Thirst

Rate this book
He's been alive for over a century and a half. She's been surviving her whole life. Neither of them expected what happens when their worlds collide.

Amari Goddard owns the most exclusive casino in Philadelphia, moves only at night, and keeps the world at a careful distance. He has everything—except the one thing a vampire needs most. Aaliyah Carter is a gifted artist working the pole at Fantasies on Fourth, one rent increase away from losing everything she has. When Amari walks into her club and can't look away, neither of them is prepared for the force of what ignites between them.
But Amari is hiding something that would change everything Aaliyah thinks she knows about the world—and about him. And the closer she gets, the more she realizes that the most dangerous thing in her life isn't the men at the club, or the boss who takes half her money, or even the secrets Amari is keeping. It's the way she's starting to feel about all of it.
Dark, sensual, and set against the electric nightlife of Philadelphia, Thirst is a story about hunger in all its forms—for blood, for freedom, for someone who finally sees you clearly.

Some hungers can't be ignored.

I love the concept but something felt missing. Idk if I needed more action or grittiness but I just needed a bit more. Romance between Amari and Aaliyah was written well. I just wanted Amari to be more ruthless , manipulative and cunning I mean your a Vampire… the use of influence was giving characters too many chances in my eyes.

Outstanding!

What can I say other than I loved it?! The way this story slowly burned and made me want to keep reading should be studied. I thought Mr Greer would take us fast but he definitely made us get to know Amari and his baby girl, Aaliyah. What started off as a Vampire floating through life with his own agenda, quickly turned into him wanting to knock down everything in sight to be with his Companion. I enjoyed the story arc and how this story ended. I am especially looking forward to book two. Well done!

Thank you to the author and The Author Agency for this ARC. 🧛🏾‍♂️🔥 A new-to-me author, a Black man writing romance, and an indie-published vampire love story? Yes, please. Thirst was such a fun way to kick off October!

Meet Amari … wealthy, successful, BDE and he’s been spinning the block for over a century 🤭. He walks into a strip joint looking for a fix and ends up with a whole lot more than he bargained for.

Then there’s Aaliyah … a gifted artist with goals of her own, trying to keep her money and her dreams intact while working in a world where her no good boss takes half her earnings. She’s an FMC you can’t help but root for! I was toasting right along with her … yes, hunty cheers to seggs, adventure, money, and danger 😅!!! What starts as a little blood 🩸 and a little bread 💴 turns into something deeper. The chemistry is chemistry-ing, things heat up🌶️, and Amari starts wondering if Aaliyah is just a taste … or his companion, his fated mate.

Aaliyah getting swooned in the best way and atp is like “taste me” 😜, but soon realizes this isn’t just blood-play and she has to decide whether she’s ready for everything that comes with Amari.

I LOVED this story! The writing, the plot, the setting, and the side characters were done just right! It’s giving sensual vampire romance, hard-earned freedom, and … I need book two immediately. I’m hype!

Black Vampires😍

This book had so many crazy twists and turns. Amari is so unhinged and love it. He doesn't play about Aaliyah. And oh my gosh! The ending😩...I already know the next one gonna be messy.

1st read by this author, decent book but waayyyy to long. I️ thought the storyline and plot was good but somewhere in the middle it got real repetitive and drawn out - specifically Aaliyah finding out Amari’s truth. Once the cat was out the bag the story picked back up again and I️ was tapped back in. The last 6 chapters + the epilogue were the best chapters overall! Cause not his maker done made an appearance!?!?!? 😱🫣🤯

Where do I begin???? When this comes out, do not hesitate to get it

I devoured this book in 2 days and it only took long because...life

This book gives Player's Club/PValley vibes with a vampire as the MMC. I loved Amari (MMC) in the story and how he played by his own set of rules and did not play about Aaliyah (FMC) once he set his eyes on her. I loved to see Aaliyah's resilience and her growth throughout the story.

The twist at the end has me wanting the next book in the series ASAP!

Thank you WS Greer for bringing this story to the black community and doing it so well. I can't wait to see what you come up with next

Thank you to The Author Agency for this eARC

First of all… Amari and Aaliyah were CUTE! 🥹❤️ I really enjoyed their characters and could understand both of their perspectives. I felt for Amari being alone for so long and wanting that connection, wanting his companion and someone to share his life with. And Aaliyah? Whew 😭 she was just trying to survive, change her circumstances, and create a better life for herself… and baby, she asked for a life change and she DEFINITELY received one! 😂🧛🏿‍♀️

Amari was GONE from the moment he saw her on that pole though. 🤣 Sir, you were not even trying to fight it!

While I really enjoyed the story, I think the reason I couldn’t quite give it 5 stars is because I found myself wanting a little more character development and depth in the story. With a fated-love setup, I wanted to FEEL the connection between Amari and Aaliyah a little more. More yearning, more of their emotions, and more of that I cannot live without you energy. At times, I felt like Aaliyah didn’t quite feel as strongly about Amari, and I just wanted more of their relationship developing on the page.

