The high school girl Manami who had fallen down the emergency stairs at school had, before she noticed, become a three year old in the world of an Otome Game. What’s more, that little girl was one of the rival characters that appeared in the game; the can’t-take-a-hint-burikko-type-rival daughter of a marquis family. What awaited her at the end was social obliteration.

Though she did get a bad feeling about this… Caimi decided not to worry!

It was a dream after all, so that had nothing to do with her. For now, she’s going to master magic! Hooray!

I don't like it. The characters don't have charisma and Camille does not have a huge impact on any characters. I'm actually finding it pretty boring.

Read the translations by Oniichanyamamete (on their Wordpress blog - thank you very very much!!). I really enjoyed the story thus far (it appears the translations have only recently been done/posted this year!! Amazing!). Usually, a lot of light novels I've read has the protagonist fall into another fantasy/game world (cough NGNL, SAO... Etc) and take on the role of "hero". This story is very refreshing; normal girl falls into an OTOME game and finds herself in the life of one of the antagonist/rival girls. It's such a twist, and as an otome-gamer myself I really appreciate this kind of story haha. And like, the novel was tagged "strong female lead" for a reason - unlike the manga I've read where bishoujo falls into another world and has the main love interest save her butt all the time, Aizawa/Camille masters magic (because she always wanted too lol the Harry Potter references are too funny) plus she can take care of herself... Though it's because of that she's very reckless. And while being her clueless air headed self, she lands herself a great guy who wasn't originally considered a love interest in the original otome game. Honestly speaking, I think the only reason the commoner Heroine can only pursue a friendship route with Achille is because he's ambitious and has always been thinking of marrying into position for power. Like, there's a lot of things unsaid, but enough hints for anyone to catch on to what's behind the scenes. I think it's cute Camille became his "heel" haha (please no death flag!).

Anyways, I really appreciate the otome elements - the battle, monster-fighting, etc and the ROMANCE. For Camille she unwillingly went down the route of childhood sweetheart who's held-back for so long, plus Achille is such a haraguro, has a sadistic side, very capable, a prodigy in all fields and is an ikeman to boot - he's such a perfect otome male love interest I can't even XD. Sometimes his overprotective, possessive, jealous boyfriend/husbando mode is overbearing and excessive, but in an otome-gamer perspective he's too sweet my heart can't take it and I end up squealing all over the place. Aw geez I sound like a raving fangirl over her bias ; well actually I've been rooting Achille-Camille from the start, and the translator's ship jokes killed me ahaha. Some people joke he's the yandere lover, but I find Royce-sama to be the yandere. Well, with Camille's influence, Royce and Achille became fast allies then best friends - probably more so than the game, and Achille's schemingness rubbed off big time on the prince. Besides, there was a lot of foreshadowing and comments that "his personality [was] headed in a bad direction" lol. Then it's revealed he's more suited as a secret-intelligence/ninja prince, who's all sparkly as a farce, and when he spotted Beatrix his stalkerish tendencies became pronounced. It's quite hilarious, plus he uses his connections to arrange a marriage she can't really escape from. Obviously I love the childhood trio, and I like how far they came, and how different the world is due to Camille's influence, but she isn't the only girl who bodyswapped into the game and changed the fate of the world...

So I'll leave it at that, sorry my review was mostly me gushing over it ahaha. To you who patiently read my raving, give it a whirl! I spent an all-nighter reading, and I appreciated it from being an otome gamer myself, though I think fanfiction and fantasy-gamers would like it too?

Volume One sets up this isekai/otome game adventure. Our main character (Aizawa) is pushed down the stairs by a group of girls angry about male interest. The scenario is a familar trope in confrontation game sequences so it is perhaps not that extreme that when our lead transmigrates into the body of young Camille Rhodolite she treats it as a dream. She finds herself in the world of "Carte a Jouer" where a commoner maiden can pursue the young master of one of the four factions. While that is all pretty standard I will say on execution it is a bit needlessly complicated. The Japanese ideals and culture are presented. The four houses are card suits but through french nomenclature. The factions are not all the same family lines. Jacks or simply J's are assistant roles to the kings (young masters) but the Queens are the rivals for each capture target. Sometimes characters are referred to by their name or position within the world, sometimes the label from the game, sometimes by nicknames, sometimes by general terms like ikeman. Underneath all the packaging is rather direct and simple, but readers can get lost in the weeds as they adjust to the style elements.
At any rate, Camille is the Queen of Hearts in game and destined to be villified for meddling if Prince Royce is pursued. She cannot seem to stop all game events and meetings, but Camille is doing her best to pursue an alternative path and avoid death flags. In this version, she focuses on magical power, promises to defend Royce rather than love him, and tries to befriend Achille--the aide that ruined game Camille cannonically. The chapters alternate POVs which means that the overall story progresses slowly despite the time jumps to age up our characters from 3 to 16. However, it is nice to get to know the personality and plans of different players. It's hard to get a baseline for what is "normal" given our extreme FL so details about how family lineages work, the gender dynamics, and political variables tend to come out in oblique manners. Magical lessons, an violent ambush on Royce, and teen engagements are the highlights for these chapters.

Vol 4 [Camille discovers the Queen of Clovers working as a maid and given rumors she worries the Revolutionary ending has been triggered. As everyone returns to the Magic Academy, the OG heroine Frau Monier confronts Achille with the truth about Camille’s origin and shows him one game route trying to discredit her. Camille admits to her life before coming here. Royce works to get engaged with Beatrix (Q of Diamonds) and decides it is time to leave school and fight for his country.] Vol 5 [The empire’s forces failed to capture Frau, however, they recapture some villages being held by the extremists. The battle almost cost Camille her life and Achille decides to force the issue of marriage. Camille agrees and this grants Achille the power of a Marquis and a new living arrangement.] Vol 6 [Beatrix arrives at the castle while Raiga and Royce work to clear out corrupted officials. They work together to form a plan against Frau and the Revolutionist. Beatrix recommends attempting to involve the school headmaster who was a secret character from the game. …

This is a lighthearted genre entry that utilizes and subverts tropes and cliches. The included romance relationship is not exactly something I’d term healthy but in the fantasy/game world it passes. I wish Camille was a bit more proactive, but she was only a teen when she transmigrated so some of her immaturity is expected. The arcs are a moderate size and beyond the setup volume the pace is rather slow.
