I’ve read the first two Abigail Morton books so I was really looking forward to seeing where Charlie would take Abigail next.
And this one is dark. The idea of a killer searching for his “perfect victim” is seriously creepy, especially when you realise just how specific his requirements are. Lizzy’s experience made for some uncomfortable reading, and I was completely invested in seeing how her story would help Abigail get closer to the person responsible.
I think the series has gotten stronger with each book. Abigail is becoming a character I’m properly invested in. She’s not afraid to bend the rules when she needs to, but always with the best intentions.
Charlie’s writing really works for me. There’s a real authenticity to the police side of the story, which isn’t surprising given his own background in policing, and I like that the investigation feels believable without getting bogged down in unnecessary detail.
Three books in and I was hooked on Abigail’s story and Charlie’s writing. As much of a slog as these promo tours are for you @writercharliegallagher ☀️ 🌊 🏊🏻 👀 you’re going to have to just keep going.

There is something about the Abigail Morton series that gets under my skin, and The Perfect Victim is no exception. This third instalment is dark, tense and genuinely frightening, not because it relies on shock value, but because the events feel all too believable. It is one of those stories that stays with you long after you've finished reading.
One of the things I enjoy most about this series is that Charlie Gallagher takes us into a world that many readers, myself included, know very little about. The role of a source handler is fascinating, and the moral and ethical dilemmas that come with the job often seem to clash with our expectations of police work. It makes for compelling reading, and Gallagher's knowledge and research shine through on every page.
What I particularly liked about this novel was the way the story evolved. Just as I thought I knew where the investigation was heading, the focus shifted in an entirely different direction. What begins with the pursuit of relatively low-level drug dealers develops into something much darker, involving murder and sexual abuse. It is a bold change of direction, but one that works brilliantly and raises the stakes considerably.
Abigail once again proves why she is such an engaging central character. She is determined, fearless and, at times, incredibly frustrating as she ignores orders and throws herself into dangerous situations. Yet she has an instinct that few others possess, and although her methods may not always be conventional, they consistently produce results. It is easy to understand why those around her place so much trust in her, even when they are left wondering what she will do next.
The investigation itself is intricate and demands the reader's full attention. There were moments when I had to stop and think about how all the threads fitted together, but for me that was part of the enjoyment. This is not a novel that spoon-feeds its readers; it expects you to keep up, and the payoff is well worth the effort.
The relationship between Abigail and Vince remains one of the strongest elements of the series. There is a quiet loyalty between them that doesn't need grand gestures. Vince understands Abigail better than most and, no matter how exasperating she can be, he never hesitates to stand beside her when she needs him most.
I have become completely addicted to this series, and each new book leaves me eager for the next. The Perfect Victim is another gripping, intelligent and thoroughly absorbing addition, and I shall be eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

Charlie Gallagher has quickly become one of my favourite crime fiction authors. His ability to spin a tale that is completely captivating while also being genuinely horrific is second to none. He keeps the pace relentless from beginning to end and while the story is uncomfortable at times, that only adds to the drama and the desperate need to find out what is going to happen next.
This book was no exception. I raced through it because I genuinely could not put it down.
I particularly love the Abigail Morton series. She is such a fascinating character and having read a couple of Charlie’s books featuring her, I was really interested to see how she dealt with being a victim herself while trying to lead the investigation into what was happening. She knows she is compromised and that she probably should not be involved in the case, but stepping away is clearly never going to be an option for Abigail.
I love that she is a strong female lead with a real stubborn streak. There are elements of her that remind me of Angela Marsons’ DI Kim Stone. She wants justice and while she tries to work within the law, she is also willing to push the boundaries when she believes the usual processes are getting in the way of doing what needs to be done. She is a risk taker, but never in a way that feels dangerously incompetent. Her decisions come from wanting to protect people and stop criminals before they can cause more harm.
And that urgency runs through the entire book.
There are so many twists and turns and the story becomes increasingly dark as it unfolds. Gallagher does not give you much opportunity to catch your breath, which made the need to find the killer and stop what was happening feel completely immediate.
Another thing I love about Charlie Gallagher’s books is that you can read them in any order. There is no need to work through a long continuous plot to understand what is happening, so you can pick up whichever one takes your fancy.