I also would’ve loved more of Aaliyah and Janae’s friendship. We could tell something was going on there, especially when she went to see her, but I wanted to actually experience that friendship and understand their bond a little more.

For me, the pacing felt like there was plenty of room to slow down and give us more of those little details and emotional moments. I just wanted a little more of the FEELS! 😭😂

And can we talk about Devon and Stanley? 👀 Count. Your. Days. 😂

Also… Aaliyah having a whole VAMPIRE companion and still walking into a room ALONE with a creep?! 😭 I understand the situation, but ma’am!!! And Amari… why are we letting our companion go places by herself?! Sir?! 😂

Overall, though, this was a GOOD READ! I really liked the characters, enjoyed the story, and I was definitely entertained. I just wanted a little more depth and a stronger emotional connection to make it that 5-star read for me.

Thank you to the author/author team for the ARC! 🩸🖤

📚 I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! Because this story is far from over, and I’m ready for the next chapter! 🖤

Amari is a lonely vampire on a mission for vengeance, never expecting love to find him along the way. Then comes Aaliyah, a stripper struggling to make ends meet and a woman who sometimes puts others before herself. Neither of them could have imagined how much their lives would change once their paths crossed. 🧛🏾‍♂️❤️‍🔥

As their connection deepens, their worlds are turned upside down. Just when they begin navigating life together after tragedy, the past comes back to haunt them in the form of the one person who could destroy everything—Amari’s maker! 😳🩸

Whew! Just when you think these two might finally get a chance at happiness, here comes another threat ready to shake things up! The mix of vampire drama, unexpected love, tragedy, and unfinished business has me wanting MORE!

And that ending has me wondering what’s coming next! 👀🔥 Will Amari and Aaliyah get their happily ever after, or will his maker destroy everything they’re trying to build?

4⭐️. I really enjoyed reading about Amari & Aaliyah . . This book had me questioning if I could be with a vampire with a blood kink .

I loved everything about Amari’s smooth-talking ass . One thing for certain he didn’t play about his girl. He was willing to kill anybody that got in her way. Towards the end of the book i was happy he finally started killing niggas . I felt like he was giving people way too many passes . Like dude you’re a vampire show me your Grit. .

I loved the FMC . Stripper at night with dreams of becoming an artist . But hell, she’s making chump change dancing at Fantasies. I hated her boss Von he was such a loser. & shay was a hating ass bitch. I was smiling from ear to ear at their demise.

I enjoyed the romance between Amari & Aaliyah .. i was so happy that Aaliyah finally decided to give them a try . He was everything she needed . . Now that she got that Vamp blood i knew she was going to want to be turned but he’s adamant on not doing it .

The ending tho Now i can’t wait for pt 2 . Cause baby why is Jacinda back & what do she want??

Our MMC has it all, but who wouldn’t after being on Earth for over a century. Yet running a successful gambling club, having money overflowing and unlimited power, starts to feel like it’s not enough. But what if boredom leads him to the one person he never hoped to find…his fated mate.

Our FMC is trying to make ends meet, working at Fantasies, a strip club in Philly where all vices can be fulfilled. But she yearns for more to make a living from her art. If only she could meet a rich, dangerously handsome man to pay her rent and get her spark back.

This is my first book by W.S. Greer, and I loved it! The cover immediately caught my attention, and I’m so glad I gave it a try. This might be my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last.

I tend to be skeptical about dual POVs when they’re written by men (no offense 😅). Usually, the FMC’s POV is shorter and lacks character development, but that definitely wasn’t the case here. I loved being able to read Aaliyah’s POV and really immerse myself in her perspective.

This is absolutely one of my top reads of 2026! I loved every minute.
Amari exudes this confidence/cocky combination that is just delicious. After a long lifetime he finally finds his fated partner in a strip club of all places.
Aaliyah is just trying to make it while life keeps throwing curve balls. But the day Amari walks into the club, the business he was there to take care of gets pushed to the back burner the moment he sees her on the pole.

As someone with a SH-ing past, I could absolutely relate to Aaliyah, and the way Amari didn't judge her or her scars is a thing only some will understand. I love love love them together!

This was absolutely everything I needed and wanted. WS Greer is a phenomenal writer, and this was more than a 5 star read for me!

Thank you so much to the author/author team for this ARC opportunity!!!

Fun Read

I love when a book can piss me off. Aaliyah had the survival instincts of a gnat, and it was frustratingly hilarious to me. Sis got every warning imaginable. Every gut instinct was screaming, “No, they aren’t safe,” and she still kept with it. I honestly don’t know how she survived this story. 😂

Of course, Amari was HIM. Be serious. That man was everything he needed to be. I love that he was morally grey. He tried to be a good fake human, but that’s not him and we love that for him.

The cover of this book is absolutely beautiful. I’ve been highly anticipating this release ever since I saw the announcement, and Part 1 did not disappoint. With that secret finally being uncovered, I’m very interested to see where Part 2 goes.

