn’t acknowledge that he’s protecting Quinn by trying to stay away from her or by watching over her from afar. Yet when Quinn is trapped in a burning Veterinarian clinic, and her life is in true danger finally Dade will acknowledge that she is his mate – and he will do anything to save her life… including showing Shifters to a world of humans who are not ready for that knowledge.
Quinn and Dade are such an opposites attract couple. Yet when the craziness dies down, when Quinn has the chance to understand and care for Dade, the complete rightness of this couple is obvious. Quinn’s fiery devotion to Dade and her new Shifter family comes shining through during an impassioned speech near the ending of this story. The shy little mouse stood up and gave a huge bear roar, and people listened.
Things are changing for the Beck Crew, life will never be the same again. And things will get worse long before they have a chance to get better. This is the story that begins the changes for all of the characters in the connected series of Saw Bears – Fire Bears – Gray Back Bears – Boarlander Bears – and even into the future in Harper’s Mountains. It is a fascinating journey. I would suggest that you visit T. S. Joyce’s website and follow her recommended reading order for these series. There is a spot where two of the series overlap and her reading order makes the events happening much easier to follow.
Would I recommend this story and these series? hell, yeah! We get a far different look into the world of Shifters and their mates. It is an Incredible journey with characters that I’ve come to care about. If you love Shifter Romance, then these are stories that you need to discover.
Finally the secret is out! Word of advice is to follow the recommended reading order for the other books in these series. I started at the very end and am picking and chossing my way through the series as I go.
This story was interesting when it comes to the love story of the main characters. Start out rocky and get to deep love in a matter of days.
Love the twist on tradition shifter stories. This deals with what happens when shifters are exposed- normally books only deal with the possibility of being exposed. Took something that could have been really heavy, but gave it a great happy romance ending.
This book is barely held together by the sex scenes... seriously...
Dade, as a male character in a "dominant"-male book I'm surprised he was so melodramatic. I'm not sure but I think he was more level headed in the previous installment, because in this one he has lost his mind and common sense. His handling of certain problems with Quinn and their relationship leaves a lot to be desired. While they could've been excused by how much stress they are under, I actually believe the stress should be the reason why he would be a lot more careful with how he handles things or how he presents himself.
Quin, the female lead for this book was rather disappointing. While her introduction made me feel empathy and a small connection she soon starts to feel weak and melodramatic. It's rather laughable the comparisons she makes to her life "difficulties" to Dade's, while I'm not one to comment on what someone considers painful, there are things that should never be done, like comparing traumatic events in an attempt to prove something, she's a weak character and can't show otherwise. It's also annoying that because I've read other books by TS Joyce I recognize her background as read before in another book. While it's normal for authors to find themselves in such a pickle, their books are supposed to be edited and proof read before publishing, so... what? Nobody noticed they were using the same gag?
Repetitive is a thing with TS Joyce, sadly. More than once I've mentioned the repetitive use of words but now we have character's opinions, like saying they aren't good enough for their mates or even their plot points. Or the idea that loyal men keep old-beat-up-junk-cars, how did we reach that conclusion so easily as if it is a fact of life?
Shayna, a lame character who appeared as a plot device in book 1 comes back with the same purpose in life for this book. She's so plot-device-y it's stupid. I honestly hate how she's made so binary like either "I'm gonna kill you" or "I'm gonna fuck you". What does this say about TS Joyce's view of women? Villains shouldn't be so short sighted or binary. For a character who's been re-used she has no background, no importance, no weight, she could be interchanged with anything and the plot would carry on. There's a scene where she's trapped and I was immediately put out of the flow of the story because of how little thought went for the situation, not only did the character acted stupidly but also, it's obvious she was used, again, as a plot device to get the female lead to say something or do something that's out of character but is supposed to create tension and to connect the couple further but it doesn't work... because the situation is stupid, it made the lead female sound and look self-centered, weak and ridiculous. Not to mention it made other (supposedly top-notch tracker) characters seem useless, it took away importance from a character that's supposed to be all powerful and made him look cheap.
Aso, there the IESA character, I mean, the gubernamental entity created for this universe. It's rather unbelievable that any government agency would allow such clumsy handling of such a delicate issue. There were so many varied ways in which the problems could've been solved and none were considered. As a reader I don't fear them, hate them or even care about them... there mean nothing.
