i'm sitting here, less than 12 hours from when I finished that book, wondering when Sara will grace us with the next book. She's a fan of trilogy's, so I'm sure we'll be given another cliffhanger in the next book. But the cliffhanger in this one... well it left me unwell. I AM UNWELL. I don't know who to trust... definitely not Sara, that's for dang sure. S. Massery has usually stuck with contemporary dark romance or hockey romance, so this was a bit of a surprise when she announced it. That being said, she did a great job with Paranormal -as if there was any question - and just in time for witchy season.
This book starts us off in a forest where two witches are being hunted by demons and wolves. It was a stressful beginning. In this world witches have cursed wolves -- and well, they aren't really fans of each other. They've held a century long grudge against each other - when the offending half isn't even clear as to why they're hated so. And well, demons are demons... no one likes them. There are many antagonists in this story. The demons, the vampires, the Mountain Creek Pack, witches, wolves, Kian... A lot of people have their moment, heck, even Astra does there for a minute. There really hasn't been a true neutral in this book. Well, maybe the humans, because they don't know any better - but they seem to be kind of rude about the other-ness the magical peoples display. Again, Sara makes me not trust anyone in this story. i HAVE TRUST ISSUES SARA!
What can I tell you about this... well it was an interesting premise. There is a curse and demons are after Astra - her mom sent her to find a mysterious he who would help her if she helped him. Presumably, that's Kian? But who knows, her mom doesn't really give her good instructions. She really just sewed chaos. But Astra is taken by the wolves and the pack leader decides to use Astra to break a curse. Oh and he's her fated mate... but he doesn't want her, because of the small fact that she's not a wolf. WE CAN'T ALL BE PERFECT KIAN. DAMN. She doesn't want him anyway, she's got more important things to worry about... like her unhelpful mom and being hunted by demons. So they go on a road trip - because #ForcedProximity - to find someone to help them. Obviously, they never get there, because this is the odyssey, things can't be easy and we really like side quests. Oh and this book ends on a heck of cliffhanger which reminds us that no one can be trusted. There is only one p to v scene, but there are a few oral adventures. Because again, he's trying to reject the bond. He says it's for the best, because you know, men know what's best. I took away .25 because of that lack of trust. This book stressed me out and kept me engaged. I finished it in like a day. I loved it. i can't wait for the next book, SO GET ON THAT SARA, pretty please.

It is no secret that I love a good old fashioned rejected mates, especially if it’s deliciously angsty!
This book is all that and more. Right from the start we’re thrown into a world of shifters and witches, and the pace does not let up. Every ‘ally’ is suspect, even our main characters, both with their own agendas and secrets they refuse to give up. Every path to an answer leads to more questions and I am dying to find out more!
Astra and Kian have an electric connection despite wanting to either kill each other or get as far away as humanly possible, yet both forced to rely on the other (and can I say, I truly love the way Kian’s wolf is 1000% on board right from the start) enemies to (reluctant??) lovers done right!
Of course, this is only the beginning. That cliffy broke my heart a little, I felt so bad for poor Astra!!
Can’t wait for the next book!

idk why but as sara's first fantasy (at least that i've seen) i was pleasantly surprised with how much i enjoyed this one!! i can't wait to see how much it progresses from here!!