The best one yet!
This latest instalment sets itself apart by putting Abigail's vulnerabilities front and centre. While her partnership with the ever lovable Vince remains the heart of the story, this case strikes a deeply personal chord.
Gallagher frames the devastating impact on victims through Abigail in a way that had me close to tears. Seeing our typically ruthless, determined, rule-breaking protagonist so unguarded made me love her all the more.
What struck me most is how the story lets her strength and her fragility sit side by side. This is the case that keeps chipping away at the armour she wears so well, and watching that quiet unraveling gave the book such an emotional weight.
Beneath the composed, capable detective is a woman carrying more than she'll ever admit, and this time it shows.
Refusing help as always, Abi pursues raw retribution. Her uncanny knack for making people talk, her sorcery as it's fondly known as, proves essential to untangling these brutal, humiliating crimes, even as it costs her something each time she uses it.
Then comes that ending. It completely took the wind out of my sails, delivering an unexpected outcome that felt undeniably right.
A superb five star thriller, and one of the most affecting books in the series so far. (Abi's love life may be a mess but I can't help but wonder if we'll see Liam again....)

The still somewhat fractured Divisional Source Unit on the Kent Coast led by DCI Paul Cotterill is back, comprising DC Abigail Morton, acting DS Emma Nixon, DC John Reeves, and the newest addition, well-seasoned street copper DC Vince Arnold. As Abigail’s newest probationary source into low level drug dealing finds himself set up and outed, she gets drawn into a fifteen-year-old case that may have an unresolved murder as a rumoured new crime shows alarming similarities. The question is whether the old perpetrator is back or whether someone else is copying him. Once again Abigail plunges headfirst into a dangerous situation with terrifying consequences which she dares not reveal and now finds herself with intimate knowledge of what her latest source has experienced. Chillingly she knows this woman will not be the last either unless she can crack the case before he finds his perfect victim.
This story has a rather slow build up to the real plot as the various strands introduced at the start are gradually and expertly woven together by an author who really knows his stuff, detailing the fascinating and strictly controlled world around source handling where protecting everyone concerned is paramount. Then the action really gets going as a dark and sinister case is revealed. The team is starting to gel, particularly the trust between Abigail and both her new partner Vince and boss Paul, and her instincts, something that cannot be taught, are crucial at times. This is fast becoming a very addictive series and I am looking forward to more.

An excellent fast-moving thriller that’s both dark and tense. Part in series but easy read as a stand-alone
Abigail Morton is part of a police team running informants. Most of her work is undercover
to protect the informant and herself. She prides herself on her street craft and with her hair
and tattoos easily blends in on the street. She takes on a new contact, a young male
student, but she’s warned that he will be too naive and gung-ho to be reliable. Ever the
maverick though Abi secretly takes him on. It all blows up when she gets a frantic phone
call from her new contact and yes he’s going it alone and in danger. Abigail goes to pull him
out but she has no back up and enters a darkened derelict office!.......She wakes up
battered and bruised but alive. She knows that she has suffered a serious assault and a
trophy slice of her hair has been taken from her. The similarities to recent sexual assault
involving a young female student and a link to a 15 year old attack and murder are striking!
Too ashamed to go cap in hand to her boss and too traumatised and angry to let things go,
she goes it alone to solve a 15 year old serious sex assault and murder.