Then, there are more inconsistencies, now a sort of spice for TS Joyce's books. It's obvious she has a soft magic system in use for all books but it takes away from the immersion in the book when it's rather obvious the time it takes for a wound to heal depends on whether TS J. wants the wound to be seen or not, instead of following a clear law of their nature or their magics. It's unsatisfactory as an answer... and speaking of answers, this questions appears eventually in the book and isn't answered, maybe because TS J. herself doesn't have an answer to that?
I liked a scene by the middle of the book, at a town meeting. It made sense, was emotional but not silly... well, maybe a little silly but the good-kind-of silly. Another character is mentioned in a way that it sounds she'll have more to do in the future. I'm unsure about the epilogue tho, while there's a scene all-together-now that's understandable there's another that sounds more like the characters forgot what their entire book was about.
So... nope, this book was at times frustrating and at others boring. Don't buy it, rent it or loan it if you wanna read it, but don't buy it. It's not worth the coin.
Enjoyed this book the best so far. I liked Quinn and her animal loving nature. I am similar in the way I get upset over animals dieing more so than I guess humans (I'm not heartless I swear). I loved how protective he felt over her so quickly. I thought their chemistry and the side story was interesting and I'm looking forward to this series going forward with the world knowing about shifters and how that will change the dynamics of future books following this.
This is the second book in the Fire Bears series and they should be read in order. Quinn is trying to start over where no one knows her or her past. Dade is damaged by everything he has had to do. He doesn’t have feelings for anyone who isn’t his family. That is till he meets a quiet girl crying in the corner at the vet’s office. His bear calls for him to go to her but he needs to stay away from her to keep her safe. The government isn’t done with his family and he doesn’t want to bog down Quinn with his life. Then he learns he doesn’t get to have everything he wants. Quinn is in danger even if he isn’t with her and his forced to do the unthinkable. He outs his kind to the public by changing Quinn to save her life. Now he must help her through the transition from human to shifter. We will she be able to forgive him for what he has done or will he wind up alone anyway? The book was hear breaking. Dade thought he could save her by acting like he wasn’t interested in her but that didn’t stop IESA. Poor Quinn she was confused by Dade’s hot and cold act and now she about to learn more than she could ever imagine. The world now knows about the existence of shifters. The family will now have to deal with people who aren’t accepting of them and their kind. How will the family deal with all the attention? I love this book and it is a very pivotal point in the series. I can’t wait to see how this affects the other shifters and what happens with this group of characters next. I can’t get enough of this series or of T.S. Joyce’s books.
You know when you start a new series, and you can’t help but keep downloading the next book in the series. By the time you have finished you haven’t written a single review because you are too engrossed in reading the next book on that Authors shelf. Yep, I know J.S Joyce has hundreds of reviews.
If you haven’t picked up a book by this Author yet, you definitely need to take a peek.
Dade Keller is all alpha male and as stubborn as they come. He is fighting the inevitable where Quinn Copeland is concerned. She isn’t what he was expecting at all, but then fate does have a funny way of turning lives upside down even for a shifter.
Quinn is new to the area and hoping to fit in. Her past isn’t something she ever wishes to talk about. She’s so quiet and shy and pretty much keeps to herself.
Secrets always have a way of coming out. The Kellers have been hiding so many for a long time. When a fire breaks out and the fire department arrives at the scene, the public get a birds-eye view of a lot more than they’d ever bargain for.
No matter what happens to this family they will always stick together. This book was another gripping read and I was eager to download the next one.
Bear the Burn is the second book in the Fire Bears series. This is Dade’s and Quinn’s book. Dade is a tough and handsome firefighter like his brothers, while Quinn is a shy and beautiful veterinarian technician.
Dade and Quinn are good characters, but for some reason I didn’t feel as though we really got to know them that well. This is a shorter book than some of the others, but it served a huge purpose.
I’ve obviously read these books out of order since this is the book where the shifters come out to the public for the first time. It’s when we are introduced to Cora Wright, the news reporter who is mentioned in many of the future books. I’ve read a number of the other series where this event had already occurred because the characters were having to register their existence to the government. If you check the author’s website, there is a reading order for some of the books but unfortunately it’s not a complete list. The good thing is that it really doesn’t take away from enjoying the other stories by reading them out of order. It just would have been nice to have read them correctly to prevent spoilers.
