If there's one thing preschoolers and kindergarteners love, its detailed cartoon board books with flaps that show what's going on behind the scenes.  See Inside Ancient Egypt is a beautifully illustrated book that shows you all of the happenings at an ancient Egyptian market, temple, villa, pyramid and burial tomb, among others.  The book was particularly helpful in helping our little ones imagine how these structures and events might have looked before they turned to ruins or faded into history, complete with decorations, customs, ceremonies, modes of transport, typical clothing and local populations. Our 18 month old even enjoyed perusing the illustrations and opening and closing the many flaps.

Woohoo, this book REALLY helped. We’re learning all about Egypt at school, and this book teaches you loads of great facts. Did you know, the Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest pyramid in the world? (Here comes the disgusting one!) Did you know that when Egyptian kings die, workers take out their lungs, liver, intestines, and their stomach is removed. Then the (this is sooooo disgusting I don’t even think u should read it unless ur super brave!!!) brain is pushed out using a hook pushed up through the nose. Eww! Double eww!
And did you know that rich Egyptian women wear cones of perfumed wax on their heads to cool them when they melt?

Really interesting to see inside the life of Ancient Egypt. Definitely gives perspective to the History of Ancient Egypt. I think this book should be read with the Inside pyramid book to get a more complete picture of life in Ancient Egypt.
