The Pause Praxis: Building Capacity Through Everyday Magic

Rate this book
The Pause Praxis reveals how a simple, embedded daily practice can transform our lives without adding one more thing to our to-do list. For the neurospicy, queer folx, radicals, witches, and anyone dedicated to becoming themselves, these embodied practices root internal capacity building in the mundane moments of our waking, sipping coffee, entering a room…

Drawing on queer embodiment, neurodiversity, animist wisdom, somatics, and trauma-informed practice, this book invites you to experience your life as a living, responsive companion—full of rhythms, sensations, and spirit. The Pause Praxis offers a gentle yet revolutionary reminder that how we move through the world is a choice we make, directed by attention, nourished through intention, and materialized through action.

Capacity to stay present.

Capacity to self-regulate.

Capacity to choose.

Capacity to feel.

Capacity to connect.

Capacity to engage in change work.

Capacity to experience joy.

This book guides you to embrace your intuition, strengthen your somatic capacity, and lean into your own becoming, one small pause at a time.

Come home to yourself. Your magic is already here.

Don’t confuse this book with just another mindfulness resource! Rather than a prescriptive “how to,” it offers a bridge to the reader’s natural rhythm. The Praxis provides gentle guidance to connect to the self, plus an accessible framework that walks alongside the reader’s ordinary day. Instead of a checkbox on the to-do list, this approach allows practice, self-care, and true wellness to be woven into the everyday. And therein lies the magic.

Praxis feels right-on-time.

In a world that is increasingly loud, fast, and disembodied, Praxis offers something quietly radical: an invitation to pause, to listen, to return to ourselves—and to keep returning without judgment.

This is a deeply thoughtful, grounding, and sincere book, written with the intimacy of a conversation with a close friend who genuinely wants to support you rather than fix you.

What feels most powerful is the emphasis on practice over perfection. Praxis doesn't ask us to optimize ourselves, perform our wellness, or finally get everything “right.” Instead, it invites us into small, repeatable acts of awareness and care. The idea that we can return again and again, wherever we are, creates both a sense of safety and a sense of possibility.

The practices are small enough to actually live with, but meaningful enough to gradually change the way we move through the world. There is something reassuring about the way it makes space for our own inner knowing—for the possibility that we don't need someone else to tell us who to be, but may only need support learning to hear ourselves again.

Praxis feels like an offering—a different way of imagining how we might live together in an overwhelming and often sharp-edged world. It is a quiet rebellion against urgency, disconnection, and the constant pressure to become something other than who we are.

That feels especially important right now.

The Pause Praxis is a gentle and thoughtful book about learning to come back to yourself in everyday moments. Instead of asking readers to add another task to their busy lives, the book shows that change can begin with small pauses that are already part of the day: waking up, drinking coffee, walking into a room, or taking a breath.

One of the book’s biggest strengths is its focus on building inner capacity in a simple and practical way. It talks about the ability to stay present, calm yourself, make choices, feel emotions, connect with others, work for change, and experience joy. These ideas are not treated as distant goals. They are shown as skills people can build through attention, intention, and action.

The Pause Praxis does not push readers to change through strict rules or pressure. Instead, it gently invites them to listen to their bodies, trust their intuition, and see life as something they can respond to with care and awareness.

Overall, The Pause Praxis seems like a caring and meaningful book for readers who want to feel more connected to themselves and the world around them. It may be especially helpful for people interested in body-based practices, self-discovery, healing, and small daily rituals. Its message is simple: coming home to yourself does not require a big life change. Sometimes, it starts with one small pause.

The Pause Praxis is practical and accessible and often stunningly beautiful. Tessa’s brilliance and her fiercely loving nature shine through on every page, and every practice she offers is easily attainable. Rather than adding stress to the day, these practices actually alleviate stress and enable me to feel more grounded and centered as I move through my day. They have also helped me feel more connected to myself and my own loving heart, and that is an incredible gift.
