A full Tokyo travel experience for those wanting to discover its vibrant, creative underbelly
It's clear to see why Tokyo is a source of fascination for young travelers. Streets of towering neon that never sleep hide warren-like alleys filled with lanterns, vending machines, and tiny bars where businessmen drink the latest seasonal beers. Tokyo is a collection of districts, each with its own personality and its own style tribes. Unlike other guidebooks, Tokyo Precincts shows you the city from the perspective of the local creatives who live and work there, allowing you an instant entry into the most happening spots in town.
I was so excite to buy this hardcover book in the Daikanyama Tsutaya in Tokyo. It looked like a beautiful book with great little places to visit. The second day of owning I ventured out on my bike to find three of the locations mentioned. I was so disappointed to only find one still in business. I would understand if it was an old book, but this one was just published. Not only did I waste my money but my time. Also the binding is already falling apart and I have only a few times. Really poorly made. Such a disappointment. Great concept and great photography, but contents poor. Will be trying to take back tomorrow....hope to get a refund.
No idea if places still exist as I imagine Tokyo to be a chameleon. My rating reflects points on style. This book is stylish and cute. Reading over shops and interviews, the city seems to be teeming with unique, creative artisans. I am enthused about Tokyo.
Beautifully designed and laid out, but I was disappointed to find a number of places marked as permanently closed on Google. it looks like a new edition of the book may be due.
