Rip Tyde

Rate this book
Legend has long spoken of the prehistoric monsters that silently glide through the waters surrounding Long Island in the Bahamas. Locals know that some areas are better left unexplored - Dean's Blue Hole being one of them.

Blue holes are found throughout the world and the number is growing. These expansive underwater caves call to divers, but remain largely unexplored.

Cursed with a strange name and dying marriage, Tyde Gregory, plans a last ditch effort to save his relationship. Diving at Dean's Blue Hole on Long Island seems to be the only thing Tyde and his wife, Wendy, can agree upon. As hope turns to horror, Tyde realizes that there are things far worse than a broken marriage.

I found this book at the end of another ebook. I love when they give you just enough of a story to go and buy it- this one cost me $2.99.

The blurb:

This blurb does nothing for the book. When I followed the animation of my iPad's digital page and found the first three chapters of H. E. Goodie's novel, I immediately hit Amazon.com and purchased RIP Tyde! I needed to read the rest, especially since I'd been seeking something different- having grown weary of zombies, vampires and werewolves. RIP Tyde: A Deep Sea Thriller was exactly what I was looking for, right... ?
It was. For a the briefest of moments, I was disappointed with the story. Not because it wasn't interesting but because there were many areas where the author was on a writing spree and left words out here and there. Or he added too many and the sentence caused me a mental hiccup, making it necessary to go back and reread the sentence. Was it a disruption: Yes, but did it damage the story? Not in the least. This story about 60% of the way in is like an all-out MONSTERFEST! I loved it- from the lusca to the swimming dinosaur, to monstrous crabs ripping people in half - what a fantastic read!

RIP Tyde's not excellent executed, but it's a good read. The story is fun and you can't be anything but entertained. There's another book this story refers back to that I'm going to pick up later, called Tidal Grave, but it didn't receive rave or even really good reviews. That's never stopped me before though, Ha Ha! (in my best Errol Flynn voice) On to the next book!

Tyde Gregory sets out to save his marriage by taking wife Wendy on a diving vacation in the Bahamas. Little does Tyde know that the island he's chosen sits in a sea stuffed with hungry aquatic monsters, eager for the taste of human blood. A sinister scientist, a dynamic U.S. government agent, and quarreling local brothers all pursue different agendas as deep sea horrors finally amass and attack the island.

This read like a first draft rushed to eBook. The characters were thin, the dialogue repetitive, and the main character, Tyde, is often no more than a spectator in a book that bares his name. Still, there is no lack of action as the plot races forward, one gory death after another.

Unless you're a fan of monsters eating people up, give this one a pass.

I'm a fan of creature features. This most certainly didn't disappoint. There was a well told story mixed with the right amount of carnage one comes to expect from the guys at Severed Press. Goodhue really came through with characters you actually wanted to survive and escape the hell they have to face. If you haven't read Tidal Grave yet, do so first before you take a spin through RIP Tyde.

This was a good book that provided me with several hours of enjoyable reading. The setting is a good one too. I do suggest before reading the first pages, to print out a photo of Dean's Hole in the Bahamas.

There's a good story in the book. At least, there's potential for a good story in the book.

Unfortunately the book suffers majorly from lack of a good editor. Spelling errors, continuity errors, and grammar errors are filled throughout the entire book.

The characters are all one dimensional, and you're never really given a reason to care about the fate of any of them.

I'd love to see the book rewritten, the characters fleshed out, proper editing done, and a good ending tacked on. Right now it just feels abrupt. Not so much a cliffhanger, just that it ended.

If you're looking for a book that features kaiju, this is the book for you. If you're looking for a book with a story and compelling characters, look elsewhere.

Really liked it. Read it in 24 hrs! Great creatures, lots of action with good characters. Great beach read! Unless, of course, you want to go in the water!

Pretty bad. Lot of words left out of sentences. Probably not a lot of proof reading done. The last half was more interesting than the first half, but not great, and really not a thriller.