OMG. I would recommend The Perfect Victim to anyone who will listen to me! This was exactly the kind of crime thriller I love — dark, disturbing, twisty and completely impossible to put down.
The premise had me hooked immediately. Lizzy wakes up trapped in a basement after having her drink spiked, seemingly matching exactly what her attacker has been searching for. But then, for some reason, he decides she isn’t quite the perfect victim — and lets her live. From that point onwards, I HAD to know what was going on.
I loved following Detective Abigail Morton as the investigation unfolded. There was a real race-against-time feeling as it became clear the attacker was still searching, and knowing another woman could be next kept the tension high throughout.

From the beginning, I was captured into this well written, tense, intriguing, gripping, page-turner of a storyline and plot.
There is many a revelation and twist, with strong Intresting characters.
This is book 3 in the Abigail Morton Thrillers and I've enjoyed getting to know her over the three books. Although her determination to get things done, has put her life in danger. But will she survive this time, with her go it alone attitude.
This does keep you guessing and as the tension built up, I was sat on the edge of my seat, heart pounding and holding my breath, in anticipation as to what would happen next.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this book to others, as with all books by Charlie Gallagher they won't be disappointed.
A few author's I always have their books on pre-order, and Charlie Gallagher is one of them.

There is many a revelation and twist, with strong Intresting characters.
This is book 3 in the Abigail Morton Thrillers and I've enjoyed getting to know her over the three books. Although her determination to get things done, has put her life in danger. But will she survive this time, with her go it alone attitude.
This does keep you guessing and as the tension built up, I was sat on the edge of my seat, heart pounding and holding my breath, in anticipation as to what would happen next.
I wouldn't hesitate recommending this book to others, as with all books by Charlie Gallagher they won't be disappointed.
A few author's I always have their books on pre-order, and Charlie Gallagher is one of them.

Abigail is the police liaison involved in a case where a girl has been assaulted. As she struggles to get the girl to open up, and follows up clues she’s pieced together, something happens to throw it all out the window. Hiding secrets from her team just may be Abigail’s downfall.
I didn’t realise this was part of a series, but it didn’t affect how I read and understood the book. I enjoyed this read. It had all the aspects I enjoy such as suspense and unknown. It took a while to get into for me and then I’d have preferred a faster pace. There were chapters from Abigail and a girl called Poppy. There were a few things that I’m still unclear of-I prefer the reveal to be for everything. I would still read another in the series though. Descriptions were detailed and dialogues true to life.

This book links stories from 15 years ago and today, where young college aged girls with pale skin, ginger hair and green eyes have gone missing. They reappear having been through an awful ordeal, remembering little, and having loat a chunk of hair.
Abigail Morton finds herself drawn deeply into the case when she makes a mistake.
I though Abigail went too far beyond the bounds of what would be allowable behaviour for her role at times but it didnt detract from the story which was clever and intense. The level of tension did not let up at any point.
I couldnt stop reading as I needed to know the truth. A really interesting broad range of characters, I loved Poppy and her motherly friend Angel-Marie contrasted with Elizabeth Oaken, beaten down by life.
Another great read by the wonderful Charlie Gallagher. One of my top authors.

The Perfect Victim by Charlie Gallagher is the third book in the Detective Abigail Morton series and what another excellent book this was, I ended up reading it till the early hours of the morning. If you love reading books about British crime thriller which is full of brilliant twists and turns with excellent characters, this is a series for you. Detective Abigail Morton is such a fascinating character. I have enjoyed reading about her from the very first book, especially as she is such a strong detective with her own problems and also being a victim herself, she is dealing with whilst trying to lead a big investigation. However, she should not be involved in this case but she can not step away from it, so she has to deal with it heads on!!! Superb!!!
Another 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ read.

I haven't read the first and second book but this was fine, I was easily able to read this like a standalone. The MFC is Detective Constable Abigail Morton of the Kent Police, a source handler who's job is to investigate at surface level whilst her colleagues dig deep. She gets caught up in the investigation and it soon becomes personal. Following this, she is seen as the only person her victim and witnesses can eventually open up to.
I enjoyed this as it read out just like a TV crime series and the emotion really shone through!
If you love a police procedural, check out this series!