My only hope is that Aaliyah grows a little backbone because she was doing way too much crying for me. 😩

*ARC Review* this book was comical; it’s a paranormal
Romance. It follows Amari Goddard a vampire who’s over a 150 years old & Aaliyah Carter who’s 25. However their paths crossed by fate. He’s given up on finding his companion since he was turned and she’s trying to survive life while pursuing her dream to become an artist. However there are outside forces constantly trying to sabotage their destiny to get what they want; whether that’s love , money , adventure and danger. There are spicy scenes in here; however I think there should have been more. You have lies, betrayal, unwanted attention, possible S.A. Murder, suggested influence. Definitely check it out; you will be cackling a lot.

I loved this book from the very first sentence!! I loved thet a Southern was a Vampire King and owned his own casino, thet was sooo cool!!! I loved his swag, his charm, I loved everything about him!!! Aylayiah has had a rough go of things ajd then she had a horrible boss taking half of her earnings. That pissed me off lol I loved the chemistry, their connection and the slow burn. I thought the writing was perfect, I loved the characters, and I feel there was a little throw back to Y&R character (Devon Hamilton lol) loved that!!! This is absolutely perfect for spooky season and I highly recommend

Now why am I sitting here thinking, damn, I’ve never had ceiling sex. 🗣️PICK ME UP, FLOAT ME, VAMPIRE ME, PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

WS Greer, you got me out here rethinking my entire romantic history! Apparently I’ve been missing out on some supernatural perks.

But beyond the thirst (pun absolutely intended), I enjoyed the mix of dark romance, vampire secrets and Aaliyah trying to survive while Amari introduces her to a world she never knew existed. Amari sir you have officially raised the bar to an unreasonable supernatural height. Thirst was my introduction to this author and I have zero complaints.

This was a great story! I was unable to put the book down. The MMC is a vampire, who owns a casino and tries to keep a low profile. His best friend/assistant is a true friend that has his back and keeps him from making careless mistakes, like killing people. The FMC is a young lady trying to make a living as best as she can. Unfortunately, it’s stripping. However her passion is painting. She was a little annoying with how naive she can be. And a little dramatic. The author did a great job with telling the story. The cliffhanger was cool. Looking forward to seeing how the story plays out. I highly recommend reading this book!

I see red 🩸

WS Greer snapped with this one. This is about more than thirst! It’s soul’s mating. It’s about a man who doesn’t just hunger for his soulmate but has the patience to become everything she needs and deserves. He knows who she is to him, but he doesn’t force her to accept him or their fate.

I loved that she not only took the time to understand the man behind the vampire, but made the choice for herself on her terms giving her heart time to recognize what the soul already knows.

I enjoyed this story and it made me think, would I willingly embrace eternity for love!

That ending…babaaaaaaay, I’m ready now…bring her to the page…

As an avid vampire lover this book gave me everything I was looking for! The characters gave me what I was looking and it was written in a way that had me picturing it so vividly in my mind I still have the mental images in my head. I hope there's more to this story because I need more. I think this may be one of my favorite vampire books so far. And the way the the artwork is for this book and the way it's described I would want to actually have this in my house. I'm happy I received an arc copy but I need a physical copy as well!

I liked it!

I wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out but I knew I was going to read it! 😆 WS Greer is my fave black male author! I enjoyed the portrayal of Amari! I loved that he was who he was unapologetically… I’m so glad the turn about came with Aaliyah, cuz she was getting on my nerves being a push over and just letting things happen to her. I can’t say I’m excited about the next one but that’s just me not liking villainous people coming in and messing up what’s good 😆

Loved this book from beginning to end. Love story was everything I didn’t know I needed and some extra toppings for good measure! The storyline of an 160 year old black vampire and a companion he never seen coming will have you biting your nails Paige after Paige. Love how the story is told from the MMC and FMC point of views giving you both perspectives simultaneously, chef’s kiss. Five stars all around if you didn’t know now you do🔥🔥 For this to be my first read by W.S. Greer I devoured it and I’m ready to dive into his catalog… on to the next!

Must Read 🌶️🔥🤤

I really liked this book, and couldn't put it down. I finished it in two days. I'm definitely waiting for book 2! Amari made me reconsider my humanity status 🔥 a smooth vamp brother. Aaliyah made me mad & proud at the same time. Like girl...snap out of it and let's get this done. Stop being so scary... especially with Amari in your corner...or shadow 😏. Must read! Side note....Shawn can get it too 🫠

Part 2 please

This book captivated me from the beginning; read it in 2 days. Excellent writer. I hope there's a part 2 in the future. I love black paranormal romance books and this author did a good job.
The only critique is the language used by Aaliyah should have been believable. Not saying she's not smart, but I expected her to use VERY simple language considering her environment, her age, her naivety, and her poor decision making skills.

I live for a good vampire story. And this did not disappoint. I loved Amari and Aliyah in this. I loved the atmosphere and how it pulls you in and keeps your interest. Both characters were so well developed and felt realistic. This is dark and delicious. Engaging with the suspense and perfect balance of steam. I can’t wait to read the next book.,
