3.5 I actually liked this one. The conversation between characters seems legit and not AI sounding. The reactions seem accurate. There are a few plot holes, but nothing that ruins the book.
No cheating
Possible spoilers ahead
The hero and heroine have been married 4 years. They’re happy and in love. For the past few months, things have been strained. We never find out why it’s been strained. I would assume it’s because they want a baby and are having a hard time getting pregnant.
Heroine finds out she’s pregnant. She texts her hero a few times but he never replies. She arrives home and there is a big party happening. Her key doesn’t work in the door. She looks through the window and sees the hero on his knees- putting the family ring on OW’s finger. She leaves. (Now I don’t understand why she didn’t beat on the door or basically anything to gain access to her house)
Okay, so a little backstory. The hero’s mom. 🥴 She’s a nasty POS. She’s always up in her son’s business. She hates the heroine and she believes the hero should be with OW. She treats the heroine terrible. The hero just acts like a lump and ignores his mom. The hero tells the heroine to just ignore her too. “SIR, stand up and tell your mom to fk off”
Anyway, mom set all this up. She had the locks changed and had it all planned for the heroine to see the hero on his knees in front of the OW. Mom deleted the messages off his phone. 🤷♀️
This hero was NOT proposing to OW. His mom “dropped” the ring box and he picked it up. Whatever. Mom had promised this family heirloom ring to OW.
The heroine moves out. She owns a catering business and the nasty mom starts to interfere with her customers.
Most of the heroine’s employees quit except 17 yr old, Danny. He was a great character and friend to the heroine.
OW also starts messy drama. I did laugh when the heroine straight-up told her “you can have my sloppy seconds, bitxh” 😂😂😂 FINALLY! It’s nice to read a heroine actually saying something to the OW instead of suffering in silence.
The hero spends about 1/2 the book being derp. Seriously, he’s so confused about what’s going on. 🤪 He has to go back and watch the security videos. This man has been making excuses for his mom for way too long.
There is an OM, Eli. It doesn’t amount to anything because he’s only friends with the heroine. He does make the hero jealous.
Unlike other grovel books, this hero doesn’t just slink away and wait on the heroine. NO. He is apologetic and he works hard to win her forgiveness. He won’t let her ignore him. He’s there for her. This book was surprisingly SPICY. I was not expecting all the “hate” smex they would have. lol I guess if you can’t apologize enough with words, then smex is the next option.
The final groveling act- the hero tells the whole town how his mom is a scheming witch. He tells everything so all the gossip is now cleared up. I guess now the town feels ashamed for how they treated the heroine.
We get the MCs whole labor event. I did laugh and it was super sweet. This hero really was a great guy. The heroine was very likable, too.
We are told the witchy mom was basically thrown out of town. OW, too. I think it’s like 8 months later, and the MCs are doing great with their kid. The heroine’s sidekick, Danny, is still with the heroine and he’s training to become more. Good!

I only have a few small issues with this book. The whole event of locking the heroine out of the house made no sense. Why didn’t she bang on the door? I’m sure fancy houses have a doorbell. Why not ring it? If a few days later she was able to get into the house with the spare hidden key, why didn’t she use it that night?
Also, what happened to the hero’s job? I know he gave up his CEO seat and everything else that tied him to his mom, but what’s he’s doing for work now?
Finally, the biggest UGH. Why was the hero pulling away from the heroine a few months before the “locked door” event? Unless I missed it, this really needed to be explained more. It was mentioned so much in the first few chapters, that I was waiting for the answer.
I doubt I would read this again, but it was a decent book. It was much better than earlier books by this author. I didn’t skip or skim, so it was able to keep my attention. The characters were likable and the dialogue was believable.

This book was not too terrible. There are some major plot holes in there, though, and parts of the groveling was just... weak. My biggest issue is the false title, though.
I absolutely hate it when the. Book blurb is just blatantly wrong. It is one of my peeves with a book, for sure. I have to admit, though, that I haven't come across an actual title that was just flat out misleading on purpose. This fact alone has lost a star from my rating.
1. Husband didn't lock her out. MIL did.
2. She wasn't his ex. She was paid for that.
The biggest plot hole I found was, supposedly she is banging on the window to get his attention. Why didn't he hear anything? Not to mention, just ring the damn doorbell. That would have saved everything.
I got so annoyed with Dustin. He was just so spineless at the beginning and it took nearly to the end of the book for him to grow a pair and stand up to his mom. He was still defending his mother to his wife even after everything she did to stage that scene. He kept repeating the same thi as to her through the book, like it matters, when he didn't actually go after his mom at all for anything.
I will up my rating if the title is changed to something that is not a lie.

Dustin - family money. He’s been distant for 6 months.
Sophia - caterer
Sophia finds she’s pregnant. She takes the first ferry to the island house. Her key doesn’t work. She sees her husband kneeling in front of family friend Victoria with a ring. It’s his Grandmother’s ring that mother told Sophia it’s been in the jewelry shop for years.
She only trusts what she saw. Dustin can’t convince her she’s wrong. Victoria rubs it in her face every chance she gets. MIL isn’t contrite about setting up that scene at all. It’s time Dustin marries Victoria.
Fourteen months ago Dustin didn’t realize he signed the ring over to Victoria. She truly believes she will win Dustin.
Dustin earns her trust back and tells the whole story of what his mother and Victoria did in the town square. People turn on them.

MIL sets up a plan to ambush Sophia. Works like a charm and her husband is clueless as to what's going on.
My question: how can Dustin be a billionaire running a business but dumb as a box of rocks.
Who signs something important without a clue what they signed?
As for the year of neglect, it didn't add up.
Also I wanted Sophia to be a pettt bitch and over charge everyone of her customers that canceled on her until the truth came out and they all acted innocent and pretended that nothing had happened.

Pretty good
Dustin has been letting his mother rule over his life and marriage. She doesn't think Sophia is good enough for hi as she is only a caterer. Victoria has been trying to get in with Dustin for a couple years with his mother egging her on! Sophia finds out she's expecting a baby comes to tell Dustin and his mother locks her out. She makes it look Luke he is in with Victoria so Sophia leaves him. He is devastated. Tries everything to get her back. A entertaining read.

I have a feeling that it could’ve been a really great story, but unfortunately, there were several plot holes in this book. One of those being she was nine weeks pregnant and then the next thing we know a few pages later she’s eight months pregnant and ready to give birth. I don’t know what happened to their marriage in that timeline but something did because she was still angry and not willing to forgive him very easily. I gave the Story three stars because there were sections of it that were pretty good and fairly well written.