This is another brilliant and riveting read from this author. Abigail's current attempt handling a source goes a bit awry but results in her getting involved in events at a college campus where someone is targeting a certain type of female student.
The pace is relentless throughout and Abigail is the stubborn and headstrong person who is willing to do what it takes to get the job done, even at her own expense and there is a particular part here where it looks like she was about to cross the line. It is an uncomfortable read throughout but one you won't want to stop reading. Absolutely brilliant.

The Perfect Victim is book 3 in the Detective Abigail Morton series and was equally as intense and creepy as the last one I read.
It’s told through several POVs which really adds to the growing unease you feel throughout the story. Abigail is yet again a formidable force - I really do love a strong female main character.
There were times where I felt sorry for characters and angry at others. It’s written very well and evokes all sorts of emotions.
It’s fast paced and made me so nervous (particularly as a pale, red head and green eyed person 😂) thankfully it’s just a book and I’m safe!
If you have any content triggers, I advise you to read any trigger warnings beforehand.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well written British crime thriller.

Abigail is a source handler with Kent Police, she "handles" informers to enable her unit to catch & convict criminals.
This one however is back after a 15 year gap , the case involved sexual crimes & a murder of young students, one of who was convicted of the crimes. He's out and the attacks resume. The author from here takes us on a journey involving Abigail , her informant William, Professor Cleaver, who is also Police Liaison, Abigails own DI and another from the serious crime unit.
It spirals towards the finish where a shock awaits as to the actual perpetrators identities. Seriously good book, 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone.

Third book in this series already and it is developing nicely. In this story we find Abigail who is meant to be looking out for victims, become one herself and thereafter how she actually deals with this situation and so it gives her a greater insight into those who she is trying to protect. I am glad that I am of a generation who could just go out and meet potential other halves nor worry about getting your drink spiked. Because the ultimate question is "who can you really trust!"

As usual with Charlie Gallagher this is a well conceived plot and has a slight twist on the usual. Abigail Morton when investigating a series of unusual kidnappings realises that the perpetrator is looking for a ‘perfect victim’ , one who matches a very precise physical appearance . The others have suffered , the perfect one will die. So, a good race against time thriller. Abigail is a perceptive investigator who is skilled at getting people to talk to her so we have faith in her. My 4 star review is because I do ,as always, sense a streak of misogyny in this author’s work.

Good supporting cast.

Once more we enter the world of source handler Abigail Morton. What a tense and frightening world it is. So many twists and turns in this outstanding third book of the series. Although not always an easy read once again Charlie Gallagher's talent as a writer shines through. Believable characters together with a fast paced suspenseful plot make this an must read. Absolutely brilliant!

This was certainly a gripping thriller where Abigail is plunged into a dark place which begins with a new source.
Young women are subjected to harrowing experiences but are they connected to a past crime? Abigail, source handler, plays a major part in what's going on and her emotions are tested. She is a complex character and this instalment delves deep.
All the characters suited this twisty plot. It was well-written and fast-paced, tense and suspenseful.
Highly recommended.

This is the first novel I’ve read by Charlie Gallagher. It didn’t disappoint. Now, I think I need to get the first two in this series so I can catch up.
It was fast-paced, the characters were likeable, and enough red herrings to keep me guessing until the reveal. I will admit, I didn’t see it coming.
I’ll definitely be looking for more books by this author.

This is an excellent continuation of the Abigail Morton series (Book 3). It is another well written, detailed crime thriller. These books are a steady read with the twists coming slowly and cleverly rather than a full on action novel.
In this book Abigail is on the tail of a dark antagonist who just keeps be step ahead.

You can feel the tension just in the blurb and the book is full of suspense and tension, I loved how things developed through the book and it’s so cleverly written with how even comes together.
I cannot rate this read any higher it really is excellent, a hard hitting crime thriller. A must read