Another amazing book this set has me hoocked! 2 books on one day!
What a heartbreaking story for dades finding his mate and having to do his best to stay away from her to keep her safe but no matter how much dade tried his mate still ended up almost losing her life.. panic taking over dade when his firefighting craw pull up to the job they been called to.. the clinic his mate works at is in flames and dade instantly goes into panic made when someone tell his a women stuck in there. Using every bit of strength dade as he reaches Quinn but is it to late for her as a beam has landed on her squashing her legs and leaving her with really bad burns.. with help from his brothers he gets his mate outside and is left without a chose watch his mate die or turn her infront of everyone and the news reporters.. outing the entire shifters community? Dade takes no chances going against his Alpha his turns his infront of everyone.. will Quinn live or are her injuries to bad evan her animal can’t change her.. will she evan forgive dade for what he did to her?
I think so far of this series this was my least favorite.
I just never really bought the relationship and the way that Quinn acted didn't seem very believable. I do think the story would have been a lot better if it was like twice as long, it really was just missing the relationship development. It felt like most of the story revolved around the bears coming out and it just took up all of the story.
*Spoilers*
I just really didn't buy how quick it all happened. They met three times for probably less than 20 mins total. No date or anything. Then she gets turned into a bear and really doesn't even seem upset or anything. And then within 24 hours they are jumping in bed together and saying they loved each other? Idk even for a shifter/mate scenario it was still way too fast for me. Not to mention how probably emotionally scared they both were on top of it for things to happen so quickly emotionally.
I will continue reading this series randomly when I want something short to read, but I really wish I could find some bear shifter books that were longer stories with more character development.
My favorite of the series to date - Highly recommend T.S. Joyce
Contains subject matter that may be offensive or a trigger for some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence.
The story of Quinn and Dade is well written, has good flow and a great pace, especially for a story this length. The characters are also well developed and it was very easy to be engaged with the story. So if you are looking for a few hours to escape reality, I highly recommend this story and the various series connected to an overall arc.
In this story, the Breck crew are struggling with the decision to declare to the public that bear shifters exist. That decision is made easier when Dade's mate is threatened. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm going to stop here.
While this could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading in order for maximum enjoyment and to prevent spoilers.
Very happy with this book. I am excited to get to the next book. I have read the ash crew books and they have always talked about this Cora and I never knew who it was and now I’ll know!!!! These books are very good. I will say that I love the books that follow this series more.... but.. I will say that these are definitely good! Dade is a great strong man that has kept himself so blocked and turned off emotionally that meeting his mate knocks him on his butt. His mate is soft and sweet. She has a compassionate heart with core strength of steal. She has been through some heartbreak and survived. She was falling for Dade even when he was trying to save her by staying away. Basically hot and cold. I can say I’ve loved these books are short fun quick reads for me and I love them. Sometimes I wish there were more to them. 5 stars
Discrimination and hate for the unknown can be devastating - learning to accept n listen and turn hate to love priceless!
Quinn a sensitive heart has taken on a job to be a vet technician. She loves animals and doesn't feel comfortable with people. Dade falls for her first sight but fear for her safety avoids her. The secret government agency is using the shifters to do their undercover dirty work and threatening their family and their lives and existence if they don't comply. It is sick and twist using government power over them. It shows the ugly side of people and the humanity of mankind also. Violence3, sex2 a moving story of fear n hate and yet empathy and love.

Just didn’t come across as a sensible read. Yes, more happens in regards to the brothers and IESA but overall I didn’t feel any connection to Quinn and definitely not to Dade. Hated what happen to Quinn but it was interesting how the brothers outed themselves. I just found this story lacking with information and the fact Quinn seems to have no after effects from her serious burns strange. Where is the pain and pulling of her skin healing, especially when having sex? Liked the reporter and her attitude. Hope she is in more books. Having Shayna back and how she was and her OTT actions was just too silly for words. All of a sudden this simple minion seems to be higher echelon in IESA. Glad she gets dealt with. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
